We'll go anywhere in search of things that smell great, and then we discuss them here. Feel free to join us.

I have a new - male - member of my team who started this week. He smelled absolutely delicious, and I had to restrain myself from licking him and making small growly noises. It was Chanel Bleu. Maybe I'll get DH some of that too.

MrsMacNally · 09/09/2017 09:57

Hey MrsS!

Sorry to hear about the aesthetics fail round yours. I thought it was fabulous (totatlly f^^ fabulous to be topical Grin). Hope you're going to wear it instead?

You weren't involved in that tube lick incident upthread? Hmm

Definitely buy your DH some chanel Blue MrsS, it is bad form to lick strange men. Once DH realises you are willing to lick men who smell delicious he should soften his stance on See You Next Tuesday.

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 09/09/2017 10:10

Oh Pest I'm torn now... I like the surprise of an advent calendar and not knowing what you're going to get each day, but making your own means being less likely to be disappointed, and it's a good excuse to stock up on samples! Decisions decisions...

Green £68 for the samples is very promising. Going to cross fingers...

MrsM I don't find the tobacco in Rome 1963 too strong- just a comforting hint. Maybe the faint whiff you get sat in a piazza outside some chic Italian cafe while you sip your coffee and people watch...

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 09/09/2017 10:33

Someone missed this page when I posted. MrsS that's hilarious... not sure whether to be disappointed or relieved nobody at work has ever smelt good enough to lick!

Pestilentialone · 09/09/2017 10:49

Found the Rome. It starts off sharp with bergamot plus a hint of white flowers and pencil shaving cedar. Then the patchouli creeps in, light on tobacco and gets creamier. Expecting the tuberose to punch it's way to the forefront later.

Pestilentialone · 09/09/2017 11:03

Kate free samples are quite hard to get. Department stores have some. Last time I chatted to the Guerlain lady she only had Mon Guerlain (pink minger) and Petite Robe Noir (good on DD). If you are feeling confident chat up the staff and just ask. Test one on each wrist and one on each elbow and wait to see how it changes.

Look up the perfumes you like on Fragrantica so you have an idea of the type of thing you like. Then use the search by basenote function to target similar stuff. Always test a few times before investing in a FB.

Ask friends to try their stuff. When you have an idea of the sort of thing you are after, ask here; loads of us have some samples that are just not our thing.

Bottom line, free samples are quite hard to get hold of / limited even if you are near a department store. Do think about buying a sample first before coughing up big bucks. Some cheap perfumes are also very nice. Be led by your nose not expensive advertising campaigns.

MrsMacNally · 09/09/2017 13:03

See Pest I was thinking along similar lines but was going to suggest it the other way around. MrsS could tell MrS that if he's not going to wear it, she'll consider rehoming it with the nice colleague with good taste? (MrsS - it is of course too gorgeous to ever really consider parting with. I'd be thinking, lucky me! Smile ).

I nearly licked a chap who was standing next to me at the bar last night. He smelled delicious. Probably poor form though, especially as I was old enough to be his mother. Is there a perfume called L'air de lecherous old woman? Grin

MrsMacNally · 09/09/2017 13:14

Did you ask him what it was EK?

OP posts:
explodingkittens · 09/09/2017 13:15

SOTD is Cassis en Feuille. Bright and invigorating for a slightly hungover day Wink

explodingkittens · 09/09/2017 13:15

No, too shy. Just leaned in a bit and sniffed Grin

MrsSchadenfreude · 09/09/2017 13:57

Mrs M - fear not, it's not going anywhere. I'll be wearing it if he's not.

OCSockOrphanage · 09/09/2017 15:35

The unsuspected delights of office life! I can see that licking delightfully perfumed people would be a serious breach of office protocol if not a sackable offence.

Knope2020 · 09/09/2017 15:38

L'air de lecherous old woman
😂😂😂
We've found a gap in the market!!!

Pestilentialone · 09/09/2017 15:45

L'air de lecherous old woman so what does this beauty smell like?

MrsMacNally · 09/09/2017 15:48

That's one for the next 4160's makers workshop. So, what will the notes be?

But we should check to see if Xyrena already have this covered; Cougar, could be a plausible stablemate of Pool Boy and Basic Bitch?

OP posts:
MrsMacNally · 09/09/2017 15:53

Speaking of the workshop, I really regret it all being so rushed at the end - I didn't get time to properly smell everyone else's creations, Green & Pest's in particular. With hindsight it would've been great to have exchanged smelling strips with each other.

Judydreamsofhorses · 09/09/2017 16:18

SOTD is Black Opium. I did a turn round the Debenhams beauty hall after being out for lunch and had a sniff of the Elizabeth Taylors. Not for me,nor the new Calvin Klein Obsession flanker. Off to have a bath and put jamas on in preparation for Strictly/X Factor - love autumn telly.

3DGlasses · 09/09/2017 21:15

SOTD was Al-Haramain Noora. You'll all hate it Grin. It's pitched as an 'Oriental' but it's a straight up fruity laundry detergent. But I love it for lazy days when I don't feel able to carry a proper perfume.

I have had to ask DH to hide my credit card, as I realise I have ordered 6 perfumes in the last month. Its not even funny! I must stop. Very glad I got Bond No.9 Chinatown and Kenzo Amour in before the creddy ban though Grin.

Judydreamsofhorses · 09/09/2017 21:28

Does anyone have MMM By the Fireplace? I have a real hankering for it, but it would be a blind buy (not sure where stocks it in real?) and possibly an expensive mistake. Fabled has 15% off the first order. I did a load of work for SQA over summer so am due quite a big chunk of money next month.

Calmwhoknows · 09/09/2017 21:52

MrsS, shame about "See you Next Tuesday", but I'm sure you will enjoy wearing it.

MrsMac, how daft were we, not to exchange smelling strips! I have been wearing my Viennese Coffee Shop, off and on. It is very strong, though, probably more suitable for winter. I have a bottle of Rome 1963 (well, half a bottle 😨) and it is one of my regular go-to perfumes. On me, it is white flowers and tobacco. The tuberose is not strong and the tobacco is very fragrant, not at all ashy. There is something very distinctive about it. I went onto Fragrantica to check the notes and had a eureka moment when I read that one of the reviewers thought it smelt like old hymn books. That's definitely it - not musty hymn books, but old ones that have been stored in a high church that uses incense, even though there's no incense in the notes. Bonkers I know!

MrsMacNally · 09/09/2017 22:03

Thanks Calm, Cheap & Pest. Think I'll give it a whirl (9ml) and may also buy another for a cedar & white flowers-fiend friend. I know it is very personal, but where I can risk it, I do like giving perfume as a present. Especially enjoy giving a bottle to DD every Christmas (she chooses!).

Explodingkittens, love the idea of L'Air de Lecherous Old Woman! 😋 I'm pleased you enjoyed Cassis en Feuille. I find it's beautifully long-lasting. TKMaxx had a 100ml bottle for £39.99, locally.

I was delighted to pick up some Womanity (Mugler) from TKMaxx. It's been discontinued I believe. I expect the sweet and salty notes (meant to be caviar!) didn't sell, but I really like it. Mine is a 10ml refillable bottle with a spare refill. I have a dupe of it which I shall enjoy comparing to the real thing.

MrsSchadenfreude · 09/09/2017 22:14

I saw Cassis en Feuille in TK Maxx in Brixton today.

I just made DH sniff my arm where I had sprayed CUNT and he said "Ooh, that's nice!"
