Thoughts?

I know a lot of people think hush is overpriced tat, but this thread is for those of us that still buy the odd thing.

I've had a brief look & like the look of the Christie coat & Cassie dress. Last year I got a dress in the same style of this years clover dress, which I love.

However, the prints this year are awful.

I've ordered the Tara, Cicely and Cassie dresses. I'm an 8-10 and expect them to swamp me. They seem to be for taller people

An update

Tara dress, no, not for me. My tummy sticks out more than my bum and the skirt is just too tight even though I'm an 8-10. I look mutton as lamb.

Cicely dress- all wool- it's like felt. Very cheap feeling wool, just not flattering.

Cassie dress- look like a little girl in it wearing a dress that's too big.

If you are taller, younger and can carry these off, fine but not for me.

SesameSparkle · 20/08/2017 13:35

Thanks swimming.

Everything looks oversized on the new model, as she's wearing a sample size Small, which is far too big for her - and she is very slight. The Tara isn't nearly as long as that in real life. I've last year's Tara in burgundy. For anyone interested I'm a 12 on top, a 10 on the bottom and mine's an S. If I didn't have one already, I'd be very tempted by the green. I don't know if anyone else has had a problem with this, but the only negative I find with the dress in a colour is that it shows up sweat under the arms - I think it's an issue with the modal in the fabric. And I don't normally have this problem with the rest of my wardrobe - honest! Blush

missfliss · 20/08/2017 13:38

swimming you look just wonderful in that dress. I love it on you.
How tall are you please? One of my reservations is that at 5'6" it would trail along the floor. Don't really want to have to get it altered but it really is pretty

rightknockered · 20/08/2017 13:57

Very tempted by that shirt dress now

rightknockered · 20/08/2017 14:03

Has anyone tried the Haywood cropped jacket. It looks lovely

christmasunicorn · 20/08/2017 14:08

I love them look of the shirt dress but cant imagine id wear it much. Maybe if it was knee length which I know a seamstress could do but that's a lot of money for it to not be perfect

chloechloe · 20/08/2017 14:11

I really do not need any more clothes and shouldn't be buying anything as I'm on mat leave. BUT this thread has tempted me to go and have a look!

How do the Tara and Tina dresses work on an hourglass with boobs (DD)? I gave the V neck Tara which works because of the neckline but I'm wondering if the high neck on the current season will be less flattering?

I reckon the Tina will be less flattering than the Tara as there is no ruching but I'm tempted by the burgundy.

Any advice or thoughts? Am not in the U.K. so ordering is a risk due to P&P costs and returns.

chloechloe · 20/08/2017 14:14

swimming that dress looks great on you! Am very tempted by it but am not sure where I would wear it!

Am also tempted by the Pamplona frill skirt but think it may turn up in the sale...

MartinRohdesBellybuttonFluff · 20/08/2017 14:25

chloechloe I am in the exact same boat as you (dd bra, overseas etc).

I have the Tara from last winter and love it. It's loose enough on top (with kind of batwing sleeves) not to look like a severe crew neck.

I wanted burgundy this year and looked at the Tina which, without the ruching, won't be forgiving at all on me so I've given it a miss (ordered the burgundy ruched skirt from Hush and a burgundy tunic/jumper dress from elsewhere to get my fix).

If you do decide to go for the Tina, would you mind reprting back please?

Runningyogabooze · 20/08/2017 17:09

Loving this thread, and thanks for the code on another post Martin.

Planning to order the Tara in black and charcoal - but do you get a VPL in charcoal anyone? - and also the lightening flash t shirt which I tried on in Peter Jones this afternoon.

I also tried on a navy jumper with a white stripe down each side but this isn't on the Hush website yet. Not sure if it's vv new or vv old - suspect the former, but I might have to do without that for now.

And MumBod has got me thinking about the wide top and also that v flattering skirt....

But my basket is nearly two hundred quid already....

Anyway, I just got an email from Me&Em and their new season stuff looks a bit weird so I think I might go for Hush this season instead.

Thanks all!

Swimminguphill · 20/08/2017 18:03

Missfliss I am 5'10" so pretty tall!

Justfivemoreminutesplease · 20/08/2017 19:52

rightknockered when I was in JL yesterday a woman was trying the Haywood on - it looked good but I was put off by the pockets on the front as they look strange and didn't really blend in with the rest of the jacket - they just looked stuck on as an afterthought iyswim. Inspired by swimming I tried on the Brooke cropped jacket but the shoulders were too rounded a shape on me - I had so much to try on, I didn't want to go out and get a smaller size to try,but might do next time.
Encouraging, the Leeds JL has now got a much bigger area for Hush and a lot of stock's there. I tried to be adventurous but ended up liking and coming back home to order the candy raglan and the star biker sweat top. I'm a 10/12 with big saggy boobs and the XS in the raglan looked fine. I tried on the maxi shirt dress and had about a metre of spare material go on past my feet (am 5'4 on a good day). Good for amusement factor but not at that price.

Nearlyadoctor · 20/08/2017 22:06

It may just be my opinion but does anyone else think it's a shame JL have started selling Hush? Back in the early nineties I used to buy a lot of Crew Clothing/ Fat face and Joules which at the time were relatively unknown brands. Twice a year shopping trip to Salcombe, which was fab as nobody else was wearing the same thing- obviously over time they have become huge high st brands and everyone wears it.
Last year I got asked a couple of times wear the item I was wearing was from (Tara dress / Star jumper) and on neither occasion had the person in question heard of Hush but was admiring the clothing.
Sorry to totally derail the thread and it's obviously easier for those with JL that stock Hush close by to try things on first. I just quite liked the little niche it seemed to fit!

missfliss · 21/08/2017 14:56

I have ordered the Ascot red heels - which now means I (tragically) have this complete outfit (when the shoes arrive!)

Hush new collection.
MartinRohdesBellybuttonFluff · 21/08/2017 15:03

Love those shoes missfliss. I spotted them but as a person who doesn't go to many places I couldn't justify (or afford) them!

Please please please post a photo and let us know if they're comfortable when you get them!

SesameSparkle · 21/08/2017 15:24

missfliss that's a great look. I'm wondering if you've also got the bag...?

nearly I know exactly what you mean. I like wearing stuff that isn't available in my town - it means I'm very unlikely to see someone else wearing the same as me. And I've seem a lot more hush being worn on others since our JL started stocking it this year.

Part of the reason I still really like shopping in places like uniqlo and stories is that they're not avaliable anywhere near me. I've also bought a couple of very distinctive items from j crew recently - I just wouldn't if it would be recognised from a local store.

Nearlyadoctor · 21/08/2017 18:33

So my order arrived:
Ivy dress - the style just didn't suit, looked like I was wearing a sack.
Sloppy Joe - I already have two of these and wear them all the time but really didn't like the brick colour.
Cannes Overlay top - really nice and flattering but I need to size down to an 8 I think as the 10 was quite wide.
Helen Jumper- came up rather large, nothing special for the price and was already bobbling
Erica Knit top - absolutely gorgeous, felt like v good quality.
Florence Skirt - as per Mumbod totally amazing.
Love Jumper - is to die for, ordered the small but am also going to order the medium as I think it may be better slightly more oversized.

All in all very pleased - loving this collection.

missfliss · 21/08/2017 19:15

martinrhodesbellybutton I did look in lots of places for decent dupes in my size first. Very little even similar ( lots of suede but i want leather). So I reluctantly swallowed the cost. Gulp. The most have ever spent on shoes. Only my boots were more money.

I will take pics and let you know how comfy when they arrive, if they are too high for me to walk in then they will be going back.

missfliss · 21/08/2017 19:16

sesame I love the circular bag, but no - I mostly have a work bag ( soon to be a backpack!) far less glam

MerricatsHouse · 21/08/2017 19:58

Thanks for the info on the joggers captain , I'm going to leave those for now I think. Considered the harems but they have a fold over waistband and I can't abide them.

My parcel came today and they are all keepers. The Ivy dress in green is lovely, good quality jersey and covers a multitude of sins, oversized but that's totally me. I got a L and it fits nicely on me (14) but I do like things boxy and slouchy.

The Wide Jersey top is gorgeous, nice heavy quality to the jersey and a nice batwing effect/ narrow sleeve to add a bit of style. I had it in the pale grey and have the black on pre order so very glad I went for both.

The long sleeve Sloppy Joe in yellow is also very nice, comfy and cosy, perfect for lounging or for casual with jeans. I can never tell if colours suit me but I love the look of the yellow so am keeping it regardless. Will probably get another colour in that, as well as considering the Ivy dress in black before the code ends. These feel like long lasting staple pieces so hopefully they will wash well!

balkanscot · 21/08/2017 20:08

Have been eyeing up Christie coat as I have just realised that I just can't afford £315 for this Toast beauty!!! Sad Do Hush coats seem worthwhile? I bought a few basics pieces from them last year and wasn't particularly impressed after I have washed them - long and short-sleeved Tees seem to have gone all "raggy" (i.e., turned into shapeless rags). Sad Hareem trousers seem to be holding OK, but black tights started developing holes at the seams and the colour washed out after only a few washes. Confused

Arealhumanbeing · 22/08/2017 00:36

I was all set to buy the grey/blush Love jumper and then saw it was 44% nylon. For £130!

They ARE joking, right?

needastrongone · 22/08/2017 07:00

Thought I would stick my thought in on my order. I've tried to stay off the thread as you are all unwittingly enabling me GrinGrin

Ruched skirt in green XS, reduced at £20. I've loads of the ruched skirts but this was a steal and perfect autumn colour. Not even tried on as I know it will fit.

Pamplona frill skirt. I absolutely love this. It's well made, lined and zipped. Not as stretchy as I had imagined but I'm fine with this. VERY true to size, I suspect review will say it comes up small. I'm a 6 and XS fits me perfectly, this isn't vanity sizing that Hush might be accused of. You could dress this up or down and I think for £45, less discount, good value for Hush.

I also go the Aloha jumper in the sale for £40. It's thin, a summer jumper. For the price I paid, good value and a lovely colour.

I'm tempted for the T Shirts too, but I've had to return 3 this summer. They are so thin. Small holes developed in all of them. No other T shirt on any member of the family had this issue. Customer services were faultless though and refunded immediately. But it has put me off buying again.

I've noticed the blossom dress is similar to the Azalea dress of the last couple of seasons. I've worn the 2 colours I have to death.

needastrongone · 22/08/2017 07:03

Can't decide if I like these or not, opinions welcome.

One thing I did notice is how much of my full priced items ended up in the sale this season, so I'm holding off for now.

chloechloe · 22/08/2017 12:54

Thanks for the review on the Pamplona skirt needastrongone, think you've talked me into it!

Regarding faulty items, I assume you had to return them for the refund? I now have 2 T-shirts turned to rags but returning is a pain as I'm abroad.

martin I'm still indecisive about the Tina vs Tara but I'll let you know if I order!

I really love the "Love" jumper in grey and pink but not at that price!!!!
