Thoughts?

I know a lot of people think hush is overpriced tat, but this thread is for those of us that still buy the odd thing.

I've had a brief look & like the look of the Christie coat & Cassie dress. Last year I got a dress in the same style of this years clover dress, which I love.

However, the prints this year are awful.

Appuskidu I wear mine with a shirt or a short sleeved jumper for work. I find them really flattering on the bum and tummy so don't need to go baggy but they also look great with baggier tops. They also work with the Hush jumpers I own e.g. Stella.

My delivery arrived today. Love the Sintra shirt (I got the white with blue stars), the green star biker sweatshirt is gorgeous, the crossover ruched skirt really flattering and a great length on me, and the Edie trousers also fab. So looks like it's all staying!

What do I have to do to get chocolates????? I've ordered hundreds of pounds of stuff from them in the last few months. In my defence, I've lost nearly 7 stone in the last few years and also gone back to work after 10 years at home, so need a new wardrobe!

Thanks @laska5772 - that's really helpful.

Laska5772 · 30/09/2017 18:30

Anyone got the Dolman sloppy joe?

TheFormidableMrsC · 30/09/2017 18:50

Laska I bought the sloppy joe but wasn't impressed with it, too wide and too short so it went back. Lovely colour though.

ilovecherries · 30/09/2017 19:02

To compensate for my wide jersey top bring faulty, I bought the green Ivy in JL today - wasn't going to, but decided the colour suited me. Also tried on the Sintra shirt - absolutely gorgeous but too tight across the bust, even in a 16, so my wallet exhaled gently. Also tried the dolman top, but didn't suit me at all. Was too short for dolman sleeves (on me anyway) and I just looked a bit cuboid in it. Almost bought a Stella jumper but the XL was too big, even for a slouchy look. They had the L in a different colour way, and it fitted much better, but not the colour I wanted. Then went completely off piste and bought the Lola dress from Whistles, in Fig. I am loving fitting into nice clothes again. Am like a kid in a sweetie shop in JL these days.

I'm trying to decide between the similar style but differently priced, Tara, Tina and Alexandra dresses. Has anyone seen them in real life? I need something that could be styled up or down.

Talisin · 30/09/2017 19:42

I have various Taras and the Alexandra. Tara is a thin jersey material (double layered on the skirt) that’s more casual. The Alexandra is much heavier ribbed wool and definitely smarter (and warmer). The skirt part of the Tara stays put because it’s very tight at the hips whereas the Alexandra has a strongly elasticated waist (which is hidden by the drape of the top) to keep the skirt in place. As far as styling up goes the Alexandra is smart daytime dress, not so much evening-y if that’s what you’re after. The Tara - especially the black one - could potentially be jazzed up with accessories and a jacket or throw perhaps.

Can’t help with the Tina.

Bloomed · 30/09/2017 19:50

Thanks Talisin! I might try the Tara and then progress from there.

BeastOfCraggyIsland · 30/09/2017 20:26

Ooh Trumptown exactly how gorgeous is the green star biker sweatshirt? I think I might have to have it. I ordered the Sloppy Joe but returned it as it was too baggy and looked shapeless so I'm thinking the star sweatshirt could be a replacement order...

trumptown · 30/09/2017 20:44

Beast it is gorgeous. I'm in love with it. I have 2 sloppy joe's as well (the custard and the brick) and really like them too. The green biker is less "sloppy" though, definitely less baggy, so if you weren't happy with the fit of the sloppy joe's I think you'll find the biker a bit more fitted.

trumptown · 30/09/2017 20:49

Bloomed I've got one Tara and one Tina. Tara is just as Talisin described. I have charcoal. Tina is lovely (I have Burgundy) but thicker material, you can style either up or down but Tara is a more "casual" fabric I'd say. Tina is thicker, so a bit less relaxed.

BeastOfCraggyIsland · 30/09/2017 20:50

Ordered! As soon as I saw it I knew it was inevitable Grin

Talisin · 30/09/2017 21:22

Just to throw another option in there for you Bloomed, Phase Eight does a very similar sort of dress called the Becca batwing dress. It’s a kind of a cross between the Tara and Tina and comes in various colours and degrees of dressiness.

miffy2 · 30/09/2017 21:33

For some reason the Tara never suited me (and it is my name so i would have loved it!). It was either too short in the skirt or if I pulled it down then the part where the top and skirt meet was exposed and looked silly. I have a Tina from last year and it is a thin wool knit, but as it is now a bit big on me I am going to have to wear it with a wide belt to stop the skirt part slipping down.

I am so indecisive about the grey star biker, I am thinking of sending it back to get credit towards my latest purchases (!) but I tried it on again with my navy harems and it looks lovely. You see, I love the sloppy joe style. I wear them baggy over skinny jeans or joggers, and love the tight sleeve/wide body effect. The biker is tighter but has a good neckline. And then of course I see the green version...I think I will wait till I see what I am keeping/sending back from the latest order.

RubbishMantra · 01/10/2017 00:23

Bloomed, you'll probably like this dress as well, from Esprit.

Justfivemoreminutesplease · 01/10/2017 09:22

Just got the email about the Refuge pjs. Glad to hear good things about the pj quality as that justifies me ordering them even more (and am desperate for an eye mask that isn't naff) so it looks like another win, win, win. And whilst I'm here, I might as well add the red/grey reversible Stella jumper....

Theycalledmethewildrose · 01/10/2017 09:25

The Esprit dress is very nice.

Like the idea of the Refuge pjs. They would make good Christmas gifts esp if they enclose some information about the donation they are making which they probably will.

Bloomed · 01/10/2017 11:49

Thanks trumptown I think I'll try the Tara first. I'm very short miffy2 so the skirt on the Tara may be ok for me. The phase eight dress looks good Talisin, I'll see if my local has them to try on. The esprit dress is a definite contender, good find RubbishMantra. Wish all the John Lewis stores would stock hush. I've just ordered black long harems and black Tara dress. I'll then progress to other colours if they work ok Wink. I've got flat over the knee burgundy suede boots which might dress up the Tara dress a bit.
Does anyone wear the harems for going out? I could do with changing up my jeans and a nice top routine. I have a khaki suede biker jacket and that might work with harems and heels.

RubbishMantra · 01/10/2017 13:34

I haven't yet Bloomed, but I would. I wonder if they'd look good with small suede slouchy ankle boots like the ones Isabel Marant did last decade, that everyone went laldy for? Like someone said upthread, easier in summer, because shoes tend to be more delicate then.

I thought the clothes may come up weeny on Other Stories - shame as they do look beautiful. The Esprit dress is v. easy to wear, I'd order it in more colours if they made them. It really is the same fit as in the photograph, but I sized up to make sure I got the same floppy fit.

Judydreamsofhorses · 01/10/2017 15:13

My lightening bolt jumper and crossover ruched skirt came yesterday - both keepers.

Re the ruched skirts, I wear jumpers or sweatshirts with mine, and usually opaque tights and black Stan Smith trainers. I wouldn't wear them with bare legs as they come up too short on me - I'm a size 10 and 5ft 6, and mine are M, although everything else I have from Hush is S.

In terms of hits and misses, jersey/sweat-shirty stuff seems to work best for me, the Breton striped jumper I bought last year was lovely but unwearable after a couple of washes. I have the leopard print shirt from last year which I like, but I have similar shirts which are just as nice from places like Topshop and cost a lot less. My best Hush buy was the cashmere beanie hat - it doesn't have a tight bottom, so it doesn't give me hat hair with that ridge bit most hats have. I got the charcoal colour and just keep it in my handbag permanently so I can whip it on if the weather is bad.

rainforestsloth · 01/10/2017 15:18

I just got the Tansy dress as well love it

rightknockered · 01/10/2017 15:42

I'm quite tempted by the Tansy dress. What is the fabric like? Also I am 5ft 6ish (ok, closer to 5ft 5.5...) how long is it on everyone else?

rainforestsloth · 01/10/2017 16:24

rightknockered I wod say that Tansy is like a crepe de chine it is quite short I am just over 5ft and it's on my knee

rainforestsloth · 01/10/2017 16:24

*would

Theonlyoneiknow · 01/10/2017 16:56

Is the sizing on the Tansy generous? I have a big list now thanks to this thread but need to try and wait for the next 10% off code !
