Little things that mean Style Death

I read the other day that one of the worst things you can do style-wise is to miss out a belt loop on your trousers. I've never done this, but I do permanently have a hair bobble around my wrist. This is apparently a big NO. What other little things should I not be doing?

What's a nice trendy upgrade from a fleece please? I wear them on the school run, know they look awful but seem to keep grabbing one running out the door 😫And oh god do I admit it's usually a tracksuit bottom it's worn with oh the shame 😳

CaulkheadUpNorf · 26/05/2017 22:36

changeling is it worn for warmth or for the pockets?

nina2b · 26/05/2017 22:43

All tattoos ARE ugly. IMO

nina2b · 26/05/2017 22:44

Tattoos and ART? Surely an oxymoron.

I've never seen a tattoo I thought was at all attractive - and I have seen quite a lot, they're everywhere these days. I just prefer the look of plain skin.

I like the sound of "train lady in the fishing hat" and agree with you Bat. It must feel bloody fantastic to not give a shit what anyone thinks, I'd love to be more like that.

In my 20s I shared a small office with a woman like this. She had an excellent selection of ponchos and what DH used to refer to as her "football manager coats" (those 3/4 length padded/quilted ones for cold weather). She couldn't have given a monkeys. I was quite impressed with her insouciance.

Crochita · 26/05/2017 23:11

I used to work with a girl who only ironed the front of her clothes. From behind they were always crumpled!

She also only curled the front and ends of her hair resulting in the hair on the back of her head looking completely flattened.

One day a guy came looking for her but didn't know her name and said, "oh you know, she looks like she's been hit on the back of the head by a frying pan"!

NeverTooOldForAnything · 26/05/2017 23:22

Yes sorry there was a word missing, it should have read smart leather bag. Slouchy / messenger type bags are fine with casual shoes, it's the style rather than the material that matters.

Sorry I couldn't explain myself clearly , it's been a long day.

Can I be forgiven though as I am going on an adventure holiday in Iceland and I need to dress for all weathers?

You will fit right in on your Iceland holiday. Nearly everyone you see is in outdoor wear - whole restaurants and bars full of people in hiking boots, walking trousers with zip off lower sections (Shock), fleece and anoraks. It was my most relaxing summer holiday ever, as at 12-18c in mid-July with stiff onshore breezes, worrying about showing off my muffin top would have been completely irrelevant. Happy days Grin

ChangelingToday · 26/05/2017 23:56

Caulk I would have to say warmth, I'm always cold!

CaulkheadUpNorf · 27/05/2017 00:10

changeling is there time to plan the night before what you'll wear, along with a jacket/cardigan/thin coat if you're cold.

1forAll74 · 27/05/2017 00:56

The Queen always looks very stylish. she tends to wear mostly the same style outfits and hats all the time.. just in different bright colours.. But maybe she crashes out in leggings and crop tops and Crocs in her private rooms at the palace..

reuset · 27/05/2017 01:30

Black tights with white shoes.

TheDowagerCuntess · 27/05/2017 01:32

But maybe she crashes out in leggings and crop tops and Crocs in her private rooms at the palace.

Grin

I doubt it, though. If you don't like leggings, even crashing out in them has zero appeal.

falange · 27/05/2017 06:07

Not liking tattoos is not the sign of a closed mind. It's just not liking something. I absolutely hate them. Even though I've got one. Got it done in the 80's when they weren't as common as today. It's the worst thing I've ever done even though it's hidden from the view of anyone else 99% of the time. I think they look awful. Total style death

BusterGonad · 27/05/2017 06:37

Surely not liking tattoos is the same as not liking nipple piercings or nose rings? It's exactly that. Something you don't like and don't find attractive!

bigmouthstrikesagain · 27/05/2017 06:46

As I am more a magpie (I like shiny/ colourful) than a style maven, I am not sure if I have any helpful insight.

I know what I don't like... Uniformity - when I look across the school playground and there is a sea of black coats, sensible jeans and ponytails ... There is no

bigmouthstrikesagain · 27/05/2017 07:06

Rationality to this dislike. It stems from hating wearing uniforms at school. I think people should wear what they like within reason. Not be cowed into wearing what has been deemed acceptable, but that is not going to equate to stylish.

I have large wide high instep feet that would love to wear stylish shoes but cannot squeeze into them so short of cutting off toes like an ugly step sister I return year after year to docs, converse and birkinstocks. I have two pairrs of strappy wedges that I wear maybe twice a year.

Oh and as I am tall I wear leggings as tights occasionally under dresses that would be indecently short on me otherwise. Also my trainer socks are visible as the Invisible ones don't stretch over my huuuuge feet leaving my heels a bloody mess - pretty sure visible blood is a fashion no no as well Confused

So I will stick to clothes that make me feel good and hope that extends to how I look.

FuckyDuck · 27/05/2017 07:39

Leggings worn as trousers is the worst
Visible thong when you crouch down - blergh
ill fitting clothes
Ugly handbag

QueenoftheAndals · 27/05/2017 07:47

I go one further than that FuckyDuck and raise you leggings that are so flimsy you can see pants AND sanitary towel when the wearer bends over!

FuckyDuck · 27/05/2017 07:49

Queen I'm equally queasy and stifling laughter at the same time.

I did one see a girl on the tube in a mini skirt with a tampon string hanging down her leg Envy

TheFirstMrsDV · 27/05/2017 08:25

crochita I know someone who only shaved the front of her legs Grin

BusterGonad · 27/05/2017 08:46

Fucky 🤢

ChangelingToday · 27/05/2017 08:46

Caulk that's what I'll have to do, all the other mummies are all put together, makeup, hair done, I literally drop the kids with the head down and go 😆
