Little things that mean Style Death

I read the other day that one of the worst things you can do style-wise is to miss out a belt loop on your trousers. I've never done this, but I do permanently have a hair bobble around my wrist. This is apparently a big NO. What other little things should I not be doing?

What is a bobble please?

camelfinger · 26/05/2017 20:20

If I wear heels or trainers without socks I rub my feet, necessitating plasters. These in turn rub, spoiling my attempt at trying to look elegant or whatever by having bits of wrinkled plaster attached to my footwear in various places. I'd probably be better off wearing frumpy shoes in the first place, at least then I'd be comfortable and not worrying about depositing manky plasters everywhere.

To the person who said anything from Next or Marks and Spencer's, just you wait. You will reach a certain age and suddenly start thinking 'I didn't realise Next and M&S did such nice clothes'. I never thought it would happen to me but it did!

QueenoftheAndals · 26/05/2017 20:36

On the contrary, I used to buy much more from M&S 10 years ago but now I get hardly anything there as the designs and quality have gone to shit!

Rowenag · 26/05/2017 20:40

I saw a girl at Lakeside who was wearing a backless top with a nude, ugly, thick strapped bra which completely showed and looked awful. I also dislike lace tops on most people as I think they look tacky. Also thick vertical striped shirts on women for some reason but I think that is a personal taste thing rather than a fashion faux pas. Felt really embarrassed when I read the clip clop comment about people who don't mend their heels as I have been doing that on our wooden floors at work all winter! Good thread though - and a terrible advertisement for Crocs!

Rowenag · 26/05/2017 20:42

That's interesting QueenoftheAndais! I have some lovely M&S dresses but I did only start to consider wearing their clothes when I hit 40!

TSSDNCOP · 26/05/2017 20:48

Crocs on anyone over age 10

Bootlegs that are too short worn with heavy heeled ankle boots.

Pyjamas worn outside the home except to hang washing.

Those three quarter wide legged linen trousers sold n M&S this time for year.

Unpedicured feet with sandals or flip flops.

Tattoos, I'll get flamed as they're always "meaningful" and "expressive" but 90% look like shite.

Mixing the wrong shoes with an outfit eg leather court shoes with a satin cocktail dress.

hmmmum · 26/05/2017 20:56

Ugh is it necessary to police what other people wear? Maybe they just threw something on because they're busy and don't care what random mumsnet people think. Sure, care about your own sense of style, but nothing to me signals style death more than people with an ugly controlling attitude towards what other people wear.

caramac04 · 26/05/2017 21:02

Ohboy
Thank you Smile

BitOutOfPractice · 26/05/2017 21:04

Ivory is policing anyone. Just expressing their opinions about fashion.

falange · 26/05/2017 21:15

I like m&s. Not everything but I don't like everything in any shop. Can always find something to buy.

CherylVole · 26/05/2017 21:15

love people coming on to a thread about style saying they dont care

Fuck off then!

CherylVole · 26/05/2017 21:15

oh god yes tattoos

always ugly and common

mrsBeverleygoldberg · 26/05/2017 21:25

I have tattoos and I'm really classy and stylish!Grin

NeverTooOldForAnything · 26/05/2017 21:39

Black tights in spring / summer. Unless you have a skin condition, just don't.

Also hanger loops, scuffed shoes, fleeces and sport sandals as regular day wear, leather bag with trainers or casual bag with smart shoes.

the art - ugly colours
naff designs

Wh0Kn0wsWhereTheTimeGoes · 26/05/2017 21:49

I can't go bra-less or wear strapless bras either. But I don't like my underwear on show so I don't wear strappy tops.

However I have plantar fasciitis so Crocs are my friend. Each to their own!

I also don't like shoes that are uncared for, scuffed or missing the heal stud thingy. I do think it looks a bit nasty but I realize that not everyone has the time or inclination to be bothered to fix them. I do keep my shoes in top form as once I've found a pair I like I do wear them for years and I am prepared to invest in them.

splendide · 26/05/2017 22:04

leather bag with trainers

Really? I don't wear trainers that often but all my bags are leather. Do you mean you shouldn't carry a handbag when you're in trainers?

Wh0Kn0wsWhereTheTimeGoes · 26/05/2017 22:12

Oh, fail for me today then, crocs, walking boots and trainers are all I can wear at the moment so I had trainers with my leather bag today, it is a slouchy, casual bag though.

TeaAddict235 · 26/05/2017 22:17

Chipped nails or scraggy nail polish,
Bra showing,
Overly tight clothes,
Too much make up
