Little things that mean Style Death

I read the other day that one of the worst things you can do style-wise is to miss out a belt loop on your trousers. I've never done this, but I do permanently have a hair bobble around my wrist. This is apparently a big NO. What other little things should I not be doing?

I saw a woman get on the bus wearing a pencil skirt, tights and trainers. It just looked so utterly wrong.

I work in a hospital and for a while crocs were the only thing I could bear to wear due to a chronic foot problem. I was literally hobbling down a corridor and passed one of the orthopaedic consultants. He noticed the hobbling and told me to take the crocs off immediately. I asked him if they were bad for my feet . 'No' he said 'They're ugly , no one should ever wear Crocs'.

He did sneak me into his clinic though and eventually cured me !

VPL
Crocs
High impossible to run in heels
Bare midrifts
Socks and sandles
Multiple jangly bangles
Overly long nails

I read something the other day that said boot cut jeans were a no-no, so there goes most of my trousers or they would if I actually gave a shit.

SemiNormal · 26/05/2017 19:18

I think most people who consider themselves stylish are people who blend in quite well who people wouldn't notice very much. For me someone who is stylish stands out for all the right reasons, they are leaders of fashion - not followers. They look good because they have a 'don't give a fuck' attitude about wearing things that other people dare not. It's all subjective though isn't it. What is stylish for one person won't be for the next. That said although I'm not stylish by anyones definition but I wear what is practical for me, what I feel comfortable and confident in and genuinely don't care what anyone else thinks - thankfully!

caramac04 · 26/05/2017 19:18

I'm a fail because I actually use the hanging loops in the shoulders of my dresses and get really fucking irked at irritating people who insist on tucking them in. While I'm wearing the item of clothing. Just fuck off. They don't bother me but you do .

BlackSwan · 26/05/2017 19:22

Nude tights with open toed shoes.
Men who wear sock suspenders (what are they called?).
Men who wear a cap balancing on their head rather than pulling it down to fit. YUCK.

To be fair to her, she probably only wears the trainers to and from work and keeps heels under her desk!

BlackSwan · 26/05/2017 19:26

And another - I have a major major problem with anyone clicking about in high heels because their heel tips have worn through. Cheap.

morningconstitutional2017 · 26/05/2017 19:26

Having raggedy (or even neatly ironed) labels sticking out of the back of your top. Just no.

falange · 26/05/2017 19:36

Labels on the sole of your shoes. Shudder

SamineShaw · 26/05/2017 19:37

I wore Crocs on my wedding day....

falange · 26/05/2017 19:39

Any bag that has the name of the designer on it. I don't care how expensive it is.

Beachhairdontcare · 26/05/2017 19:48

I have a few fashion mistakes for young, tween, and early teens
No glitter, sequins, or rhinestones
No fashion boots
No fancy shoes for everyday
Sensible, warm school shoes can be worn seven days a week
No Princess outfits
No makeup before fourteen. This includes BB cream, colored lip gloss, and face painting.
No nail polish until sixteen, and no nails longer than fingertips. It's most hygienic, and is a good ruke for everyone.

SirRaymondClench · 26/05/2017 19:52

Not sure if it's been said but bootleg jeans

TheFirstMrsDV · 26/05/2017 19:55

glitter I get that impression but I suppose its a generalisation and there must be lots of 'edgy' French women.

The British are renowned for their Street Style though.

I love Alexa Chung's style.

A tip re those hanger loops in the shoulders of tops - you can slip them under your bra strap and they keep your bra and top together. I didn't know this til my gay male friend (who designs and makes dresses) told me.

CherylVole · 26/05/2017 20:05

BURLESQUE SHIT- always worn by women who shouldnt .
and irregular choice shoes - are just horrendous. People say ' ooh nice shoes' because they can't ignore their horro

danni1979 · 26/05/2017 20:08

Oh dear god! I'm practically failing all of these!!!
I knew I was far from fashionable, but the bobble thing (cos I crap at doing my hair as much as I am at fashion)
!), north face jacket, occasional adidas leggings, clothes a bit too snug, shoes o despise cos they've got more than a 1" heel...the list goes on and on of failures!
Good thing is, I realise it, but am well into the 'really couldn't give a cr*p what other people think' category, lucky me right?! Hmm
So...how do I achieve a comfortable, warm (I'm always freezing in the office aircon) smart look, with comfortable (flat!) shoes, clothes covering lumps and bumps etc ??
Exactly....it's not possible, in my opinion ! Grin

wanderings · 26/05/2017 20:14

I just solve the trainer socks problem by cutting out the middleman - bare feet, trainers on, job done. In summer and winter. But I seem to be unusual for this. Wink Call it unpleasant, but I prefer it that way.

DebiNewberry · 26/05/2017 20:14

To prev poster way back - I like a white or coloured bra under a top - I think it can look so much cooler than ghastly nude bra.

DebiNewberry · 26/05/2017 20:15

Also no one gives a shit about the bobble thing. Fact.
