Is Joules 'mumsy'?

Bought a new top from Joules, tunic with bright flowers on and my husband says I look mumsy. To be fair I am a mum of 2 and 40 but just wanted to know what the consensus was about Joules stuff?

OP posts:
Summerisdone · 21/05/2017 14:47

IMO yes it is, sorry.
The only people I know who wear Joules are either my nan who is 78, or the 'mumsy' brigade (who all appear to be in their 40's) at my DSis's primary school.

Maudlinmaud · 21/05/2017 14:48

My reusable shopping bags are joules. Well they are a mixture of joules and kiely. Mumsy to the max Grin

user1491572121 · 21/05/2017 14:49

Caroline that's because you're 29! Grin

Once you hit 40 plus, it's harder to get it "right" in generic clothes. Things which looked good in your twenties suddenly make you look old.

GrumpyMcGrumpFace · 21/05/2017 14:50

wear it if you like it! There is no law against being Mumsy.

I'm worse - I keep buying things from M&S. And mostly because it's easy to get to the shop...

MrsELM21 · 21/05/2017 14:54

Possibly, I'm 37 with 2 x DC and it's almost like my uniform Blush

Squeegle · 21/05/2017 14:57

It's ok to be Mumsie when you're a 50 year old mum isn't it? Wink I love it. But it's a bit on the expensive side

Tanaqui · 21/05/2017 15:03

Joules, fatdace,ws, sea salt- they are the best places to get natural fabrics on the high street- maybe crew too- but they aren't high fashion. Mumsy is a term I hate, but as the opposite of fashion victim maybe that's what it is!

Minnie747 · 21/05/2017 15:06

I'm late 20's and like Joules. Very mumsy though, but that doesn't bother me!

bigredboat · 21/05/2017 15:21

I'm 29, I have a few bits from joules (stripy tops and a raincoat). I think it's less mumsy than Boden which mumsnet seems to love! There is a joules outlet where I live so can get some good bargains, especially when they have a sale on.

MrsMoastyToasty · 21/05/2017 15:26

Joules always reminds me of the 1980s Sloane Ranger type of women. Probably because the first time I saw the shop was in Salcombe in the 80s and Salcombe is where there were always a lot of those people around.

Maudlinmaud · 21/05/2017 15:34

Yes I love the sloane ranger look. That is me sometimes. I'm not even joking.

DoorKnee · 21/05/2017 15:38

Mumsy. I do love their Bretons, raincoats and Westbourne Chelsea boots though. I also have a gorgeous brown leather bag from there. I avoid most print though so the rest of it passes me by.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 21/05/2017 15:40

Hate the word 'Mumsy'.

I went into Joules today and found it all very depressing. It's all 'perky' and 'cheerful' looking. If they made the Harbour tops in dark colours and not just bright and stripes, I'd buy several. I have some black skinnies from there which are good. Most of it, I wouldn't touch with a barge pole though.

Ocies · 21/05/2017 15:44

I bloody love Joules Breton tops.

Ninjapants · 21/05/2017 15:44

I love Joules stuff, especially my recently acquired body warmer/gilet, it's the best!
But then I'm a middle class late 30 something mum who's not pretending to be anything else Wink

Wear what you want to wear, who cares whether someone else thinks it's 'cool', you're not a teenager you're a middle class mummy Grin

oddthing · 21/05/2017 15:50

Some stuff is cool some aren't (shrugs)

If you have to ask us MNetters for advice than it's not for you imo. Stuff I love I don't ask advice on and I don't listen to cheeky comments about either!

BusterGonad · 21/05/2017 16:14

MrsMoastyToasty I love the term Sloane Ranger. It always reminds me of Trinny and Susannah! Grin

Therealslimshady1 · 21/05/2017 16:17

I love mumsy stuffGrin

Joules is good quality, I like their clothes

Shockers · 21/05/2017 16:23

I find that it's all a bit shapeless. I could get away with shapeless when I was young and slim, but I need a better cut now I'm older and slightly plump. Fat Face is the same... their stuff looks great on DD, but hideous on me.

I like some White Stuff clothes though. I have a blouse of theirs that I always get complemented on.

Am I a sloane in a nice crisp white shirt with turned up collar and jears. Please tell me I am Navy?

Therealslimshady1 · 21/05/2017 16:26

Haha, indeed, Sloane rangers (80s term!) Shop at the King's Road, not at country stores (where they sell Joules) Grin

Maudlinmaud · 21/05/2017 16:29

There is a handbook for sloane rangers I've been tempted to buy it before. I might do now for the Craic.
