Is Joules 'mumsy'?

Bought a new top from Joules, tunic with bright flowers on and my husband says I look mumsy. To be fair I am a mum of 2 and 40 but just wanted to know what the consensus was about Joules stuff?

It is a sort of identifiably British 'I don't care' way of dressing
Nice prints, terrible cuts

I don't understand. If you are middle class and a mum (or any class) what is wrong with looking like you are? How is it frumpy to look like a mother? What would people recommend 40 something mothers should wear on a school run/down to the park etc to avoid looking 'mumsy' and frumpy? Confused

My idea of frumpy isn't White stuff/Seasalt/joules/Fatface. It's XXL Primark/Sports' Direct mens' fleeces on women with badly cut jeans. My standards are rock bottom clearly. Grin

I'm 59 and I walk in there and walk out again. It strikes me as the sort of thing they dress Mary Berry in on Bake-off. Especially those striped tops with flowery bits on.

I think people are confusing Mumsy with Frumpy.

It's perfectly possible to be a Mum, and not be frumpy. And vice versa.

Love joules unfortunately I'm on sat mat pay just now so can't afford. If i didn't buy my baby son the cutest outfits I could afford clothes for meBlush

I just hate the colours. The shapes may be fine. But nothing could make me try the bright zinging colours. Sorry. End of rant.

Cellardoor23 · 22/05/2017 22:08

I don't like the flowery stripped tops. The rest of it is alright.

Like a PP I too dislike the term 'mumsy', its ageist and sexist, and such a horrible thing for your husband to say to you OP. Please could you critique his clothes back at him and don't hold back?

Why do women put up with this? Bad enough from men but also from other women. 'Mumsy' is as bad as the term 'mutton'.

I've got some joules polo tops, they're so old they could probably be classed as 'vintage' . I don't think I would shop there now as I'm not keen on the style, patterns, colours, quality and prices.
