Is Joules 'mumsy'?

Ladycocobrazil · 21/05/2017 13:39

Bought a new top from Joules, tunic with bright flowers on and my husband says I look mumsy. To be fair I am a mum of 2 and 40 but just wanted to know what the consensus was about Joules stuff?

OP posts:
littleredpear · 21/05/2017 16:32

Totally agree Remus. The harbour tops in plain colours, total winner,

If you shop selectively, you can get some great quality items from Joules. A lot of it is a bit naff, but I have several really great things from them that people compliment all the time.

PUGaLUGS · 21/05/2017 16:33

I am 52 and wouldn't wear it. Definitely frumpy.

MrsKenningtonBag · 21/05/2017 16:35

Depends what it is surely.

Mind I have got a raincoat which is just for the school run

I think the casual stuff is quite classic/harmless though

Queenofthedrivensnow · 21/05/2017 16:47

It's one of those labels like Animal - gorgeous kids clothes I buy piles of them but at 37 the women's wear is way too mumsy for me. Mind you I love their jackets. The menswear is much worse though I ruffled through for dp (42) and it's all embarrassing dad clothes and deck shoes

SpeakerOfTheHouse · 21/05/2017 17:02

i love mistral this season more than Joules.. cheaper, better quality imo and their jeans/crops are the best i've bought - wash & wear like a dream..and NOT mumsy!

BusterGonad · 21/05/2017 17:10

Good advice Navy, a turnt up collar is very Sloan in my humble opinion!

carabos · 21/05/2017 17:12

Joules, Crew, Seasalt, Fat Face, White Stuff, Boden, Clark's, M&S - couldn't be more mumsy if they tried. They're cut for women with big boobs and "baby fat" tummies, but skinny, untoned arms and legs. Colours are awful - many variations of pastel or sludge but occasionally citrus if they're feeling daring for summer. Never anything in black. I wouldn't be seen dead in there and I'm 53.

Flumpernickel · 21/05/2017 17:16

It is frumptastic IMHO, along with white stuff, fat face and seasalt. Sorry OP! Blush

Goodness what a thoroughly toxic post. Such rancid contempt for the post-partum female body, as though bringing another human into the world was something to be ashamed of.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 21/05/2017 17:22

Just had a quick look at Mistral - not doing it for me, sorry. Everything is blue.

I have pale, skinny arms and legs, big boobs and a big tummy since I've been on medication. Looks like I'm doomed, wherever I shop.

llhj · 21/05/2017 17:29

carabos your post is fucking nasty. I'm not one to to wear a lot of that stuff but I don't disparage the bodies of those who do. Hatred and scathing of women comes from every letter of your post. Horrible stuff.

VintagePerfumista · 21/05/2017 17:31

You like a cropped legging though, I seem to recall Carabos?

Biscuit
NotYoda · 21/05/2017 17:31

Yes it is

VintagePerfumista · 21/05/2017 17:32

Carabos has a thing about weight.

To be pitied more than mocked. Must be awful to be so not confident in one's own skin you are totally obsessed with your own weight and that of others.

megletthesecond · 21/05/2017 17:32

Yes, on me (43 and 2 dc's) it would be.

I accidentally bought something from Mantaray in debenhams once. I wore it once then charity shopped it, it put a decade on me.

caffelatte100 · 21/05/2017 17:33

So for those posters that say Joules, Fatface, white stuff are frumpy, mumsy etc... then which shops are not?

Millionsofstickers · 21/05/2017 17:34

I went into Joules today and got slightly depressed by it. I agree with whoever said it was too perky. I think most of it would look hideous on me, but I imagine a lot of. Their stuff could look good on somebody a bit more tall and willowy than me. Their patterns just aren't my style. I wouldn't say mumsy as such, just not for me.

NotYoda · 21/05/2017 17:35

I look utterly shit in a Breton top

You could not find a less flattering look on me

Every year I think about getting one, imagining myself as Audrey Hepburn/Alexa Chung, but looking like a boob

badabing36 · 21/05/2017 17:36

I like being mumsy, wish I could afford joules right now, managed to buy some in between mortgages, I'm 30.

BusterGonad · 21/05/2017 17:39

Carabos you've just described my body, fantastic tits and the slenderest legs you've ever seen with a lovely soft feminine tummy! Grin 😘

Maudlinmaud · 21/05/2017 17:42

Good grief Carabos is there really any need for that? You can get a point across with out insulting people and if you can't you probably shouldn't risk it. I don't know why some posters are so nasty on this site.

NotYoda · 21/05/2017 17:42

caffelatte

I think it's hard to avoid mumsy if you are

  1. Middle aged
  2. Have biggish breasts
  3. Are averse to/can't spend too much on clothes
  4. Are attracted to colour and pattern
  5. Aren't brave enough to really go for a quirky/artistic look

I have a few really nice tops from Cos for work, but apart from that I'm trouble by that lack of things that will work for me now. I'm slimmish, have good legs, but the boobs and arm cut out quite a lot of things

Woman I work with (bit younger) gets lots of stuff from Zara, I think
