Paper...yes! That's IT! Youth dew is like cola!

Mrsmartell08 · 29/06/2017 21:18

In other news...(I will go to bed soon I promise....)
I have given my mil the RG..apparently she wore it in the 80s and loved it and tbh after the first burst of loveliness it turns a bit metallic (?) on my skin :(

MrsCocoa · 29/06/2017 23:28

SotD Les Nuits D'Hadrien - reunited with an old favourite courtesy of eBay but wishing I'd hung out for an EdP as the staying power of the EdT is exceedingly poor.

Paper - think I'm increasingly finding redeeming features in quite a lot of the stuff I smell as I can't seem to think of many 'hates'. Perhaps I'm getting more selective about what I try as I learn more about the notes I'm drawn to. So rare 'dislikes' include the notorious 1805, and the off the scale vintage Avon aldehyde monsters, Topaze and Charisma. Whilst admiring L'As Timbuktu it always gives me a thumping headache. A lot of the current Channels and Lancomes fail to move me very much, although I used to be a Coco fan, so we're probably not twins at all, (more distance cousins?).

Puppylucky · 30/06/2017 06:05

Mrs Martello - T&D is fabulous. I discovered it by reading about it on this very thread (about 3 incarnations ago!). I had just tried Fracas for the first time and loved it but to my mind T&D is even better. It's a big Tuberose scent but it doesn't have that harsh soapy note that a lot of Tuberose scents have - it's warm and buttery and the dry down lasts forever as a warm and sexy skin scent. It ticks that comfort box we were talking about up thread and even though it's a big scent it never feels overpowering or head achy - to me at least - plus it's cheap! Can you tell I love it yet?!
Thanks for the Herba Fresca reccomendation Auld Spinster - I have tried Pamplune (aka Cat Pee) before without success but I will give this one a go as it sounds lovely

MrsCocoa · 30/06/2017 06:18

Trying two powdery, musky vintage parfums side by side today; Lancome Magie (1950) and Houbigant's Chantilly (1941). Openings are quite different - Chantilly develops quickly from lemon to leather notes, and nods for a bit to Tabu. Magie opens as a relatively dry chypre with a big blast of moss, but this begins to soften and a musky violet emerges. From memory the dry-downs have some similarities - we'll see!

Mrsmartell08 · 30/06/2017 06:22

Hmmmm
Powdery...my favourite 😁
It would have been my lovely dad's 71st birthday today so i shall wear nightmusk as that's what I wore when I still lived at home.
I am on a perfume buying ban this month 😣

Dlpdep · 30/06/2017 07:21

Well I'm off to a duty free today and am going perfume free with little DD to help me! She has turned into a total little perfumista and loves nothing more than spraying testers on the little strip of paper.

I am hoping not to purchase as I will purchase abroad - not sure what yet, as we always go the the same 'holiday' perfume shop and the guy there always makes me buy a mahoosive tester size at an unbelievably cheap price, but doesn't have a huge selection and I prefer smaller bottles and his selection is fairly limited. I got Shalimar on foot of Mumsnet recommendations last time. I don't think he has channel or I might go for No 19. Ah....decisions decisions!

papersmile · 30/06/2017 12:07

Enjoy Dipdep!

My Nose.fr samples arrived today. The first one I'm trying is Feminin Pluriel Maison Francis Kurkdjian for women. It's very nice - powdery, floral and not too sweet. It really reminds me of a sample of Narciso Rodriguez Fleur Musc for Her that I had.

I like it, but it's not quite interesting enough to love. It doesn't seem to develop much from the first few minutes. Very nice though and quite comforting.

HysterectomyHysteria · 30/06/2017 12:07

My 4160 tasters have arrived!
So far I have only smelt two, 'sunshine and pancakes' and ' up the apples and pears' , one on each wrist.
My nose is currently confused, I don't know what notes I am picking up but half an hour in and they smell surprisingly similar! Which I don't think that they should!? I like them both but I don't love either (yet).

papersmile · 30/06/2017 12:38

Hysterectomy - it's good that you like them, I think that means there's much more a chance that they're your 'type' of perfume than they were for me.
In the small sample that I tried there was a similarity. I don't know what the correct term is but there's a background 'hum' that is very 4160. I find that also with Miller Harris perfumes - there's a similarity of background. They don't smell the same but there's something about them that's recognisable.
Will be interesting to hear what you think of the others.

Mrsmartell08 · 30/06/2017 13:21

VintagePerfumista · 30/06/2017 14:26

Hello lovelies!

Lots of posts to catch up on!

Maples Welcome to the perfumistas! I think, from your list, and especially from you mentioning Coromandel, you'd like some of the Tauers that we spent all winter raving about...L'Air du Desert Marocain, Au Coeur du Desert, Lonestar Memories are all warm and spicy and have a real wow factor like Coromandel does. If you like Chanel Chance/Coco/Allure then I think you'd like sandalwoody perfumes- Tam Dao by Diptique, good old Dune by Dior and Le Labo (can't remember the sandalwoody name) Leathers might also be up your street- lots of those around (I love Keiko Mecheri Cuir Cordoba, then there is Cuir de Russie, Chanel and Bandit by Piguet- the vintage is amazing, but the new version isn't half bad!) Also check out "tobacco" based scents, they might be to your liking- I like Miller Harris Feuilles de Tabac.

Tried Atelier Clementine California last night- it is almost 40 degrees here and we are wilting (and covered in mozzie bites, and I never get bitten) and I wanted orangey fresh. This one is odd, it starts off nice and orangey, then that aftershave twang kicks in. Not as nice as the neroli. Obviously, like the other Ateliers it lasted for about 8 seconds so it didn't matter that it wasn't very nice.

floofy- no the cat never came back. Sad We are still making light for dd, but dp told me that he had 2 phonecalls about dead black cats on the road, one that the person thought was the Monday (ours disappeared on the Tuesday, but it's a bit close for comfort as the person couldn't quite remember) and the other last Sunday. A lady rang to say she'd found a dead black cat on the road and moved it. Dp didn't go and look (I couldn't) because as I said, if it's him, going to look is even worse somehow.

Auld We have to know who the popstar is! Give us more clues! And Guy Garvey would smell of Kouros. (that's only because all men should smell of Kouros in my world)

MrsMartell- Flowers for your Dad's birthday. Hope you are OK. And congrats for ds's prizes!

MrsCocoa I absolutely get the changing tastes thing- in the 80s I was all about the big statement scents- Obsession, Poison, Ysatis. I also loved vanilla based anything. Now vanilla turns my stomach unless it's very subtle, which it never is, by definition!

Three I wore Paris yesterday. I bloody love it. But it's another that sweeps me back to the 80s so that's why.

My Evil Fragrance Twin would like Flowerbomb, White Musk, Dewberry, Tresor

Haven't got any perfume on yet today as have a headache with this flipping heat.

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 30/06/2017 14:27

ending up cracking and ordering ET Violet Eyes, hope it's as good as the other two ET's i have!

4160 Tuesdays I believe quite often use the same base for a lot fo their fragrances which is why you might think they are all related i suppose. I haven't disliked any of the ones i've tried though there are one or two i havent managed to sample yet so perhaps ont he perfume day i'll pick up samples of those ones

mrsMartell i am a big fan of ghost deep night, i have had a bottle non stop since it first came ont he market, i just find it so comforting. I have yet to try paris though it sounds like something i might like

Mrsmartell08 · 30/06/2017 14:37

Thanks vintage...i had a huge cream eclair in his memory 😁

Do let us kbiwnwgat viloet eyes is like...i hax.ti sit in my hands last night to stop myself ordering more ET 😣

Mrsmartell08 · 30/06/2017 14:40

Re paris...there is something in there that I really dislike...i think its cherry but I can't find that in the notes for this fragrance...🤔

Mrsmartell08 · 30/06/2017 14:51

...and so sorry about your cat)

Mrsmartell08 · 30/06/2017 15:02

Sigh

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 30/06/2017 15:19

HysterectomyHysteria · 30/06/2017 15:33

I wore my ET passion last night and it now smells terrible on me (post Hysterectomy). If anyone wants a free practically full 30ml bottle let me know and I will post it out to you.

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 30/06/2017 15:50

hysterectomy if no one else asks for it, i'd love to try it and the proviso that if i don't like ti or it doesn't suit me, i'll pass it on to someone else. very kind of you to offer it out Thanks

MrsCocoa · 30/06/2017 17:58

VP Very sorry to hear there's not better about your cat. Sad

HysterectomyHysteria · 30/06/2017 20:37

Onenight, deal! Pm me your address and I will post it on Monday.
On to the 4160 tasters,
Up the apples and pears, very sweet and not very strong. Will be revisiting.

Sunshine and pancakes, lovey cheery scent. Will be revisiting.

Maxed out- 'interesting' very limey.

Rome 1964, I don't know what I think. Will try again in a few days.

Sex goddess, very fruity. I think that I like it a lot.

Black velvet cafe - made my daughter retch, my husband exclaimed "that smells fucking awful" And my son came into the kitchen where I was while wearing it to find out what the awful smell was.
I liked it though! Leather and dusty books. Blush
