I looked out my old bottle of Lou Lou, i used to douse myself with it in the 80s, it hums to high heaven.

My mum had a bottle of Passion, very of its time. I went on a school trip to Paris in 1988 and the entire frontage of Galeries Lafayette had a picture of Elizabeth Taylor, advertising it.

He is pretty tall but not Scottish and you'd probably say 'who' if i named him, but his band were massive.

It sounds right up my street if fragrantica is to be believed...

Not a million miles away from Poison or perhaps the purple bottles are confusing me.

Guerlain's Purple Fantasy came in a lovely bottle but unfortunately the juice didn't live up to it.

hysterectomy -please come and tell us what you think when the 4160s arrive. I'd be really interested.

Floofy - They didn't have much longevity, which I was quite pleased about. I didn't get anything nice from Sunshine and Pancakes at all. Shazam and Sexiest Scent had a quite similar undertone to them for me. They were 'fine' at best. I don';t know enough about perfume to be able to identify what it is that I don't like. To me, they smell cheap and I know they're not. I'm willing to say it's my unsophisticated nose but they're not for me.

There is no guarantee it's been stored correctly of course...

I know what you mean...im not very sophisticated in my tastes either...i really don't like a lot of the raved about scents and fragrance houses; for example guerlian...i only like mitsuoko!
And the least said about the new pink minger trend the better!!🤢

HH - you shouldn't worry about your 4160 purchases. They are artisan made from quality ingredients by a quirky and characterful niche house. If they are not to your taste, someone else will snap them up on eBay, or perhaps do a swap with you here.

And in the process you will have found out a bit more about your taste? Why we like some things and not others is a really interesting question...perhaps partly about our personal aesthetics, partly about what you want your perfume to do (Entertain? Provoke? Soothe? Make you think? Give you confidence? Cover bad smells etc etc...), and partly about wider trends (fashion?) ....

What do you all think? Our tastes seem to change with time - what drives that evolution?

SOTD was J'Adore. Switched to Apres L'ondee tonight. Relieved the hot weather has let up so I can wear some of my non-summery perfumes

mrsm ha ha, I think he smells of vetiver. Maybe the Diptyque one.

Discussing perfume with my sister it's clear that I have always liked the same notes...musk, powder, rose, woods, spice...
I wouldn't wear obsession anymore but loved it at 18. In fashion back then maybe??
I still love some of the avon classics I grew up with...im wearing soft musk to bed :)
I occasionally find a new scent i like...valentino poudre, narciso poudree....but I would say I still like the same notes but am not as swayed by fashion iyswim?

Think I'm still drawn to lots of the same sorts of smells, but also now enjoy things I'd've formerly rejected (shamefully, often because of old lady connotations ). Youth Dew being an example; bit like olives; quite a grown up taste? Previously would've spat out, now find moreish?

mrsmartell- thanks, I will try to find the time. I find it hard to try lots of scents at the same time and make a judgement but will give it a try if I can make it to London.

Maybe now is a good moment to raise the topic of Evil Fragrance Twins?

Evil Fragrance Twin (EFT): someone who loves all the perfumes you hate, and vice versa. EFTs can be useful — you follow them around and try whatever they can't stand.

My EFT would adore jasmine, and especially when it's with ylang ylang (that's not an envy face!)

My EFT is my sister!!.
She likes the exact opposite of me....sickly florals and pink mingers! 😝
