MrsC Luca is your job Grin Every problem has a solution.

Calminaqualm · 23/06/2017 06:15

Back in February I had problems when trying to order samples from Andy Tauer's website. I emailed him and had a very charming personal response from him. He had just agreed to give Les Senteurs exclusive selling rights in the U.K.! I haven't looked recently, but couldn't find a way of ordering decent sample sizes from Les Senteurs. I think they will do very small ones on request, but it's quite expensive once you take postage into account. My plan is to visit the shop when I have sufficient funds (!). If you haven't been, I do recommend it. My sister and I spent a very pleasant couple of hours there last year sampling, with the help of a knowledgeable sales assistant. But I did come away with some perfume I love and some extra samples.

Yves Rocher used to make a honeysuckle fragrance, Chevrefeuille. I have a vintage bottle and it is delightfully true to the flower, but fairly light, lasting 2-3 hours. It occasionally comes up on Ebay.

MrsCocoa · 23/06/2017 06:29

Thank you for giving me a reason Pest Grin. For those unable to join us, Les Senteurs carry a limited range in the UK, including a few samples. Perhaps this could be a third outing?

MrsCocoa · 23/06/2017 06:32

Sorry Calmina crossed - you can now order some Tauer samples online -£3.50-£5 plus postage. Limited choice.

VintagePerfumista · 23/06/2017 06:42

Oi! If you're meeting up with Andy (and Luca) anywhere, I'm in. Grin

I can get Tauer samples here (this must be a first, that in the Arse End of Nowhere I can acquire something you lot can't!) They don't have everything, but they do have samples and ship to the UK.

www.allaviolettaboutique.com/eng/marchi/195-andy-tauer.aspx

Trust these people implicitly- the wonderful Frugal (is she here still under a n/c? Flowers put me onto them and the last time I ordered my stuff arrived the day after- unheard of in Italy!)

Alternatively, I am coming to the UK in 10 days time I'd be quite happy to bring anything over...not sure what UK shipping charges are. PM me if you would like anything from this mahoosive site!

I have some samples of Ealing Green but have not got around to testing. Sounds like I might like it.

Was reading an article on Fragrantica this morning about how people disparage our perfume by saying it smells like cat-wee/loo-cleaner/old lady etc. I think we should ask for Pink Minger to be officially put on that list!

I am venturing out shortly (it's 35 in the shade and I try not to...but I have errands to run sadly) and will try to photograph The Bush. (sounds a bit smutty) I'll google those mentioned and see if the identikit fits. Even dp's friend who works in a plant nursery just says "dunno" Hmm

No SoTD yet, am still in pyjamas.

MrsCocoa · 23/06/2017 07:40

Absolutely VP - alright if we put you down for the milk? Grin. Was just idly thinking that the place to catch everyone would be a trade exhibition...and then even more idly wondering what our combined buying power amounts to? We might out-strip some small department stores? Grin.

Mrsmartell08 · 23/06/2017 08:11

I pick up my avon stash today!!
Dh off today as going to US with work tomorrow so I suppose I ought to spend some time with him...

VintagePerfumista · 23/06/2017 09:46

I went for vintage Paris as I tried some snail gel on my face and it had a very strong smell so I needed something to offset the Eau du Snail Grin

I collected my latest Avon- soaps, Wynken, Blinken and Nod from my childhood. Smile

ThreeForAPound · 23/06/2017 10:15

I need to get into this vintage Avon thing! It sounds like good fun Grin.

SOTD 4160's New York 1955. One of my happy smells.

Deathraystare · 23/06/2017 10:53

Well I at last bought Yardley's Jade after it being recommended onhere so much. I was excited to read it was a Chypre. Well, now I have smelt it. I am used to stronger smellies but I think this will do me in this heat (along with SJP's Lovely). While I was in Boots and found the Yardley section I bought 2 body sprays 1) Bluebell and 2) Lily of the Valley. I am keeping the Lily of the Valley at work for when I either forget to put perfume on or haven't brought it for occasional spritzes or I get hot and sweaty!

MrsCocoa · 23/06/2017 11:32

Have just opened the back door to gusts of the most perfect rose. I have a flowering cherry tree which is pretty boring for the rest of the year so have grown a climbing rose through it. |This year the rose has gone nuts - looks completely spectacular in full bloom spread throughout a mature tree. And its fragrance fills the whole garden Smile.

Pestilentialone · 23/06/2017 21:02

Crabtree & Evelyn have a 40% off sale.

MaryLennoxsScowl · 24/06/2017 11:01

I've been away from the thread for ages and have spent the last couple of days catching up. If anyone remembers, I was hunting for a fresh garden/herby scent for my wedding day and having fun trying lots of different things! In the end, I decided to pick on the day and wound up with Portrait of a Lady - not a green fresh scent at all but after a bit of a love/hate relationship with the sample over a few months it had magically blossomed in warmer weather on my skin - weirdly most people say it is a winter scent but in winter it seemed too incensey to me. It went beautifully with the roses in my flower crown and felt right on the day. Now I just need to save for years to get a bottle so I can wear it whenever I want!

I have bought Tauer samples from Les Senteurs - the samples are small and cost about £3.50 each.

MaryLennoxsScowl · 24/06/2017 11:02

Currently browsing the rest of the Tauer samples and considering another sample spree.

Puppylucky · 24/06/2017 11:12

Inspired to refresh my scent choices I have been trawling eBay and picked up mini bottles of Calyx, Aromatic Noir, Avon Little Gold Dress and Little Black Dress : hopefully something good on there as they are all blind buys - any experience gratefully received!

MrsCocoa · 24/06/2017 12:04

Did you have great day Mary? Now you need the right scent for married life Smile.

MaryLennoxsScowl · 24/06/2017 13:59

Yes, thanks, it was great though went by in a flash! Yes to married life scent too, that's a handy excuse! I'm going to a barbecue so might put on some Babylon Sunset to encourage the weather to cheer up - it's grey and very windy.

MrsCocoa · 24/06/2017 17:25

My Eau de Sid Smile arrived safely and is the real deal. VP - let me know when you're in residence here and I'll send some on. Had also ordered 10 ml Magie Noire which came helpfully labelled as Maggie. So, that's Sid and Maggie.

LittleMysMoominMamma · 24/06/2017 18:01

Hello, sorry to drop in with a quick quick question, but do those that like Bronze Goddess buy the EDP or Eau Fraiche? Thanks

VintagePerfumista · 24/06/2017 20:34

Grin loving Sid and Maggie.

I will be there in 10 days time, I will PM nearer the time. Started sorting my rejects this afternoon- I will make a list before I set off, and anyone can have anything.

I am in Atelier Cologne Grand Neroli. It's a lush neroli (obvs) bit stronger orange than most nerolis, but I expect it will have disappeared within an hour like most of the Ateliers I have tried so far.

Moomin- I have only smelled the original Bronze Goddess- I imagine the Eau Fraiche is much lighter, but don't know.

Mary- hello! Glad you decided and had a lovely perfumed day!

I have been reading about the perfume exhibition thingy at Somserset house. Will definitely try and slip into town for that while am in Kent. Especially intrigued by their scent-for-each-decade bit and wondering if I would have chosen the same ones. Definitely would NOT have chosen Giorgio for the 80s as although I get it was another in-your-face monster, I think Obsession and Poison are both more iconic as they truly did change what perfume was, and could be, like them or not.
