VintagePerfumista · 13/06/2017 09:59

Oh Floofy, lie on the sofa and read perfume websites! That's an order!

Isn't the Molecule thingy the one that you can't smell on yourself, only other people can smell it? Or some such strangeness?

Badders123 · 13/06/2017 10:36

Im not feeling great floofy but thanks for asking 😚

Morning all. Happy Birthday to Badders DS. Smile Badders, Floofy and Judy hope you are all on the mend and manage to get some rest Flowers, and the very best of luck to all exam-taking DC.

Badders my vintage Lace turned up safely yesterday and it is lovely. Such a pretty, powdery, delicate floral, and as cheap as chips too. It really deserves to be far better known. Thank you very much for leading me astray - baa, baa, baa! Is there any/much difference between the vintage Yardley and the modern Taylor of London version, does anyone know?

I'm also hoping to get to Somerset House next month. It sounds like there might be quite a few of us.Smile

I've never tried or smelt Molecule 01 but I also believe it to be a weird thing that you can't smell yourself but that others are meant to rhapsodise about - to which I say sod that - I put perfume on for me to enjoy!

Floofy by all means buy perfume to celebrate the cat's birthday but for you! She won't appreciate it, you will, and she'll get some when you cuddle her anyway. One of ours is really an interloping Six Dinner Sid from next door and NDN have commented that he smells (pleasantly) of DD's perfumes when he pops home to compare which house has the better grub on offer.

SOTD is vintage Y - gloriously summery, green and mossy. I don't detect anything sweet in it at all, so Vintage don't give up on it before you've tried an older sample.

I think MN perfumistas going to Somerset House need to have a secret signal so they can recognise each other. Is the MN scarf still "a thing?" Wink I had one of those. Of course though you will recognise each other as you will be the best smelling women in the room!

I have a 14 yr old too (the one that had her phone confiscated this morning) GOT cupcakes sound amazing Badders, a few years ago I made One Direction cupcakes for a different DD to take to school, was one of my finest parenting moments Grin

Yes, Molecule is the one you can't smell but it meant to mimic pheromones or something. I think I will get a sample. For research for this thread, you understand! It can be a birthday present to my cat, green, I like your style :)

I'm not sure how New Lace will smell different from Old Lace but when my parcel turns up I will duly report...of course mine hasn't turned up today in keeping with how my day is going!

Dlpdep · 13/06/2017 17:21

Molecule 01 is total and utter emperors new clothes. It smells the exact same on everyone - of nothing really. I think you may need to layer it with something else.

OCSockOrphanage · 13/06/2017 17:58

Molecule 01 today, coincidentally! And nary a comment, much less being accosted. But it's only a sample 2ml and it won't be replaced so no harm done. But as I went to the big city, I had a little cruise to see what was new. Sampled the Eau des Merveilles Bleu, which is quite fresh and ozonic in a lavender-oolong vein (VERY similar to the Eau Parfumée au Thé Bleu) and Un Bois Vanillé, which is heady with vanilla and much better in autumn than on a lovely summer day, unless you want to riff on ice cream. Should have gone to Hermes!

VintagePerfumista · 13/06/2017 18:20

Taylor's Tweed and Panache are not as fabulous as Lentheric (was it?) They smell very sour to me. Cheap as chips mind.

Can I have a fragrant handhold? The bloody fussy ironing-board-sleeping cat has gone missing! Last seen at 2 am when I let the bugger out. He has never been gone this long. We have just been to the catlady in the villa next door who says he often pops in for some dinner (trollop that he is) but she hasn't seen him today. Am going to have to go out under cover of night and ferret in people's garages. DD begins her exams tomorrow and keeps saying "when he comes back we must keep him in" and I keep thinking "if he comes back" Sad

GreenPolishToGo · 13/06/2017 18:43

Ohh, Vintage hand held firmly and all fingers crossed for the wanderer's return. Could he be shut in somewhere? It's definitely worth door-knocking.

DD's cat vanished on her 18th birthday last year and I was tearing my hair out metaphorically while keeping up the pretence she had just nipped out to enjoy the sunshine. The cat finally turned up that evening indignant, dusty and hungry just minutes after we had asked various neighbours to check their shed and garages, so I'm sure she'd got herself locked in.

Fortunately, by the time DD came home from celebrating with friends our wanderer was stuffing her face so DD never knew her best beloved had gone walkabout. I do hope your one is back safely soon.

Vintage - hope Dcat turns up very soon. Have found a lost cat by following yowling sounds to someone's lock-up (having spent a day and a half tramping the neighbourhood rattling a box of biscuits and making ridiculous call noises ...).

Somerset House: we need our own special lapel badges in the style of those lovely old brass ones some perfume houses used to make (eBay collectables Wink).

SotD: Paris 1948 - oakmoss and peach. Moss seemed to come to the 'fore today. Great longevity.

ThreeForAPound · 13/06/2017 19:41

I'm wearing Creed Spring Flower today. Its a musky jasmine affair with a strange but not unpleasant chemical-ish whiff.

I can't smell 'spring flowers' at all, or the supposed fruity notes in there. But its a nice change from my usual.

Hope your cat turns up, Vintage Sad.

Badders - hope you're on the mend.

And hello all :-)

ThreeForAPound · 13/06/2017 19:41

Love the idea of a secret sign at Somerset House Grin

MrsCocoa · 13/06/2017 21:34

Hope things improve Floofy - have also just impounded someone's phone....

Bucking the Lace trend, but perhaps there's a subliminal influence as I've just found a little unopened bottle of Houbigant's Chantilly on eBay.

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 13/06/2017 21:43

hello all

not feeling well at the moment so mostly unfragranced though i did have a good spritz of Signoricci this afternoon when i got in from sainsburys as i was so warm and it is amazing for cooling you down. I wish i had more of it, i stumbled across it in a bargain shop (savers for those who know of it) a few years ago and havent seen any since

Judydreamsofhorses · 13/06/2017 21:45

My sense of smell is returning - I still look and feel hellish though. Today was Tom Ford Grey Vetiver, which I bought for my partner a few years back, and he rarely wears (or any other fragrance).

badders, how are you doing? vintage I hope puss turns up soon. Hello, three.

On Molecule 01, I worked on the same floor as someone who wore it - I didn't know her, but accosted her to find out what it was. It came over quite figgy on her. Anyway, I ordered some, and it was a total waste of money - the only time I could ever smell it was when I took clothes out of the washing machine.

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 13/06/2017 21:48

and in shock, i looked up signoricci on ebay, idle curiosity of course and the same bottle i bought for a couple of pounds is going for EIGHTY POUNDS!!!!!!!! wow i didn't realise at all, maybe ill be a bit more careful with it from now on Grin

MrsCocoa · 14/06/2017 06:43

Thought Molecule 01 was just ISO E Super (and alcohol)? Does anyone know for sure? If so, there are cheaper ways of buying it...

MrsCocoa · 14/06/2017 06:52

Scarf Contender! Can anyone find anything nicer?

FloofyCat · 14/06/2017 07:15

Oh no vintage I hope your cat has reappeared. Ours does this once a year or so - just to keep us on our toes I think. Once I was almost at the point at putting up posters and she reappeared from my wardrobe Hmm

Fingers crossed for you, and good luck to all our exam sitters.

(Will discuss perfume later, and scarf challenge accepted MrsC Wink but had to respond to cat emergency. So nerve racking. Worse than the teens sometimes!)

OCSockOrphanage · 14/06/2017 13:08

Is your cat home, Vintage? Fingers crossed.

Terre d'Iris today, but Sel Marin might have been better. Later maybe...

Boglin · 14/06/2017 13:14

Hello all, I'm new to the thread but am a long-time scent lover. My dream is to visit les senteurs and create my own perfume so the 4160 Tuesdays event is verrrrry tempting. Will see if it's feasible. I'm still catching up but I hadn't realised until now that others thought of fragrances as colours too!

SOTD is Miller Harris Fleurs de Sel which is a bit on the masculine side for me but I do like it and it lasts well on me.

I've recently had a hankering for armani white which is discontinued, is there a pp dupe for it does anyone know? Or can anyone recommend a similar kind of scent? I bought Diesel Plus Plus on the fragrantica recommendations but it's a bit latexy and makes me feel a bit grubby!

Also interested in other recommendations for me to try. I seem to like powdery, fruity, floral scents. Jasmine smells appalling on me and L'air du temps smells like pine cleaner on me (but smells amazing on my mum). I'm partial to a gourmand too but nothing too vanilla.

Thanks in advance!

Mrsmartell08 · 14/06/2017 16:29
