Sick bay fist bump, badders. I actually called in sick on Friday because I was so ill, but must go in tomorrow. DP has got it too now, although obviously MUCH worse than me. Spare room for him tonight.

MrsCocoa · 11/06/2017 22:33

Onto my second wind Smile. Have got round to trying Black Velvet Cafe Vs Encre Noir. Both share enormous inky wood and musk notes, but BVC is plusher; rounded out with coffee and patchouli, EN features vetiver, and feels a bit reedier and thinner.

Calminaqualm · 11/06/2017 22:59

I do like an interesting bottle! I'm quite lucky because I am fond of sweet perfumes and many of the cheap ones, especially celeb ones, have attractive packaging. Many of them are good quality, too. Sarah Jessica Parker's NYC, for instance, has the wackiest colour scheme, and I also love the sweet strawberry candyflossy exuberant smell.

I have a couple of the Britney Spears ones, and the bottles, diamante-studded globes, are good fun. And of course there's Caribbean Joe, whose bottle is shaped like a piece of sugar cane.

I always keep my perfumes in their boxes. For me, it's part of the enjoyment, to select and open up the box. I've had to improvise when I've bought used perfumes and they've come unboxed. An empty gravy thickener carton holds Theo Fennell's Scent!

MrsCocoa · 11/06/2017 23:05

That's sacrilege Calmina! Although am finding Twining's speciality tea boxes work quite well.

Hope you're feeling better soon Judy.

Grin So....this year when I hit the UK I'm going to have to go stomping into Superdrug and ask to smell SJP aren't I? (I resent this enormously as I loathe the woman but am guessing she didn't mix it up in a saucepan herself- she has always been on my irrational hatred list - mainly for the self-aggrandizement and publicity- "most beautiful and stylish woman in the world" business...say what????!!!)

I am going to dig out my MF cat and see which I have. It is Chontrelle. (lol- now I have images of Vicky Pollard going "Chontrelle!!!! Yer dinner's on the table") It's foul - because it's gone off. I only acquired it because it was in a job lot. I think if I let the sour top notes pass it might dry down into a sharp chypre though.

SoTmorning is Y. I like the initial notes, and I like what it's now dried down to- quite musky and peppery. I don't like the sweet middle. Mind you, my sample is new, so I'm presuming there's been some hefty reformulating going on over the years and I imagine the older version will have a kick to it which is more me.

Now that school is out for the moment I intend to try far more of the zillions of untried samples in my stash.

Badders123 · 12/06/2017 10:11

Normally I wouldnt comment on another woman's appearance but her face looks like a neglected horse.
😖
Never could understand the fuss about her "style" either...
I'm on lace again (and on antibiotics again) so feeling sorry for myself.

Badders123 · 12/06/2017 10:24

My sister really likes SJP lovely...it's very floral

Calminaqualm · 12/06/2017 13:26

I believe SJP is one of the few celebrities who really gets involved in the design of "her" perfumes. Vintage, NYC is probably the most commercial of them. Try Covet, if you can get hold of it (it was discontinued for a while). It is the most deliciously light lavender lemon chocolate, with some flowers and a musky wood base. Or Stash, her latest. This is an uncompromisingly strong herby, incense and woods and lasts for ages.

Judydreamsofhorses · 12/06/2017 14:07

I still can't smell anything, so have opted for reliable Rive Gauche today. I definitely should not be at work, but as we're so close to the end of term everything is mad busy and I need to get students' work marked and resulted before the break. Urgh.

Badders, how are you feeling? Antibiotics always make me feel worse before I get better.

FloofyCat · 12/06/2017 14:07

I really rate SJPs stuff too, although yes she irritates me too, hated Sex in the City, plus isn't she married to Ferris Bueller? But her Lovely especially is, well, Lovely Grin love the salt note. Have also a secret love of Britney's Curious, smells more £££ than it is. Good choices for teens too I think. Vintage you're in the EU aren't you, will Royal Mail carry perfumes to you? If so I will gladly send you a SJP decant, CAT me if you like.

I will amuse you all by saying I was stopped today to ask what perfume I was wearing (hoorah but don't get too excited) - of all the beautiful scents I have (incl. lots recommended by you guys!) the one I was wearing today was the Bloody Katy Perry cat bottle one - laugh or cry? I do like it though, hence wearing it two days on the trot!

Green I hear your excitement over your cat perfume - congratulations Smile I had a peek at eBay to see what it was (looks fabulous, I need one. And the Caribbean Joe also mentioned!) and found you you can actually get perfume for cats. Funnily enough, it is my cat's birthday next week...

Seriously folks, perfume for cats. For show cats and things like that. One of them had these instructions "They are very economical and easy to use, simply spray the coat once or twice from a distance, avoiding the face, and brush through"

"Avoiding the face" GrinGrin I think if I tried that with my cat she would kill me in my sleep. She is already not speaking to me for buying the wrong cat food...

Badders123 · 12/06/2017 14:54

Shocking
I'm allergic to penicillin so I end up on wierd ones 🤢
Hope you are feeling better?
I have just had a nap
Waiting for the f2f to get home
Ds1 b day tomorrow and a party here for 20
Oh dear...

Badders123 · 12/06/2017 14:55

F2f?
Dc!

VintagePerfumista · 12/06/2017 14:59

My cat is currently sprawled on the ironing board which he has decided is his summer bed. Hmm. He is also the fussiest mog in christendom to the point I have to buy heart shaped little biscuits for cats "with difficult appetites" Hmm Not so difficult when we caught him on Friday with a bird's leg hanging out of his chops.

Thank you for the offer Floofy but in 2 weeks I will be hitting the UK's perfume emporia in a big way as I am coming over for 6 weeks of summer school. In timely fashion my new UK bank card arrived this morning!

SJP does have a horsey thing about her doesn't she? I'd never have noticed it but now you've said it Badders, I shall just expect her to throw her head back and neigh all the time. Reminds me of a (actually very attractive) girl I was at university with, who used to say "my mum says I look like a camel" Once she'd said it, and you looked at her, you couldn't help thinking "well....." Grin

Dlpdep · 12/06/2017 15:48

I do like SJP Lovely - on my second bottle so I will have to try the others. I'm after an incense type perfume but I want it to smell just of incense and nothing else and I'm not sure when or where I would wear it. To funerals perhaps! Grin

I think I have decided that blackberry is my cat pee note. I was sniffing Jo Malone dupes in a chemist at the weekend. The lime, Basil and mandarin seemed spot on. They had a blackberry and bay - I haven't sniffed the original so can't comment on how true to form it is, but it has that note in it that I don't like.

OCSockOrphanage · 12/06/2017 16:12

Vintage, I don't think Y smells as good in the middle anymore either; DH made a face and said "old lady juice"! My bottle must be 5-6 years old, but it's not as good as the first bottles I bought ($5) in TK Maxx in NYC in 1982.

SoTD has been Prada Iris, which is as reliably lovely as ever. Does it have a hit of cedar in there too? I know they did an Iris Cedre flanker, which was divine (but sadly all gone).

Badders123 · 12/06/2017 16:21

Im on a perfume buying ban this month which is making me very unhappy :(
I do so hope you like the white satin and lace green! Let me know when they arrive.

ThreeForAPound · 12/06/2017 17:58

Just catching up with the thread. But hello all!

I'm also on a perfume-buying ban this month so feeling mightily grumpy.

Have been in an indecisive mood about perfume lately, so have resorted to my comfort fragrances - lots of Estee Lauder, basically. Sensuous Nude at night and Pleasures Intense by day (which is quite strong but makes me feel strong and stable Grin).

I really want a proper sized bottle of J'Adore after abusing a 5 ml sample last week...but alas, my bank balance says No you addicted spendthrift idiot. Booooo.

MrsCocoa · 12/06/2017 18:05

Anyone been to the Somerset House thing yet?

ThreeForAPound · 12/06/2017 18:37

Desperate to go, MrsCocoa, but will have to wait until the summer holidays for me!

Calminaqualm · 12/06/2017 19:23

I'm going in mid-July. Really looking forward to it! We had to book a time - I don't think you can just turn up.

After discussing the Sarah Jessica Parker perfumes on here, I wore Covet this afternoon. Very pleasant, and distinctive, and lasts 4-5 hrs.

ThreeForAPound · 12/06/2017 19:33

Just got my sister to agree to booking for late July Grin

MrsCocoa · 12/06/2017 22:35

I want to smell SJP Stash Calmina - have see comparisons to CdG Wonderwood and TF Sahara Noir which bodes well.

Have booked the SH exhibition for late July. Between that, and our outing to 4160s for the makers workshop on Aug 12th, it's going to be a snifftastic summer.

Badders123 · 13/06/2017 07:44

My baby is 14 today 😣
I'm going to wear nightmusk which is what I wore when he was born
[Sniff]

VintagePerfumista · 13/06/2017 08:18

Aww, our babies are the same school year Badders. Dd will b e 14 in October and starts her middle school exams tomorrow.

In testing mode I am wearing Killian Bamboo Harmony. S'nice and fresh and summery, bit of a subtle cedary aftershavey twang (not a bad thing in summer) but predominantly sweetish watery tones.
Now I shall go and look what's really in it. Grin

Post-review reading: Yup...nice sweet summery seems to be the consensus. NST says "neither Bamboo Harmony or Water Caligraphy can be accused of being "interesting" (I was thinking, on the back of the other thread, "nobody is going to stop me in the street and ask what I'm wearing, but anyone coming close will think "she smells clean and fresh, perhaps she's just had a shower" Grin

FloofyCat · 13/06/2017 08:30

Happy Birthday BaddersBaby Grin Are you feeling any better?

Three the Perfume Parlour J'Adore (think it's called Jadoor or something) is pretty good, it's not as close as some of their dupes but for the price it's close enough for me :) Should I stop egging you on?

The Somerset House thing does look so interesting, look forward to a trip advisor style review on here by anyone going Smile

Liking the sound of cat biscuits for difficult cats - my cat got under my crutches (whilst giving me a Fuck You Look) and nearly sent me flying in the kitchen yesterday then slept on DD's bed (she is always normally on mine). I have just hastily ordered her "usual" cat food to avoid any further reprisals like killing me in my sleep.

Right. I need something very very good scent wise today. Maths GCSE here today so a grumpy DC, another DC has been so rude and surly I took their phone off them before 7.30am, someone has nicked my card details and withdrawn money from my account (bank refunding it but my card has to be cancelled hence my shopping delivery for today was cancelled as I didn't think to change payment Angry) and I fell off the pavement yesterday and jarred my back. Ouch. My spine is already falling apart and I was being a bit foolish carrying stuff I shouldn't, DH has sensibly generously not referred to my foolishness but it's kind of an elephant in the room. And my GP wants to see me re my latest bloods. It's only Tuesday!

So. What scent can overcome all this? I'm hoping my vintage Lace will arrive but with the day I'm having, it will probably have turned Grin

Just reading the "what perfumes have you been complimented on" and there is a lot of love for Molecule 1 - I still can't believe I have never tried this one! We have probably discussed it before so apologies for my sieve like memory, but what do people think of it?
