Products from the past

Thought I'd start a nostalgic thread about products from the past, after being reminded about Timotei. Used to lose that stuff. They had great commercials too. VO5 apparently doesn't exist in shops like it used to.

I think the most iconic commercial was the flake in the bath one, where it overflows.

VO5 Hot Oil Treatment.

Stick the tiny tube in a cup of hot water, smear it over your hair, leave for a few minutes and then shampoo and condition as normal. VO5 products recommended, of course.

Boots did a coconut scented, leave in conditioner. Miss that.

Thank you OC! That's the one, and thanks for the heads up on Burt's Bees one.

Anne French cleansing milk is great, and so was their face mask which was chalky and worked very well on my greasy teenage skin.

Body Shop kiwi lip balm

Body Shop coconut hair gel

Badedas bath salts

Lynx Oriental - all the boys used this at secondary school

Does anyone use CK1 any more? It seemed like all the boys used this in sixth form

Constance Carroll lipglosses - like syrupy glue but tasted gorgeous!
I remember Salon Selectives - the adverts are on YouTube - serious blast from the past!
Glints semi permanents hair colour.
L'Oreal freestyle mousse
Impulse Gypsy - anyone else remember it - in a pink can - loved it.
Prescriptive make up and skin care - still mourning loss of super flight cream.

M&S Forest Fern - smelled like lime, it was gorgeous
M&S also did a range in white bottles/tubes with blue writing. The body wash and bodyscrub were fabulous but best of all was the perfume. Originally in an oval flat frosted bottle, then a cylindrical frosted glass bottle

Yardley ESP mascara was the best on my rather scabby eyelashes

Topaz shampoo and conditioner

Olenaswimple I was standing behind someone in a queue today who was wearing CK1, it took me right back to 1994!!

Badedas bath salts seem to end up on the tombola at every school fair, probably recycled from the original era.

That Ten-0-Six stuff that someone mentioned was the business. So harsh, but my skin looked great when I used it and I loved the smell.

Liked Anne French cleansing milk too, mainly because it was so pleasant to use. Not sure if did much for me though.

Can anyone remember the pump hairspray that was around briefly in the early-mid 90s? You had to pump the canister up and down loads and then spray it. Have a feeling it was a bit shit but can't remember.

Organics shampoo.

Natrel Plus deodorant.

The Body Shop raspberry ripple bubble bath (way too sickly but everyone had some anyway) and black cherry lip balm.

Cosmetics to Go.

molly - I have to say, I find it a very attractive smell in a reminding-me-of-burgeoning-teenage-hormones-and-first-kisses type of way...!

Thinking hair products, was arguing with DH as I'm sure hair wax was a thing

If you had someone who knew how to perm, the smell of the products in your kitchen. Being excited if you were on roller duty.

Boots natural collection marshmallow conditioner (possibly marshmallow and something else). Smallish bottle of bright pink gloop that turned my frizz into lovely curls. Still look for it whenever I'm in a branch of Boots in case it's made a reappearance!
Salon Selectives shampoo and conditioner (like you just stepped out of a salon!).
Badedas shower gel - used to use it on holiday and it smelt of pine trees.

I used a cheap and cheerful brand called Outdoor Girl when I first started wearing make up in the late 80s early 90s. I loved the little foundation compact you applied with a sponge.

I used to use No 7 foundation that came in a small canister that I vaguely remember as being like a metallic stainless steel and it was a mousse foundation. Came out of the canister like hair mousse but was foundation. It would have been around in the early 1990's. I wish I could find a picture of the product but I've scoured the internet and come up blank! Smile

The orange and yellow shampoo from the eighties that you shook up was called Once and it was made by Supersoft,

Things I remember:

Just Musk Perfume

Limara Body Spray

The original Impulse sprays from the eighties

Boots 17 Sweet Sizzle lipstick

Miners Mulberry lipstick

Love lemon cleanser (first cleanser I bought when I was about twelve in 1973)

Three Wishes bath foam

Wella Lemon shampoo - in the days when all shampoos were for dry, normal and greasy hair.

Flex shampoo and conditioner

Boots 17 Shimmer Glimmer face powder

I could go on but far too many to list :)

Everyone had these scented plastic ballet shoes from Avon that you hung in your wardrobe to make your clothes smell nice. They smelled gorgeous.

Also, Little Blossom perfume and 'make up' for girls from Avon.
