Thought I'd start a nostalgic thread about products from the past, after being reminded about Timotei. Used to lose that stuff. They had great commercials too. VO5 apparently doesn't exist in shops like it used to.

I think the most iconic commercial was the flake in the bath one, where it overflows.

Linco beer shampoo. I used to love the stuff, combined shampoo and conditioner before that was a 'thing'!

Also banana conditioner from the Body Shop

WonderMike · 29/03/2017 09:12

Bristows hairspray from 1985 when it smelt like heaven and also was entirely responsible for the hole in the ozone layer would stick your hair in an amazingly gravity defying manner for days.

Greycat11 · 29/03/2017 11:58

Flex shampoo, bright yellow with a lovely smell

Deathraystare · 29/03/2017 12:15

You can sometimes still get Revlon's flex in cheap chemists`

I used to love the beer shampoo but then it did not work and made my hair lanky.

I loved the Bronnley lemon soaps and the Yardley Sea Jade ones. I also like Sunsilk shampoo.

CoolCarrie · 29/03/2017 12:40

I used to like the little pot of nail treatment, can't remember the name, the stuff was pink and you rubbed into your nails to make them stronger and shiner. Can't find it anywhere now.

Apricot scrub...massive chunks of wood in a pleasant-smelling paste! I can't actually remember if it was any good though!

honeylou42 · 29/03/2017 13:24

Charlie Red Perfume Smile

OCSockOrphanage · 29/03/2017 13:25

Nailoid Results, Carrie? I have some in a drawer, just need to remember to use it. The Burt's Bees Lemon manicure cream is good too.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 29/03/2017 13:26

Sandalwood oil from the Body Shop. Also Finesse shampoo - that stuff was lovely.
Marks did a Bergamot range in about 1987 which I absolutely adored.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 29/03/2017 13:27

Gap "Om" perfume

SeaLionsOnMyShirt · 29/03/2017 13:31

Timotei & Flex - I loved both of those. Does anyone remember a funny two colour shampoo from the late 80s as well, think it was orange/green or red/yellow and you had to shake it to mix it up? I keep thinking it was a Silvikrin one but may be wrong.

I also really miss Revlon Skinlights, I can't believe they discontinued that. I am down to my last tube bought in Australia about 10 years ago which I'm sure can't be good for me, but I do love the effect it gives.

Also - Bergasol suncream, I miss that - the smell reminds me of holidays as a kid. I have to stock up when I go abroad now, but it's becoming harder to find even in France or Holland.

fiveohclockandallswell · 29/03/2017 13:54

Any of the herbal shampoos of the past, today's fruit scented ones mostly smell like rotting food in a wheelie bin to me Confused
The Timotei with orange and mint was lovely.

1960s Ambre Solaire oil was gorgeous, now it smells just ordinary, blah.
Bonne Bell 10-06 used to be a real blast to the senses, now ditto, its just bland.
Cinnamon toothpaste, not sure who made it.
Pine (spruce) fizzy bath tablets, glorious.

ChishandFips33 · 29/03/2017 14:01

Silvikirin shampoo was great for my fine hair - and the beer one!

Camay soap

Dewberry oil from the bodyshop

Wash in shampoos in the little foul packets Smile

Bodyshhop still do banana shampoo and conditioner Maugrim

jasmine1979 · 29/03/2017 14:11

Agree about the Ten o Six pore lotion. This stuff was so harsh but I loved it as a teen.

Also the vidal sassoon shampoo in brown bottles in the 90s. Smelt of marzipan. So lovely. Smile

Nicky clarke hairomatherapy. It came in tall metal bottles and again smelt divine. I think this must have been early 2000's? The thickening range was amazing and I've never been able to find a replacement that matches it.

Yes, Flex shampoo. If you washed your hair with it, people would fight to sit next to you at school, it smelled so good.
Boots 17 Black Cherry lipstick. It suited absolutely everyone. Whatever colour your skin tone, it made your mouth look natural and gorgeous. We used to pass it round our group of friends and everyone from the whitest skinned blonde to the Nigerian girl looked great in it.

ZaZathecat · 29/03/2017 14:39

Oh yes that Linco Beer shampoo - came in it's own little beer keg!

SeaLionsOnMyShirt · 29/03/2017 14:48

Hairomatherapy - my DM still has the silver/metal bottles of mine, probably from about 15 years ago in her bathroom that she washes out & then refills with her usual shampoo/conditioner today as they go with the decor in the bathroom! (wierd DM).

ShesAStar · 29/03/2017 14:55

Jasmine, I remember using Ten-0-six! It was so strong, like cleansing with acid!

I miss Seaweed and Birch shampoo from Bidy Shop, it smelt divine and made my hair so shiny!

ShesAStar · 29/03/2017 14:55

Body Shop not Bidy!

mollyblack · 29/03/2017 15:19

Daily Defense shampoo and conditioner were great.

I still use a lipstick almost identical to the black cherry one!

FairytalesAreBullshit · 29/03/2017 15:46

Trying to think what the names of the popular colours were for lipsticks, I remember there being 2 that everyone adored, they always had more of it that any other.

I also remember being too old but using my sisters bubblegum flavoured toothpaste. To make me all the more kissable.

Believing on a hot day putting lemon juice in your hair would turn it blonde from black. I have a horror story to tell after a friend suggested I get hair dyes from AfroCarribean beauty shops.

Nivea seems to have stayed.

Wash & Go in the green bottles, actually green inside looking like snot.

Coal tar soap or was it pear tree soap that to me smelled gorgeous.

Believing that Clearasil would give you supermodel clear skin. When really sudocrem is the best thing for spots.

I remember my sisters having stars in a gel, they'd then put it from the corner of their eyes going up. Then a shit tonne of glitter. Or roll on glitters.
