I would love my sons to associate me with a signature scent....I'm working on it! 😀

VintagePerfumista · 02/05/2017 07:25

Oooh MrsC, the vintage Avons are magnificent! I always save those on my ebay list but rarely find anyone prepared to send to Italy. I love all of those on your list. Did you get them? I am hanging my nose over some Moonwind soaps and sets I have never seen in Europe over on Ebay.com, postage is $$$$ though. And for 3 bars of soap I will just gaze lovingly at....I think it's Occur! that Barbara H says smells like a little girl mixed all her mum's perfumes together. (I think she's mistaken it for Fracas Grin)

Justaweeone- aaaaargh. I didn't realise feelunique did samples. I often get skincare from them. They ship free to Italy god love them.

Hysterectomy- I last smelled Heritage in August (in a priest's bedroom- which I never tire of saying, it makes me sound so very Thorn Birds) and it still smelled fabulous.

Dream- I think whatever scent we want our children to associate us with, won't be- not us perfume ho-ars anyway! When I bemoaned to dd that she had given me the Ateliers that I didn't actually like that much (or may, once winter hits again) she said "Oh, I gave you all the heavy stinky ones that are like the perfumes you usually wear" Hmm I wore Paris yesterday and she asked what it was, I said "do you like it?" she said "it's not as bad as your usual ones"

Speaking of which- she wore the Atelier Mandarin something yesterday and it was lovely- in the way of TFs though, (I wore Neroli P for about 20 minutes on Saturday till it disappeared completely) Very very very nice- and oddly, I would never have said it was orangey based- to me it seemed more "aqua" . It had gone within an hour though,. so in answer to a pp, I don't reckon they're probably worth the £££s. (If anyone wants a Neroli Portofino-alike that's not Perfume Parlour, try the Yves Rocher Neroli, I got 2 good sized bottles absolutely free (YR has mad offers where the first thing you put in your basket is free, a couple of handcreams and body lotions and as the perfume carefully went in first, ta-da)

VintagePerfumista · 02/05/2017 07:26

Just saw Green's post- I had missed a page- yes, that's the Mandarin that dd wore yesterday! My favourite Atelier so far.

VintagePerfumista · 02/05/2017 07:31

I think our children will have some scents associated with us though- I associate some scents with all of you and I don't even know what you look like! I associate 19 with Judy, Knowing with Badders, fabulous things I've never heard of with Frugal who I would wager is responsible for many of our "scarves of a thousand scents" in the first place! (I love that btw, so evocative!)

My Mum wore many different perfumes- Caleche, Miss Dior and Emeraude probably the ones I remember most from childhood. But I firmly believe perfume memories can be so fleetingly hardwired that our poor children will wander round with 5,000 memories each of us.

Sheesh I'm going on this morning.

ADisappearingDreamOfYesterday · 02/05/2017 08:48

I love scarf of a thousand scents! It would make a very good perfume thread title, wouldn't it? Grin

It's interesting about the perfume associations and other peoples' thoughts on it. I know it's slightly morbid but it's been on my mind the last couple of years, I think due to being ill but also (being vague as don't want to out DC) one of my DC has SN including a sensory loss and seems to have a very well developed sense of smell (that old clichè about other senses compensating Wink) so if I say wear a perfume once for a special occasion then wear it again, he will recognise it and make the association.

I do think I have a "hardcore" collection (Chanel no 5 EP, Paloma Picasso, Anais Anais and possibly Paris now Grin) which they generally might associate with me.

SOTD Velvet Orchid, still poorly so this feels a bit luxe-y. I cannot see any reason for this but it's reminding me of J Lo's Deseo?! Will have to have a delve to see if it shares anything, or my sense of smell might just be scrambled ATM!

Badders123 · 02/05/2017 08:58

I'm wearing knowing today vintage!
How funny 😂😀

I've missed out on the e bay shalimar however I shall not give up!

OCSockOrphanage · 02/05/2017 09:22

My favourite scented item is my watchband. It carries wafts of everything but the overall result is divine.

SoTD is Ile de Thé, Annick Goutal, which is not a million miles from the Bvlgari Eau Parfumée au Thé vert, (one of my FBs). Neither lasts very long though.

MrsCocoa · 02/05/2017 12:06

Yes VP for the starting price Grin. Realising I do really like the trying out and getting to know a new perfume stage more than the initial research, thrill of the chase or the settling down with a full bottle of something perfectly lovely. So 14 vintage bottles is very exciting (even if I only end up liking a small number).

And on children/mortality - funnily enough my teen has been talking about this (and how she plans to use/dispose of my collection - ouch!)

We must call our next thread Scarf of a Thousand Scents.
I am in safe old PP Prada Infusion d'Iris, am hot, sweaty and need a shower so it makes me feel clean until I can do that.

(MIL's country house again yesterday- no donkey in sight- chicken and beef )

Badders123 · 02/05/2017 12:59

I've been at it again 😀
Scent searching that is!
Went into town unexpectedly and I had a ramble on the guerlain, Estée Lauder and Chanel counters.
Chanel is definitely NOT for me!
Wrt guerlain - Not a fan of the aqua allegorias tbh - the bergamot one is ok.
Quite like L'instant - very subtle.
Insolence is vile - I like violets but gosh it's so strong!
I quite liked Estée Lauder sensuous nude
The new tresor is interesting....top note of raspberry which I thought was rather nice.
I need to go further afield and try l'heure blueue and narcisso poudre!!
I'm so tempted by an eBay oscar de la renta!! 😀

Badders123 · 02/05/2017 13:32

I'm spending far too much time on fragrantica.com 🙄😀
It seems I need to try apres londee too?
Hmmm
I've sent for a sample of narcisso...I'm too impatient!

Badders123 · 02/05/2017 13:35

The noise behind l'instant is the nose behind isphahan By yves rocher!

Badders123 · 02/05/2017 13:39

Also had a spray of Estée by Estée Lauder...my late aunt wore this when I was a child and it brought a smile to my lips.
RIP Audrey x

Badders123 · 02/05/2017 13:49

I've just ordered a sample of l'instant too

Can one of you stop me please?
😂😂

Ollivander84 · 02/05/2017 14:03

SOTD - al rehab soft

OCSockOrphanage · 02/05/2017 14:19

Scarf of thousand scents is an excellent choice for the next thread when we need it. Just hope the person who kicks it off remembers!

Badders123 · 02/05/2017 15:01

More bids on eBay...
I've also ordered more cashmere by next....apparently it's an Estée Lauder sensuous nude dupe! 😀
It's so funny how I'm now seeing all the fragrances I love/have loved are connected!

Dlpdep · 02/05/2017 17:09

There is something in the Estée Lauder that I don't like. My mum wears pleasures - that's her perfume. I've tried loads of them, beautiful smells rank on me and lovely on others, I had intuition years ago, have white linen, have a sensuous tester, and on and on. There is something about them all that is.....synthetic?hard? ......that I don't like at all. That's what's holding me back from Bronze goddess, though I love a whiff of it.

Badders123 · 02/05/2017 17:17

Knowing is the only Estée Lauder I really like.
Cinnabar is gorgeous but very very heavy - too heavy for me.
My aunt wore various Estée Lauder scents for years...I suppose I associate Estée Lauder with glamour - my aunt was a bit of a glamour puss 😀
Oh, and in other news...
Did you know in 2015 Nivea made an eau de toilette!!
OH
MY
GOD
I cannot tell you how much I love the scent of Nivea!!
But it was only ever available in Austria and Germany! 😞😞😞😞😞
Dh is going to Germany on 29th...he has been instructed! 😂

Calminaqualm · 02/05/2017 19:49

Badders, Perfume Parlour do a Nivea smell-alike. I've no idea if it's good or not, but the reviews seem good.

I have been wearing 4160Tuesday's Silk, Lace & Chocolate. I wanted something rich and long-lasting as a contrast to the delightful but fleeting Ateliers I've been testing. The SLC is a non-sweet chocolate strawberry with a bit of citrus and some underlying hefty notes. I understand that there's quite a bit of patchouli in there, although I can't smell it. It lasts 4-5 hours on me. It's going on my "Must Get a Bigger Bottle" list!

Badders123 · 02/05/2017 20:37

Hello cal
Hmmm
Not been impressed by the PP dupes tbh albeit I've only tried 2
Chocolate strawberries you say?
My ds2 would adore that!!

Judydreamsofhorses · 02/05/2017 21:36

SOTD was Lipstick Rose - after last week's blizzards it feels spring-y here again. vintage of all the perfumes I have, Chanel 19 is the only one my partner recognises straight off! One of my friends, who lives in another city, got some at Christmas and told me she would never wear it when we were together, because she knew it was "my" fragrance.

Badders123 · 02/05/2017 22:07

I'm giving PP one more try -
Nivea and cashmere must dupes
We shall see although of course I haven't smelt the originals!

Badders123 · 02/05/2017 22:08

I like the sound of lipstick rose I just say...

Badders123 · 02/05/2017 22:10

Cashmere mist
I must say

Time for bed!....
