Floofy - I do like the soap one! Thank you but I got distracted overexcited and have ordered Grin

MrsCocoa · 17/05/2017 20:07

Thank you for solving that mystery Green.

Not succumbing to the charms of Safari here. I don't seem to get on with things Fragrantica describe as 'fresh spicy' - but not sure what notes this classification contains. Any ideas?

OP posts:
Badders123 · 18/05/2017 09:03

I'm not sure I agree with their classification of safari as "fresh" tbh
It's sunny today!
So it shall be Valentino or Elizabeth Arden...

OCSockOrphanage · 18/05/2017 15:41

Random choice today from the lucky dip sample drawer was the PP dupe of Noire de Noire. It's almost as good as the TF and lasts well too. Have been lurking for a fortnight because the outside of SockTowers' has been renovated and rendered so I have been out to avoid listening to the Kango drills and to escape the cement dust paw prints that cover the kitchen floor and every other horizontal plane. Tomorrow is going to be dedicated to spring cleaning every surface, including the windows.

Badders123 · 18/05/2017 16:26

Having an issue with e bay - anyone else had this?
I've won 2 bottles of slightly used perfume and both sellers have refunded me and told me that new rules mean opened perfume can't be sent via post?
Is that true or is it just that they didn't get what they wanted for it??
😔

VintagePerfumista · 18/05/2017 16:47

No, it's true. There are always ways around it, but sellers don't generally want to risk it. It's the same thing as why PP can't/won't send sprays to ME! Chuh!

They could get round it by simply not declaring that's what they are selling of course.

I wore Givenchy III to bed last night, and Paris to work today. Am off out for some tutoring and am absolutely knackered so feel like something either zingy or comforting. Thus it will either be Jade, or Anais Anais I think.

Badders123 · 18/05/2017 17:08

Harrumph!
Now I will have to pay full price for some rive gauche.
Grrr

GreenPolishToGo · 18/05/2017 17:19

Oh Badders how very annoying. I haven't encountered that and it doesn't seem to be mentioned on the Royal Mail website but I suppose it might not have been updated yet if it is a brand new regulation...?

I have in the past had two sellers contact me to say their parcels had been rejected by the Post Office because the perfumes weren't in the original retail packaging. I always think this rule is bizarre because surely anyone with an ounce of common sense wraps up perfume like Fort Knox to send it through the post.

If they are going to ban posting opened perfumes I suppose I'll be saving an awful lot of money...

Sock that sounds very uncomfortable. Hopefully it will all be worth it in the end when you have a spruced up Sock Towers.

Safari spicy?! Oh well, we shall see. I can't not like anything with galbanum!

SOTD started off as a sample of YSL Mon Paris - top notes sweet and fruity like a cross between a lollipop and a shampoo, middle notes unpleasantly sour. At that point I scrubbed as much as I could off and covered it up with lovely Eau des Missions. Not one of YSL's better offerings.

ThreeForAPound · 18/05/2017 17:21

I think I have developed a perfume habit obsession addiction...

May I join this thread?

I have spent every lunch hour this week at work on Fragrantica...time to admit defeat, methinks.

Hello Perfumistas Grin

Ollivander84 · 18/05/2017 17:25

No scent today but I'm just out the shower after trying a coffee grounds body scrub. I smell like coconut and espresso Grin

GreenPolishToGo · 18/05/2017 17:32

Hello and welcome ThreeForAPound - I guess your name isn't a reflection of your perfume buying habits. Dangerous place, Fragrantica, but then so is this thread!

ThreeForAPound · 18/05/2017 17:37
Grin

I have certainly spent more than a quid on perfume this month

I am on a definite BAN until payday sits on hands.

And I am relatively new to this perfume geekery malarkey, so haven't even delved in to the dark and dangerous world of vintage fragrance yet. My bank balance is already groaning....

Badders123 · 18/05/2017 17:45

I'm rather cross about it tbh
Agree re Paris.. .one of the great Sophia grosjmans creations so I should love it but - ugh

GreenPolishToGo · 18/05/2017 18:01

Ah Three we all have totally topsy-turvy values on this thread! There's an awful 1980s ad for Bill Blass perfume with good ol' Bill listing what he likes and dislikes in a woman. Hmm One of his likes is a woman "who would spend her last few bucks on perfume". So he'd approve of us, whether we'd approve of him is another matter...

I'm not surprised you're cross Badders. I was blimmin' irritated about getting a refund for my bargainous White Linen. The Youth Dew seller, bless her, trekked around every post office in Cambridgeshire before finding one that would take it.

My scrubber was Mon Paris - and I thought it would be like Paris, which I like - only it was pink! I did think: "Don't judge a perfume by its colour," only I did, of course, and it was nasty. You would hate it Badders I'm sure.

Badders123 · 18/05/2017 18:22

Yeah...pink would put me right off!
Boots do have rive gauche on offer atm so I shall pop into town next week and get some
Very disappointed though 😔
Not sure whether to blind buy dusmobds and rubies - it's only £10

ThreeForAPound · 18/05/2017 19:10

Whats Mon Paris like compared to Paris? I like Paris on others, but its extremely sickly on me...

I blind bought Chanel Chance Eau Fraiche, Sisley Izia and Yardley Jade this week . Eagerly awaiting arrivals.

I think I am a bit warped, as the blind buys excite me the most Grin

Innermagic · 18/05/2017 19:44

Not posted for a while (I'm on a spending ban) but I've found a company which is like scent bird but is available in U.K., sent & co uk
It's a subscription for £14 per month you get a 10ml sample to try. The scent list is very impressive but the website seems to have a few glitches though.
My first scent is Creed Virgin Islands water 😀 coromandel was out of stock ☹️

GreenPolishToGo · 18/05/2017 19:52

Three they really have nothing in common apart from Paris in the name. Mon Paris is described as a white chypre with peony, white musk, datura and patchouli. I didn't detect any trace of a chypre and to me it started off as a sweet, fruity floral that turned rather sour very quickly. But I only kept it on for an hour and a half tops!

Yardley Jade is lovely, and such a bargain.

You could always try another seller Badders. Most of them seem to be more enterprising. On the other hand, modern Rive Gauche has the seal of approval from Luca Turin so if the Boots offer is generous it might be worth pouncing on.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 18/05/2017 20:08

The cheapest bottle of RG in boots is 29.99. I have 23 pounds in points. 😭.
So Jade-where's cheap? It was £20 in boots. I like my cheap cheaper.
I did get Library of Fragrance Vanilla Ice Cream for £1.00! Far, far too sweet for me, one for gourmand loving dd. Her current fave is a cheapy I picked up in m&s, Madeleines. Wow it's sugary and vanilla. The LofF has a spicy cinnamon note in the dry down, reminds me of the doughnut ice creams you get in Prague.

ThreeForAPound · 18/05/2017 20:18

In the name of cheapness, I've ordered a few tiny Creed dupes from PP. Its thrilling knowing I can smell like £100 for a fiver Grin

GreenPolishToGo · 18/05/2017 20:19

Ebay OhWhat, Jade crops up regularly at a bargain price. I got mine new and sealed with a body lotion for under a fiver.

I'd love to try the green Library of Fragrances sometime. If I come across them for £1 it would be rude not to!

ThreeForAPound · 18/05/2017 20:31

I haven't ventured on to Ebay for perfume yet. Am I missing out? Shock.

Where to start, though? Its a bit scary...

Badders123 · 18/05/2017 21:25

I've ordered the elizabeth Taylor

😁

ThreeForAPound · 18/05/2017 21:48

I've just ordered Lancome Poeme and am going to bed before I go bankrupt Grin

Badders123 · 18/05/2017 21:55

I haven't had a lot of sucess with PP dupes sadly
I'm logging off too before I spend more
😂
