Evening all. The DCs will be very chuffed when I tell them that their phrase "the scarf of a thousand scents" has got the MN perfumistas' stamp of approval.Smile

Oddly enough on Sunday my DD was staking her future claim to the perfumes and polishes. Being ghoulish must be catching! I did warn her she'd probably hate at least half of the fragrances.

SOTD is vintage Fidji. It might not mean anything to the DCs but I wore it so much when I was younger that DH has no trouble recognising it. And oh, how beautiful it is, a green, elegant floral that lasts for hours without ever being overpowering.

I like several Estee Lauders but I've just realised they're all vintage - Youth Dew, Alliage/Aliage, Private Collection and Knowing. I must go and sniff some of the modern ones!

Badders I'll tell you how to exercise some self control when I manage it myself, so that'll be when I don't have another set of 4160 Tuesdays samples en route to me. Whoops...Wink

Badders123 · 03/05/2017 07:13

Ah! Similar Estée Lauder taste to me green!
I think you would like sensuous nude

I'm impatiently waiting for my samples to arrive!.....

Badders123 · 03/05/2017 07:15

It's sunny so SOTD will be my beloved Valentino poudre

Green - forgot to say I adore Fiji!

Calminaqualm · 03/05/2017 08:27

Badders, some of the Perfume Parlours just don't work for me, but they're so cheap I'm happy to keep buying in order to get to the diamonds! So far, my diamonds are:

Blackberry Bayz
Hypnotic Poison
Tobacco Vanille
Sycomore
Virgin Island Waters
Encens Satin (this is just incense, but lovely for layering and also to go to sleep with)
Cafe Rose

OCSockOrphanage · 03/05/2017 09:34

Estée Lauder scents (and cosmetics) have never done it for me although I owned bottles of Knowing and White Linen in the mid-80s. I never felt they clicked for me, so I have always preferred the European perfumers, especially Guerlain and Hermes.

Today's scent is the PP dupe of Sahara Noir which someone on this thread suggested. Have never smelled the original because it's discontinued but I like the PP version.

ADisappearingDreamOfYesterday · 03/05/2017 09:38

For people that like the Nivea etc smell, the perfume Parlour do a Dove perfume that does smell like Dove and I DD really likes it. I thought the PP seems to have changed of late though, delivery took much longer and quality of scents and packaging not as good - anyone else thought that?

I am tempted though by the PP Prada Iris as vintage you wear it so much, it must be good!

I have a theory that a lot of peoples' mothers or other female relatives (awkward sentence there sorry!) wore Estée Lauder Grin

Oh Fidgi is glorious - a proper perfume! If only all perfumes were like this in terms of longevity and strength and just general evocative-ness!

I do apologise for the fact I can't seem to form a sentence or think of my words today, I still feel crap! I'm hiding from my GP as last time they packed me off to hospital and I ended up being admitted with no spare knickers (or more importantly no perfume Grin)

I'm still trying to think of what word I mean instead of evocative-ness. You guys will know what I mean though Wink

SnifflySniffer · 03/05/2017 09:56

Hi! I've been directed over to your thread to ask for some advice.

Having just read a study about the dangers of deodorant, I think my only hope to be considered non-toxic is to invest in some perfume. The problem is I have hay fever. Many flower scented perfumes or shower gels causes streaming eyes and sneezing. As such, I avoid perfume aisles and testing perfumes has risks!

The only shower gels and soaps we have in the house are either citrus or fruit based or ones that are described something like Atlantic or Sea breeze.

Can you suggest anything that would not reduce me to a snivelling wreck?

GreenPolishToGo · 03/05/2017 12:28

Hello Sniffly how very miserable for you. But you've asked just in time for two of the scents in 4160 Tuesdays' latest crowd funding project Our Modern Lives are designed to be allergen-free. They are the two synthetics OML a and OML b (the a and b should be Greek letters but the keyboard isn't cooperating). I've tried both and I really liked OML b, which was a smooth, woody, amber scent with super longevity. OML a was rather woodier than I like but I'm sure lots of people would love it.

The crowd-funding project has only 20 hours left before it closes but if you miss it I would contact Sarah McCartney at 4160 Tuesdays direct.

Badders Sensuous Nude is now on the To Try list - but maybe next month!

Poor Dream you are having a rough time.Look after yourself.Flowers

Badders123 · 03/05/2017 12:52

Dream. I hope you feel better soon x

Badders123 · 03/05/2017 12:54

Sniffly...have you tried lush gorilla perfumes?
Nothing synthetic as far as I know

Badders123 · 03/05/2017 15:23

Well!
Started the day in Valentino poudre as it seemed a lovely day
However, Grey skies, drizzle, cold wind and shower later has be back in knowing

SnifflySniffer · 03/05/2017 15:28

Thanks green. They don't seem to deliver to me though (abroad).

Badders I've haven't tried anything Blush and I've never yet managed to walk into a lush shop. I feel sick just walking past it on the street! I'm going into town tomorrow though, so maybe I'll try and brave it.

Ollivander84 · 03/05/2017 15:30

Sniffly - drop them an email, the owner is lovely and I'm sure she would post to you :)

SOTD - nenuco cologne. I could drown myself in this. So light and fresh and perfect for a warm day

Ollivander84 · 03/05/2017 15:31

Actually Sniffly, the cologne I'm wearing might work on you!
You've got monotheme book of citrus that is a range of all different citrus types
The cologne I have on is a Spanish children's ones but it's just very lemony to me and it's called Nenuco

ADisappearingDreamOfYesterday · 03/05/2017 17:06

Sniffly DH is a very sneezy person. You'll probably get better perfume advice from more expert perfume MNers than me, but I think the application matters too. I have learnt not to spray perfumes near DH, I always apply when he isn't near me and he is now careful not to kiss my neck and then sneeze in my face Grin

So for you, perhaps perfume oils or dabbers to apply may be less sneezy than sprays? And maybe better on the wrists than neck/behind ears? If you must spray, have the window open and walk away swiftly from the cloud :)

Olli is that the perfume for babies?! I need this in my life! And a perfume for cats would be good too, especially stupid floofy cats Grin

I am very grumpy now as all my plans for the day have gone to shit and I don't even feel better for resting all day so I'm going to order some perfume to cheer myself up. It'll have to be a second chance for perfume Parlour I think and I might give the Prada Iris a whirl as I see it mentioned so often on here. Or maybe Safari Noir. Or see if they do Velvet Orchid

Ollivander84 · 03/05/2017 17:08

It is! I got the spray bottle which is just a plastic pump spray and use it as perfume/body spray. Also have the shower gel which is lovely too

ADisappearingDreamOfYesterday · 03/05/2017 17:16

But..but...but what does it actually smell like? I imagine it smelling like 4711. Perfume for babies

Although it makes me laugh when people talk about newborn baby smell, I do love a snuggly newborn but to me they always have that smell of milk in their neck creases, and sometimes poo. I can see the perfume being a good idea Grin

Ollivander84 · 03/05/2017 17:21

Hmmmm. Citrus, lemon but very light. Almost like a very mild version of DKNY woman. It's a sort of clean lemon smell but not overpowering at all

Dlpdep · 03/05/2017 17:46

Do you ever go abroad and see the big bottle of baby cologne in the baby aisle, I think it is a Johnsons? I'm always tempted to buy it to see what it is like but it's bloody massive!!

MrsCocoa · 03/05/2017 17:54

Green beat me to flagging Modern Lives. Sarah Mc at 4160 has pertinent things to say on naturals Vs synthetics (plenty of natural allergens out there...).

Just NO to cat perfume. I've already had this conversation today with DS who by coincidence fragranced our feline earlier. Poor cat has spent the day sulking in the back garden - it's been quite windy so hopefully she's nearly back to normal.

MrsCocoa · 03/05/2017 18:36

Just to tie this all together, the cat smells of 'Miffy' - a child's scent, which, for the sake of the cat, let's hope is relatively gentle.

SOTD was JHAG Mad Madame. I am having a rosy week...

MrsCocoa · 03/05/2017 20:38

The Galimard's are here! 5 x 15ml of French 1960s perfumes. Three immediate likes - Outlaw (a soapy leather with a hint of inky patchouli), Charme (like a sturdier L'Heure Bleure) and Soir de Grasse (a clear cool mossy violet). Not sure about J or Eve yet (floral-aldehydes and animalic-floral respectively, both with white and yellow flowers I think).

Really difficult to find further info - Meri, shout if you have leads/links? Have been reading about Galimard on French discussion boards using Google Translate - this converts fragrance names very literally (anyone fancy a bottle of 'Fatty Evening' or 'My Fault'. Can see the latter might be a good gift after an argument...).
