I'm sorry, is it 1998?

I went shopping for the first time in ages today and these tops were everywhere. Took me right back to the 90's! I had a fine array of vest tops to put over my tee shirts but I think I'll give it a miss this time round - my very pert 34B kahunas are sadly no longer up to the strain. (Nor are they still 34B or pert Grin). Isn't it funny how fashions seem to roll back round again?

Palladiums anyone??

wineusuallyhelps · 19/02/2017 19:38

The more I read this thread, the more I think I have memory loss Blush. Would never have remembered chenille jumpers (oh so soft) and Morgan in a million years! I had a beautiful Chinese-style printed top from Morgan. And, I think, some leggings with Morgan printed down the side - or it could've been French Connection. I'm pretty sure they looked awful.

Graphista · 19/02/2017 19:46

Hanky tops - bit like phoebes in charmed here?

NotAMammy · 19/02/2017 19:46

Oh I just remembered a top that I wore in the naughties, but I'm pretty sure came from the nineties.

It was cropped, purple, velvet with bell sleeves and giant feather print on it. I may have stolen from one of my sisters.

MY GOD IT WAS GORGEOUS (on my lithe, size 8, 18-year old frame)

I also remember stealing reusing my older sisters' mohair jumper. I would genuinely wear that again.

Graphista · 19/02/2017 19:46

Chenille jumpers were great during nurse training for winter community rotations Grin

Graphista · 19/02/2017 19:51

Early 00's I had a few tips like this

img.buzzfeed.com/buzzfeed-static/static/2016-01/7/13/enhanced/webdr14/enhanced-27419-1452190281-11.jpg

Graphista · 19/02/2017 19:51

was only a size 12 even then

MumsTheWordYouKnow · 19/02/2017 19:52

Stevie I had those exact reeboks! Loved them. Have seen they're out again and can only think 80s, yuck. Bodies were great when I was slim. These days I just tuck in a vest top to keep warm Grin

MiladyThesaurus · 19/02/2017 19:55

I was never brave enough for a hanky top.

Blueberryblueberry · 19/02/2017 20:08

Am dreading the 90s being back Blush it all looked terrible on me. Dolly dresses and tshirts look terrible with boobs (which have only got bigger and so will only look worse? Angry) so many 90s disasters! I was always jealous of the girls in school who had a Morgan carrier bag with (their PE?) stuff in it- did they do that everywhere else?? I remember saving "good" carrier bags for school! I also remember going to my aunts wedding in a short Chinese dress (from bay trading) clumpy black block heeled sandals from Dolcis and a bloody tiara in my hair Grin what on earth was I thinking??! I might still like wearing little buns in my hair even though I'm in my 30s

Mrsleighdelamare · 19/02/2017 20:09

God, I left school in 1990 so all of these trends are bringing back some painful memories, I think I wore everything mentioned.

Lots of tiny t-shirts with cute prints on (they were cute then - I'd look certifiable in them now). Short skirts, opaque tights or flared Levis and daps, Puma, Adidas etc. This was particularly prevalent during my uni years, which coincided with Brit Pop.

Chiffon shirts (oh the sweat).

M&S mens' cardigans and jumpers over leggings with DMs.

But for day to day wear while at college and uni, leggings and hoodies or lumberjack shirts. Which is exactly what sixth form and uni students wear today. I work at a secondary school and it's like the exam hall has been frozen in time during A levels.

Tiny backless tops and no bra.

I've kept a few things for my daughter but I'm starting to wish I'd kept a lot more, like my ballet tops and wrap skirts as it sounds like I'd be cutting quite a fashion dash on the school run.

Rugbyplayersarehot · 19/02/2017 20:21

So after the release of the film Grease it was all 50s full skirts and blouses. My mum had s few stashed away from the original times and I went to a nightclub dressed as Sandy with half the other girls punk rockers. Good times.

Whoever thought wedges and Flares would ever b back Grin

Raa raa skirts and Fergie bows? Grin

Dd 17 put to a party yesterday in s bat wing sleeve top and big hair looking like Angie Watts. She has no idea who that is Grin

Nothing new in fashion thankfully

Rugbyplayersarehot · 19/02/2017 20:23

And left school in 1990! Feel so old. Had my second baby in 1990 Sad

IfNotNowThenWhenever · 19/02/2017 20:24

Kind of like that graphista, but actually just a large square silk hanky, with a tiny string bit to tie as a halter, and then the pointy ends tied behind the back.
I just realised I missed out 1997 on my list...I vaguely remember a vintage burgundy leather coat..anyone remember how much ace vintage stuff there used to be around?? I had amazing 1950s silk cocktail dresses, loads of leather bags and coats, kaftans, all sorts.
You cant get anything decent now, unless you pay £££
I could cry for the amount of clothing I have left behind all over the place when moving house/country. Not that anything would fit me now!

Graphista · 19/02/2017 20:31

Yea I struggled to find proper hanky tops on Google, milady succeeded though

TheCakes · 19/02/2017 20:34

I've still got my burgundy velvet jacket. I took it in at the seams for DS to dress up as Willy Wonka on WBD, but it will let out again if it ever comes back into fashion.

I used to love mooching round vintage shops. I had some ace 60s shift dresses which I wore with feather boas to go clubbing

Also loved vintage Adidas trackie tops with massive flares and trainers.

AteRiri · 19/02/2017 20:49

So time to dress like Angela Chase then?

(I live in a hipster-y part of the city, so I probably will not look off)

TheThickenPlots · 19/02/2017 21:05

Milady I had those trainers too! Loved them. I also had burgundy Buffalo ones.
I am ridiculously short yet bodies were never long enough on me, could barely get the poppers done up so would just tuck the flaps in!
So many things I recognise on here. I see a lot of kids in this stuff at school and I just find it bizarre - doesn't seem long enough ago it was 'in' the last time!

TheCakes · 19/02/2017 21:09

I never got along with bodies. Spent half the night trying to fight the urge to fish them out of my arse.
I might need to try again with my new dungaree dress Hmm

AteRiri · 19/02/2017 21:17

I have really small boobs. T-shirt under dress would suit me, right?

GraceGrape · 19/02/2017 21:21

Did anyone carry their PE kit to school in a carrier bag like this, or was it just my school?

I'm sorry, is it 1998?
mathanxiety · 19/02/2017 21:23

I love the blocky heels on shoes, and the creepers, and I own several lumberjack shirts. But that khaki cord pinafore dress is grim..

Graphista · 19/02/2017 21:26

I had something like these they were really comfy!

Kwackerly · 19/02/2017 21:27

I still have four pairs of buffalo trainers in the lift. Also my old clubbing gear, hotpants, platforms, mad satin zip tops, rubber waistcoats, catsuit with zips full length to under chin, camisole tops and shit loads of mini skirts. Several tops from that glow in dark mad shop at seven dials whose name u forget but was V fashionable. I thought I'd get back into them after having DS...Confused where I was planning to wear them I don't know...
