I'm sorry, is it 1998?

I went shopping for the first time in ages today and these tops were everywhere. Took me right back to the 90's! I had a fine array of vest tops to put over my tee shirts but I think I'll give it a miss this time round - my very pert 34B kahunas are sadly no longer up to the strain. (Nor are they still 34B or pert Grin). Isn't it funny how fashions seem to roll back round again?

And the write up says: Work that 90s look into your wardrobe with this adjustable strap pinafore dress. Pair with a T-shirt and plimsolls to complement.

Graphista · 19/02/2017 15:26

I remember oriental look.

I had a pale blue satin Nehru collared wrap mini dress - I was a size 6/8 then

TheCakes · 19/02/2017 15:42

I had a pair of Acupuncture trainers stolen at the gym Nicky42!

They must have been hot property, I replaced them with the ones with toggles on.

venusinscorpio · 19/02/2017 15:57

Ooh yes, Chinese style satin look dresses.

SuperFlyHigh · 19/02/2017 16:28

Graphista I had a gorgeous emerald green oriental style top and a light blue oriental style dress (straight), I was also an 8-10 in those days too.

I often wonder why I didn't keep them but then again I didn't wear them that much....!

Graphista · 19/02/2017 16:44

Ha I'd be lucky to get one arm in entire dress these days!

I wore mine a few times (mainly engagement parties, most of the couples no longer together)

1998? Earlier than that for sure - I was wearing strappy dresses over tshirts in 1993. I have a very memorable photo of me shitfaced unwell on a ferry in VI form. Can't quite pull the look off now.

TheCakes · 19/02/2017 17:30

Chopsticks in your hair Graphista?

ArriettyClock1 · 19/02/2017 17:32

That top is bloody awful!

I have however, bought many chokers and am glued to my Adidas Superstars.

SapphireStrange · 19/02/2017 17:33

I was the right age for T-shirts under strappy frocks in the 90s but hated them.

My 90s look was more Britpop/acid jazz –a little T-shirt, a short flippy skirt and thick black opaques, with retro low-top trainers (Puma usually). A coat with a fake-fur collar in the winter. Anyone else used to rock that look?

venusinscorpio · 19/02/2017 17:40

I agree it was more of an early 90s thing. I also went on a French ferry trip in 1993 in multicoloured floral strappy mini dress with dark brown (!) ribbed long sleeved top underneath.

SuperFlyHigh · 19/02/2017 17:44

TheCakes I had chopsticks (the decorative hair ones) in my hair!

I bought a pair (hair accessory) for my half sister (this is when I was speaking to her!) and she was thrilled at the time!

TheCakes · 19/02/2017 17:45

I have a photo of my best friend on a french ferry with a T-shirt and strappy dress too, when for some mad reason we decided to catch a bus from Manchester to the South of France. I think it was cheap. Duty free got us through the 36 hour journey.

booox · 19/02/2017 17:51

We were obsessed with hunting for velvet jackets in charity shops. Waist coat, floaty white shirt, Levi jeans.

Graphista · 19/02/2017 17:52

No chop sticks as i had a Bob at the time Blush

Used these though

StandAndBeCounted · 19/02/2017 17:56

I have no recollection of this trend?! Where was I?

Carriecakes80 · 19/02/2017 18:08

If any of you lot could wear this look, be grateful! I was on steroids all through my childhood and could barely walk, so put on loads of weight, so my Mum, to try and cheer me up, bought me everything Neon, bermuda shorts, odd neon socks, little tee's with holes in, eurgh!!! Bloody awful! I think this looks a bit like the girl has woken up and gotten dressed wrong lol. Must be my age! ;-) x

Diamondsandpurls · 19/02/2017 18:09

Erm desolate I'm gutted, I only just bought that pinafore in grey and now it's reduced??? I was rocking the student look in it with poloneck, opaques and ankle boots aged 38. Just realised how ancient the 16 year old me would have considered the 38 year old me Shock

HappyFlappy · 19/02/2017 18:10

You do realise the 90s was mostly a repeat of the 70s? This is third time around for me

Ma an' all Flo.

I am dizzy with deja vu . . .

Graphista · 19/02/2017 18:12

Where it really catches you out (me anyway Blush) is when you try styles you used to rock...then see the CURRENT overweight mid 40's greying you NOT rocking it in the mirror

Graphista · 19/02/2017 18:12

Carrie Flowers hope your health improved

Mummyoflittledragon · 19/02/2017 18:13

Stevie. I loved my reeboks in the 90's. And I got an new pair last year. Exactly the same except I couldn't find the white with bright pink trim. So I went for white with green trim. Just for dog walking though. So much more comfy than trainers as they're hi tops.

Graphista · 19/02/2017 18:15

When pointed toe stilettos came back early 2000's my gran pointed out it was FOURTH time around for her!
