I'm sorry, is it 1998?

I went shopping for the first time in ages today and these tops were everywhere. Took me right back to the 90's! I had a fine array of vest tops to put over my tee shirts but I think I'll give it a miss this time round - my very pert 34B kahunas are sadly no longer up to the strain. (Nor are they still 34B or pert Grin). Isn't it funny how fashions seem to roll back round again?

I used to put a chopstick in my hair. It made styling so easy. Never went for this look though. Thought it was ugly then and still do. Maybe a nice blouse?

Graphista · 19/02/2017 18:17

The mistake I made with the style in the op was vest top in my normal size over BAGGY t shirts Grin

It should've been tight/stretchy tees with vest a size bigger than normal, didn't learn that for years. Blush

Graphista · 19/02/2017 18:18

Anyone else REALLY grateful no camera phones back then?

OverthinkingSpartacus · 19/02/2017 18:22

And tucking tshirts and jumpers in, then pulling them back out until they were hanging over the belt loops but still tucked in?

Anyone else do that or just me and my mates? Blush

wineusuallyhelps · 19/02/2017 18:34

Spartacus, yes! So funny - haven't thought of that since! Must've made us look like we had a muffin top?!

fluffiny31 · 19/02/2017 18:39

I saw someone dressed in a bright blue shell suit yesterday Hmm

Roseandbee · 19/02/2017 18:40

Im not judging as I think we've all had one of those mornings where we've been so tired we managed to out our undergarments over our tshirts

Graphista · 19/02/2017 18:42

Spartacus yes Grin

I itch to do the same to dds tops (which are plain tucked in even cardigans and hoodies Hmm)

Dollymouse · 19/02/2017 18:43

I do not remember this trend at all - is it possible I was drunk all of 1998?

Graphista · 19/02/2017 18:44

In the 80's at school it was the thing to stretch your sleeves over your hands bunching the ends in your fist, my mum used to go nuts! 'Stop stretching all your sleeves'

They did used to end up 50% longer than when bought! Grin

elliejjtiny · 19/02/2017 18:44

I remember white short sleeved tops under strappy dresses (wonders wistfully if those floppy black velvet hats with the rose on the front will be trendy again).

Graphista · 19/02/2017 18:45

Dollymouse then you musta been pissed (or overseas?) most of mid 90's then the fashion was around for a while

supersop60 · 19/02/2017 18:53

it's more like 1978 with floral print and frills on everything!

iremembericod · 19/02/2017 18:58

My 15 year old 'ahead of the curve' niece just bought a shell suit jacket 😱😱

Are shell suits on the way back?
I seem to remember nearly combusting in one whilst going down a slide. The sparks where amazing Shock

BatonRouge · 19/02/2017 19:02

1980's and 1990's sportswear is huge. Wavey garms is the key facebook selling page. If only I'd kept my garms from those days - would make an absolute fortune now!

Clandestino · 19/02/2017 19:03

t-shirts over rollnecks, oversized lumberjack shirts, long skirts with doc martens, yaaaaaaaaaaaay!!!

Clandestino · 19/02/2017 19:05

In the 80's at school it was the thing to stretch your sleeves over your hands bunching the ends in your fist, my mum used to go nuts! 'Stop stretching all your sleeves'

My sister used to do this to mine. Bitch!

TheCakes · 19/02/2017 19:11

I do like a bunchy sleeve. I looked like Marmalade Atkins in school.

Rainbowsparkle · 19/02/2017 19:12

Going in to jd sports is like stepping back into the 90s with reebok classics, adidas superstars, Nike Cortez and fila making a comeback!

IfNotNowThenWhenever · 19/02/2017 19:16

The 90s was the worst fashion decade. However, I did have some much loved outfits..

1991-Brown dungaree dress, stripy tights and pigtails (brown was the new black-I remember the article that stated that!)
1992-Courtney Love style babydoll dresses with Para boots and ripped tights...
1993-Massive 70s vintage flared jeans with the skinniest T shirts and a a lurex cardigan.
1994-Plastic, low slung bootcut trousers for clubbing with see through stripes, worn with a halter neck, sparkly trainers and the tiniest rucksack ever...
1995-Knee length brown cargo style skirt, worn with flats a little denim jacket and massive shades.
1996-a top with a photo print of a tropical beach scene, and cargo pants..
1998-Black sleeveless dress over silky trousers, jeweled flip flops
1999-A large silk hanky. As a top. With no bra. Them were the days!
So glad there are very few pictures!

NotAMammy · 19/02/2017 19:27

Did someone say chenille jumpers? Now that's a trend I can get behind. I remember all the comfiness of them.

White t-shirt under a spaghetti strap dress - yup
Embroidered jeans/denim skirts - yup

Now I'm just waiting on cycling shorts (slightly before my time) and massive cords (so much room) and I'll break out my Buffy books...

SuperFlyHigh · 19/02/2017 19:27

IfNow you've just reminded me, I did the large silk hanky as a top (but with a strapless bra as I needed one!).

A good friend of mine loved and still loves baby doll dresses - but she says she's too old and overweight to wear them now! That was one trend that passed me by.

A few things I had I rather liked, I had a lovely black front turquoise/bright blue sheer back top, courtesy of Karen Millen.

And I had several Morgan de Toi (was that the name?) stretchy tops, skirts, etc which we all wore out clubbing. Some of it hasn't changed now, stretchy denim material look skirts etc. leopard print stretchy tops etc.

SuperFlyHigh · 19/02/2017 19:30

Notamammy ah yes, chenille jumpers, you've just reminded me!

I had lots of these (plain, striped etc) but they were comfy yes!

I did also wear the cycling shorts but also had some baby light pink stretch cycling shorts shorts (so not proper cycling shorts but that length) from Benetton. I thought I was the dogs bollocks in those!

The shoes too, platforms, loads of shiny plastic etc... I don't know how my feet or back coped! Grin
