It's not even close to midnight here but I wanted to wish all you lovely ladies a Happy New Year full of love and, most of all, good health.

I often wish I lived closer to all of you so we could meet up IRL all the time.

We were supposed to keep it simple and just buy some nibbles for our supper but when DH and I were looking at things to buy in the supermarket, DH all lf a sudden decided he wanted to make Beef Wellington and roast potatoes.

Apologies to the vegetarians but the beef was cooked to perfection and so were the roast potatoes.

his raspberry cheesecake didn't set and was a bit of a mess

Happy new year Voguettes! You were wonderful friends to me in 2016, especially during my many illnesses, so thank you to each of you for your friendship, your advice and your kindness. 💕

On a style note, what is unique about this thread is that finding a warehouse party dress is just as important as finding a Herve Leger party dress. Two very different budgets but everyone gets just as involved. I have always loved that about the thread, so long may it continue!

To those Voguettes who had a particularly challenging 2016, whether it was relationships, health, money etc I hope you found support on here from me and everyone else and that 2017 is a happier and more special year for you and your families. Mwah 💋 xxx

Finally, happy new year to lurkers....The thread is not about having a mahooosive budget, nor about the constant buying of clothes, many Voguettes didn't buy very much in 2016. So do please join us! Smile

VivaVegas · 01/01/2017 08:46

Happy new year to you all!

Everyonelovessparkles · 01/01/2017 10:11

Happy new year everyone! Hope it's a good one.

Sounds like everyone has had a nice Christmas break.

Congratulations mara on the internship, what great news to start the new year.

Congratulations on selling the house too amber and for your new addition to the family.

Glad you got your tooth sorted dry and are pleased with your eyebrows.

blingy take care of yourself. Glad you had a nice break and enjoyed coming home to a Christmassy house. I think Christmas can sometimes bring out the worst in DC as my two were a bit overwhelmed by everything at times.

Great news on the trench blair, I hope it fits.

I'm not surprised about gap either, they used to do the basics really well but the stores are just like jumble sales now and their website is dreadful. The kids stuff is nice. I remember being really pleased when BR finally came to the UK but then never bought anything from there as it always seemed expensive but not great quality and a lot of stuff seemed to be dry clean, so I have to looked in there for years.

Haven't really done much perusing of the sales as have been away for the wedding, which was nice and I was pleased that I went with my existing outfit rather than get something I'll probably never wear again. Also I can't think of anything I need so keeping away rather than buying for the sake of it.
Went round to some friends for drinks last night which was nice, wore a black and blue monsoon dress and black Swarovski bracelet.

My best buy of 2016 were my straight slim jeans from gap. Love the fit and have worn them every week, but it seems virtually impossible to get another pair.

Worst buys were probably my gold wedge sandals from dune, I knew when I bought them that they were a bit sore round the ankle but thought they would soften up. Instead I cut my ankle to ribbons on the 2 occasions I wore them. Should have just sent them back. Also a black dress with a white and grey pattern that i ordered in the sale thinking it would be really useful, turns out its not.

My learning from 2016 is also about accessories lifting an outfit which I can look a but more together even with something casual. Also, I have finally learnt to buy items for my current lifestyle rather than just things I like but totally impractical for my lifestyle.

My resolution for 2017 is not to be attracted by a bargain if it's something I don't really need and to continue to make more considered purchases.

Happy 2017 MNV
Short & sweet, slightly hungover!
Will read all later!

MarshaBrady · 01/01/2017 11:45

Happy New year lovely, gorgeous voguettes.

Love the style, the chat and most of all the friendship, it really does mean a lot. Big mwah to a beautiful 2017, with lots of MUs

Big love. Thanks

Drywhitethanks · 01/01/2017 11:48

I'm very late with my Happy New Year wishes. I love this thread, have met some wonderful women and bought some fantastic clothes as a result. It's so much more than clothes and has been a giggle. You're all great and I look forward to many more MUs and fun here.

So, at 5.30 DH and I had a very last minute invitation to a blacked do. At first we were a bit meh "let's stay in with out steak and champ" but them I chaneled Amber and got a grip Grin Have never got ready so quickly. Dressing up is my fav........in the end I wore my birthday outfit again and felt great. Here's the shocker........I drank water all night Shock just couldn't face a hangover today but will be opening fizz this evening with friends . Good times, sometimes unexpected events are the best although it was a good lesson in what not to wear in middle age and a reminder that Dad dancing is embarrassing if you're sober

Hope you all have a peaceful and happy 2017.

Big resolution......not to buy £8 shoes from Asda, because they do NOT look like Valentino in the slightest Grin

AmberNectarine · 01/01/2017 13:21

Feeling really quite shady today after a 5am finish. Randomly ended up seeing Steps perform at a gay club (long story, I'm a super fan) which was excellent! Worth the pain, just. Clever DH stopped drinking at half 1. This idiot started on the shots at that point. Sigh.

Maybe my NY resolution should be 'learn some moderation'.

Dreamqueen · 01/01/2017 13:33

amber no to moderation. I love reading about your outings, they sound so exciting. Great news on the house.

Showered and feel more human now.

libertydoddle · 01/01/2017 14:14

I'll join QueenC on a dry January (from tomorrow). Don't think I can do no spend though. Am patiently stalking a couple of things that I'm hoping will go to 70% off...

MarshaBrady · 01/01/2017 14:17

If I do any sales shopping I'm going to do it at final reduction stage too.

Will go back to my no drinking at home after this week

FedupNagging · 01/01/2017 14:35

Amber you even beat my 20yo ds - he rolled in at 4 - although you are obviously up and about and he is still snoring away!

Dry last minute invites always end up being enjoyable I find. Glad you had a good time.

We went to a do last night which was ok I guess although it did improve the more wine I quaffed as the evening went on. We were with some really good friends which always helps!

Love the breton Queen and the DVF blouse - the black lace top I bought at the beginning of December is almost identical to the DFV although I paid substantially less.

I have managed to buy a couple of things in the sale
Jigsaw dress
and
Jumper

I also tried on a few pairs of block heels to wear with flares but was unsure so left it. I probably needed to have worn my flares rather than skinnies.

Good luck to those doing dry January - I obviously would love to join in Grin but have quite a lot of social events to go to. Though I might have a go at restricting the alcohol weekends.

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 01/01/2017 14:36

i have bought a flamingo print swing skirt int he sales and thats it. there's just nothing grabbing me at all this time round

the flat is at that stage where everything looks a total state and like nothings been done even though loads has! painting starts on tuesday so once thats done we'll be almost there i think. Dp goes home tomorrow for 4 days and then is back again for 9 days to finish the flat and then move me. I am terrified right now if i'm honest!

Karcheer · 01/01/2017 16:02

blair I often wish mumsnet was called ladiesnet, I can't have children and find as long as I avoid certain threads I feel mumsnet represents women's issues rather than just mums issues. This thread being one.

littleredlipstick · 01/01/2017 17:18

Happy new year ladies

I used to be muddlingalong but had a really crap 2015/16 so disappeared for a while and have not long returned and changed name and hoping for a better 2017.

Have spent the day reorganising my wardrobe and beauty products and now making a list of essential things for my wardrobe. While looking at accessories to finish off my outfit (just bought a Monica vinader bracelet in the sale) Though I have no idea what kind of accessories I need feel totally lost in that department.

BerniceBobsHerHair · 01/01/2017 17:35

Happy New year everyone!

Checking in for 2017. I think I've been away for too long to properly catch up but welcome back to Linus (that beef wellington looks amazing) and Karcheer.

Its been interesting to read your best (and worst) buys of 2016 - seems like everyone has been very restrained and not very many mistakes to report.

Mine are...
Best buy - I have a few, Hudson wistow boots which were an ebay bargain, also my fringed Hudson boots I've mentioned on here before, and also mentioned my Whistles carrie dress which is a good weekend dress. And a grey wool coat I nicked from my mum - has been good for making outfits smart for work!
Mistakes are anything (apart from boots above) that I bought from ebay.
I can't exactly remember the last 2 questions but was it about resolutions?
My big S&B resolution will be to attend some meet ups as this year will be the last ones with a local Liberty (hoping you still might be able to come after your move).

Amber congrats on house purchase - when will you move?
One good luck with your move.
Look forward to hearing about your Burberry purchase when it arrives Blair - hope Kitty managed to bag one too.
Hello to everyone else, sorry I haven't name checked - struggling to keep up!

I will probably join some of you in dry January - feeling a bit addled at the moment Wine Wine

shopafrolic · 01/01/2017 17:35

Littlered 2017 is all about onwards and upwards for me - welcome back
QueenC LOVE that SL breton - so good but so ££££
I have taken down the tree - feels good to get the house back. Fresh start. Drank a bucket load of prosecco while I did it though. No dry January here but will cut down and try and get back to 2-3 days a week when I have a drink rather than 6!

kittyhello · 01/01/2017 17:35

Welcome back to the thread littlered

Love the red and navy breton you linked queenc now if only I could justify £600 on a Breton

I too am stalking a few items but sadly I think I missed the boat as they are oos, am hoping for returns

Have eaten far too much food the past week and have been living in grey joggers they are actually smart enough to wear outside of the house for the school run etc and am tempted to dress them up and try them for work with some courts shoes or pointy flats.

littleredlipstick · 01/01/2017 17:42

Yes definitely onwards and upwards from now on!

Just thinking of my best and worse purchases of 2016. Best has to be my Ralph Loren jumper dress I picked up at Bicester it's been so useful in the colder months. Don't think I had a bad purchase in 2016 (didn't really buy a lot) but from 2015 are a pair of sandals from balenciaga quality of the soles are shocking have been sent for repair (done poorly) and now sit there tormenting me as I dislike wearing them. They were my first pair of designer shoes as well.
