Lipstick challenge for January

Don't worry, its not a 'thing' - you don't have to post photos on Facebook or get sponsorship for charity. Just something I'm planning to brighten up a dull January Smile

The idea is that you wear a different lipstick / lipgloss every day through January. I'm planning to stick all of mine in a big box and do a 'lucky dip' every morning. It will be a bit of fun (in a slightly pathetic way) and will be interesting to see which lipsticks I get excited about pulling out and which I'm maybe not that fond of anymore

Anyone else fancy it?

Ooooooooo gonads

BusterGonad · 13/01/2017 14:54

The bag Another? I know I bought it off of a friend, really cheap, she gave me mates rates, a few months back I gave her a Max Factor foundation which I think helped! 😂 It's a Lulu Guinness! I've never owned a 'designer' bag before!

SapphireSeptember · 13/01/2017 23:49

Buster Oooh, I've seen that lipstick! And they have black and blue cream lipsticks. I want! And they are expensive. I've got a hankering for Urban Decay, Kat Von D, Make Up Forever and Artdeco lipsticks too. My lipstick habit is expensive enough as it is!

Pinkie Revlon are awesome, they've been around for years so know what they're about. I kinda wish they'd do some more unusual colours though. I want them to do a black with number 666, as Chocolicious, which is a dark brown, is number 665, and when I went into Boots with my friend and saw it I said "If that's 665 I'd love to see what 666 is!" Maybe they could do a Halloween limited edition.

BusterGonad · 14/01/2017 03:39

Sapphire have you seen Kathy Perrys range with Cover Girl in the Us, she did a black one (I'm 99% certain) as well as many other wonderful colours, have a look on eBay!

I have been lurking on this thread since it first started. First in amazement, then fascination and, finally, interest. I last bought a lipstick about three years ago. As is was in a 3 for 2 deal and I like a bargain, I got three identical ones. I have almost used one, the other two still have quite a bit left.
On Thursday, I had 20 mins to kill in town as a friend was running late and spotted a Superdrug. Inspired by you lot, I bought 2 new lipsticks. I wore one yesterday & one today. I love them! At the time, I thought they looked quite different to my current one and to each other but I have now realised they are all on the same shade spectrum. I may go back for me & be a bit more daring!
A practical question though - with all this different lipsticks, what do you do about re-applying it during the day? Are you just more organised than me & remember to take it with you each day?

leedy · 14/01/2017 12:25

I normally just stick the lipstick in my bag for the day. The problem is when I forget to take it out and end up with a bag full of random lipsticks...

Nars Anna is for the chop, I wore it for most of the day yesterday, then tried on a red in a shop and immediately looked about a million per cent more alive. Today's lucky dip is Nars Lana, which is very .... orange. I think I like it, though.

Buster, I have a matte red from that Katy Perry range, it's great! Only issue I'd have is that it has matte white packaging that just ends up looking MANKY, but the lipsticks themselves are brilliant and super cheap.

Lottapianos · 14/01/2017 18:26

Welcome to the world of lipstick, still! Yes I bring my lipstick/lipgloss with me every day and reapply as needed.

Primark Matte Lip Pencil in Pillar Box Red today. Costs a whole £2 and absolutely brilliant for the price

Nars Lana is a keeper - genuinely cheered me up every time I caught a glimpse of it. It's not subtle, mind.

SapphireSeptember · 14/01/2017 21:39

leedy Nars Anna looks similar to the Esscence matte lipstick I have (Wow Effect) which I picked up because it was the closest thing I could find to a greyish pink. £24 vs £2.30, I think Essence win!

I carried out my lipstick plan with regards to Revlon, then after I finished work yesterday I wore Wow Effect by Esscence, and after I finished work today I wore Maybelline's matte lipstick Magnetic Magenta, which is called Mesmerizing Magenta in the USA. It's so pretty and bright!

Since I've started wearing lipstick at work all the creeps have come out to play. Do they really think I'm wearing lipstick because I want to be chatted up by old guys who are older than my actual grandfather? Envy

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 14/01/2017 21:40

Thanks to this thread I got rid of a few lipsticks that were just sitting there, doing nothing good for me.

Dulcimena · 14/01/2017 21:46

Loving all the lipstick chat! I don't have an orange lipstick, I think I want one.

Yesterday I wore Lipstick Queen St Natural which I really love, just wish it was a bit more hydrating. Today Surratt Eglantine (again, I think?). Thursday was Chantecaille China Rose, which was just ok. Can do better.

I think I've missed some days out...

SapphireSeptember · 14/01/2017 21:47

Ooh, name names Chardonnay! I'd like to know which ones you got rid of.

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 14/01/2017 21:55

Two Kate Moss for Rimmel ones, one a dark plum, the other one a light nude. Too matt, the plum one and too boring the nude one.
One L'Oreal Balm something stick.
One beige-y nude Lancome, just muddy and boring.
One light pinky Revlon gloss, it doesn't show at all, I might as well not bother with it.
one coral Estee lauder gloss.
One wine colour Bourjouis Chubby Stick.

The rest are safe so far, all 23 of them.

SapphireSeptember · 14/01/2017 22:01

Dulcimina Of course you want an orange lipstick! Go for something not too expensive though, like GOSH Flirty Orange or Maybelline Electric Orange, that way you can try it, but if you don't like it you haven't spent loads of money. (Owns both, and quite a few others, and the first MAC lipstick I bought was Morange.) I never thought orange lipstick would suit me, but I tried it and fell in love.

I knew my make up obsession would come in handy one day! Take that naysayers!

Dulcimena · 14/01/2017 22:04

Sapphire, lol! Lipstick enabler Grin. Will check those two out, ty for the recs.

SapphireSeptember · 14/01/2017 22:04

Aww, RIP lipsticks! Thank you, I'm nosy. Grin

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 14/01/2017 22:10

I've been looking at new ones. Blush

Lancome Berry Noir is calling to me.

SapphireSeptember · 14/01/2017 22:11

Dulcimina You're welcome! Yes I am. I love talking about make up! I like persuading people to try out new things. Smile I love trying new things myself, so try to spread the love!

I love this thread, I get to talk about my one true love...

SapphireSeptember · 14/01/2017 22:20

Chardonnay Go on, you know you want to...

Buster Missed your suggestion! Oh yes, there's a black one! Want it! The names are awesome too!

BusterGonad · 15/01/2017 05:45

Sapphire older than your actual grandfather! 😂 so funny!
New lipstick alert....Pupa I'm Matt lip fluid in a rich red burgundy. I've not worn it yet and won't today as I'm really poorly. When I do I'll let you know how it goes.

I've just read the whole thread - so many lovely ideas for new lipsticks! I always love the idea of lipstick (and enviously admire other people wearing it) so I'm going to try and be more organised and remember to put one in my handbag each morning.
Just before Christmas I bought a gorgeous one from Rimmel - its matte called high flyer and a sort of rosey pinky red - I love it! I'm trying to reduce my make up spend so tried a rimmel foundation and as it was 3 for 2 I got the lipstick on a whim. Its reminded me how much more 'finished' I feel when I wear lipstick. Soooo much better than a MAC matte one I bought earlier in the year - cost a fortune, gorgeous colour but the texture was so drying. I think you need to be a real lipstick pro to wear formulations which are that drying.
Anyway, sorry for my slightly rambling post, thank you for the ideas and inspiration and I shall be joining you in wearing lippy more often from now on! In fact I think I might put my high flyer on now - it'll go beautifully with my dressing gown!!

jelly10 · 15/01/2017 08:28

And buster, hope you feel better soon Flowers

AnotherPinkiePieStory · 15/01/2017 08:31

sapphire you inspire me! I never bin but now I am to make space for newbies. I think an orange and a dark plum are required. Any recommendations? Doing no-spend Jan but 1st Feb, watch out!

Yesterday was topshop everything stick. Very 90's so a few comments but not very long lasting which is my main request nowadays.
still I keep lipstick in bag or pocket to reapply regularly. I wear a mask at work so need to reapply a lot as most smear into mask. Yes it's a cracking look.
