Lipstick challenge for January

Don't worry, its not a 'thing' - you don't have to post photos on Facebook or get sponsorship for charity. Just something I'm planning to brighten up a dull January Smile

The idea is that you wear a different lipstick / lipgloss every day through January. I'm planning to stick all of mine in a big box and do a 'lucky dip' every morning. It will be a bit of fun (in a slightly pathetic way) and will be interesting to see which lipsticks I get excited about pulling out and which I'm maybe not that fond of anymore

Anyone else fancy it?

Matte lipsticks that don't turn your lips into the Sahara and make them look flaky (looking at you MAC!) are wonderful. They're hard to find though

Lotta I think the Smashbox ones are very slightly on the dry side, I don't mean uncomfortable but they can look a little dry, the best Matte one I own is Chanel rouge velvet. Totally worth the £££. But the Smashbox have the most beautiful unusual colours. I just ❤️ them!

leedy · 12/01/2017 15:05

That Smashbox plum looks GORGEOUS. Though I am meant to be getting rid of lipsticks, not buying more...

RainbowsandLemonDrops · 12/01/2017 15:06

Slick of pink Vaseline today only! Does that count?! 🙈

BusterGonad · 12/01/2017 15:39

I love it, I've only worn it once but I've only had it since August. It's scary in the tube!

Don't think I've worn a matte lipstick in years.
Today's one is a Revlon chubby stiick in 045.
Red, bright and sheer.
It does bleed a bit thought.

"Matte lipsticks that don't turn your lips into the Sahara and make them look flaky (looking at you MAC!) are wonderful. "

The Clinique matte pop ones are THE BOMB in this regard. Also recommend the Nars mattes in the skinny tubes and the Charlotte Tilbury ones. I also have a v good matte red from Estee Lauder's new young people range (I am not its target audience) but I think they only have it in the US so far.

There seem to be a lot of liquid mattes out at the moment but I am suspicious of them, possibly fearing they will feel like yucky Lipfinity (which felt like I'd laminated my lips).

Splendid, thanks so much leedy. Off to the Clinique counter I go ! I already had NARS on my 'must try' list. I got Charlotte Tilbury Lost Cherry just before Christmas and that's very comfortable to wear too.

The worst I have ever worn are MAC. I am holding onto my tube of Relentlessly Red because the colour is stunning, one of my favourites ever, but the formula is horrendous. I have to wear it with lip balm, which negates the whole matte aspect Smile

I agree that Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet has an awesome texture and it is one of my favorite formulas to wear. My Nars Jungle Red is almost matte and also great to wear. But I think glossy lipstick is coming back - for some reason I am really drawn to high gloss atm.

I envy anyone who gets to do a lucky dip every morning! I am still patiently wearing Max Factor Chilli every day. I'm pretty sure I can finish it this month. That is very satisfying as well.

TeaAddict235 · 12/01/2017 16:38

Fell off the lipswick wagon as visiting family with lots of outside garden time. Would be the lady of the mucky manor with lipstick and wellies in the rain Envy

Home again tomorrow and will pick up DH from the airport so will lather on more lippy than you can shake a stick at Grin

Lotta Essence matt matt matt lipsticks are 1) super cheap (£2.30) and 2) are not drying at all. They only have seven colours though. NYX matte lipsticks are also really good, as are Revlon, but they don't have that many colours anymore. Sad I've also tried Maybelline's version and they're really nice as well, though I think we've got four out of the 20 shades they released in the USA. Envy They have blue lipstick!

Lottapianos · 12/01/2017 20:55

Ooh thanks Sapphire. All budget suggestions as well, excellent Grin

Oh pictures! The first picture is of Maybelline's creamy matte lipsticks, which we got 8 out of the 20, and the second are their Loaded Bolds lipsticks, which we have four of. Bastards. Some look like repeats, but still! It's not fair!

Cross post! You're welcome. Essence are sold in Wilkos, but if you don't have one nearby you can buy from their website, which is preferable because the wankers round here tamper with the make up. Angry

leedy · 12/01/2017 22:08

Excellent tips, Sapphire! Also hrmm, I will be in the US in March, may check out some of the Maybelline ones. It's always annoying when they don't release full shade ranges over here.

SapphireSeptember · 12/01/2017 22:13

Very annoying! Especially as it's the more unusual colours I hanker after. The USA have some seriously cool make up. NYX are nice to us though. Grin

Lottapianos · 13/01/2017 08:07

Maybelline Colour Sensational in Hot Plum today. One of my favorites, I cheered when it came out of the lucky dip box last night Smile great colour, lasts well, not at all drying, a total bargain

"Especially as it's the more unusual colours I hanker after. The USA have some seriously cool make up."

Yup, the last time I ram-raided Sephora in SF there were sooooooo many interesting lippie colours - Bite had various shades of more-or-less black, the Estee Lauder "Estee Edit" line (which I really hope we get here, the quality and colours are amazing) had a beautiful blue. I didn't pick any up as I was going through a big All About The Red phase (and got some great reds) but next time I might dabble in some all-out weirdness.

BusterGonad · 13/01/2017 09:18

Today I'm wearing Mac Craving. It's an ok colour, a bit boring but it's perfectly nice. I'd never wear it on a night out as it's too casual IMO.

I've changed my mind. It's Mac Hot Gossip, it's a pinky mauve with a kind of shiny metalicness to it. It's hard to describe. It's really lovely.

I'm wearing Nars Anna, which is a sort of muted purpley-rose colour. It's OK, bit dull, nice texture. I remember liking this a lot more when I bought it. Will see how I feel about it by the end of the day.

BusterGonad · 13/01/2017 09:54

I'm like that with many make up items, but I get a bit obsessed and have to buy it unless I go crazy, them once I've bought it I'm a bit meh....why oh why! Lol 😂

AnotherPinkiePieStory · 13/01/2017 12:44

You guys are lipstick legends. I now have a list of things to try including revlon who I have ignored for years! Love the deep smashbox one too and I usually bypass their lipsticks.

Currently wearing nyx suede liquid matte lipstick. Not sure. Not too drying but doesn't last very long which I thought was the point really. It's a sort of neon coral which I suspect is both too summery and yoof but what is life if not for experimentation?!?

AnotherPinkiePieStory · 13/01/2017 12:45

Oddly in photo looks muted, irl a bit of a double taker!

Another never buy pass a Smashbox, also try them on your hand as they look VERY different than in the tube, honestly, I wanted the Plum Rokecto test and couldn't find the tester so the lady got in out of the box, only for us to realize that it looked almost black in the tube!
Sapphire Smashbox do a Matte grey lippy, I'll bet you'll love it!
