Lipstick challenge for January

Don't worry, its not a 'thing' - you don't have to post photos on Facebook or get sponsorship for charity. Just something I'm planning to brighten up a dull January Smile

The idea is that you wear a different lipstick / lipgloss every day through January. I'm planning to stick all of mine in a big box and do a 'lucky dip' every morning. It will be a bit of fun (in a slightly pathetic way) and will be interesting to see which lipsticks I get excited about pulling out and which I'm maybe not that fond of anymore

Anyone else fancy it?

Matte lipsticks can be saved if you find them too drying. Lots of balm, them the lipstick, then blot away to leave a stain.

Lisa Eldridge does it a lot, so if it's good enough for her....

Lottapianos · 15/01/2017 08:35

MAC Lady Danger is a very wearable orange red

You guys have inspired me to try out all my lipsticks. I wore a lip stain I had from a Laura geller kit yesterday and I looked too made up, but I realised from a post written earlier that I needed to calm down my eye makeup.

So I'm going to try again and wear my Dior orange/red today as it really is lovely for brightening my face, I need to dye my hair but am skint so I'll style it and put some lipstick on instead!

BusterGonad · 15/01/2017 09:51

Pretty Dior orange red sounds lovely! 💄

SapphireSeptember · 15/01/2017 17:50

Pinkie I'd recommend GOSH Flirty Orange and Revlon Black Cherry, both of which are inexpensive. Grin

Going a bit more upmarket, I wore MAC's Leap Of Delight, a limited edition one they did for Christmas. It's a dark purple matte, it's a lovely colour but now I need some lip balm! I got a compliment today, one of the girls at church said she liked it, and that it really suited me, which is nice to know. Smile

AnotherPinkiePieStory · 15/01/2017 18:41

Thanks sapphire. On the list to try!

Today was Kiko nude limited edition lip product. Liner one end, lip stick other. Can't recommend as looked a bit corpse like and too glossy but not sure I'm binning just yet. Will give it another outing. This project has really helped me look forward to morning make up. Thanks guys! Great thread lotta

Chantecaille Calla Lily today. perfectly nice warm rose/red, but also quite bla overall. Looks similar to Surratt Eglantine on but the Surratt just feels sooooo much nicer.

I have totally fallen out of love with my collection of Chantecaille Lip Chics. Most have only been used once or twice, but they feel too £££ to throw away, so what to do with them??

SapphireSeptember · 15/01/2017 22:54

Give them away? I only ever throw away make up that's gone off, anything else I give away. Women's shelters take gently used make up, as do some charity shops. Or find a friend or family member that you know will love them. (I've been looking up the brands mentioned, woah! That's some very posh make up. 💜 it!) I remember a Lancome advert from a few years ago that had heart shaped lipstick slices involved (at least I think it was them) with all these pretty colours. I really wanted them, and think I might just treat myself to one just because I can. (Preferably orange or purple.) They still do those ones, but I'm not sure if the colours are the same.

Ooh, Pinkie I love Kiko, two of my favourite orange lipsticks are by them, sadly discontinued now. Sad And I never got around to getting their Taupe lipstick. Sad

On another note, whenever a new lipstick range came out I used to make a beeline for the bright pink one, now I tend to go for the orange or purple. I still wear bright pink lippy on a regular basis, but I think I like those other colours equally as much now.

BusterGonad · 16/01/2017 03:54

Well I had a day of it yesterday, I picked my son up from school and though f it, I've still got my ear infection and decided, as all good mums do to get him a Happy Meal for his dinner as I'm too ill to cook! We went to the mall and McDs passes the shop which sales Pupa....big mistake, in my sad feeling sorry for myself state I bought some more Pupa, this time from their Velvet Garden range! I feel a bit guilty but it has cheered me up!

Hope your ear is better soon, Buster! That new makeup looks lovely.

Lucky dip is Bite Pepper, which is a nice plummy MLBB shade, feels lovely. Not particularly striking, but definitely good enough to keep.

BusterGonad · 16/01/2017 10:21

Thank you Leedy if my ear is better I may go out on Friday for a drink, if I do I'll wear the new lipstick, it's called Burgundy Poppy! It's so luscious! It was the last one!

Lottapianos · 16/01/2017 10:36

Feel better soon Buster!

Charlotte Tilbury's Lost Cherry today - how I love it. Matte but extremely comfortable, beautiful pinky-coral colour, all round loveliness Smile

Sorry to hear you're so poorly Buster. But oh my, that lipstick looks lovely. Flowers 💄

Also, Pupa do a black lipstick! (I'm terrible. Grin Amazon sell them, but not the black or orange or dark purple.

Dunno what I'm wearing yet, possibly one of the Essence matte lipsticks I've yet to try on. They released eight colours and we got seven in the UK, trying to find the other one is annoying me!

SapphireSeptember · 16/01/2017 11:03

Nevermind, found it now! Payday is on Friday, so hopefully they'll still be some left... I've ordered from the website I found it on before. Smile

BusterGonad · 16/01/2017 12:05

I'll look for the black one sapphire, I've got to be honest I've not seen it before though! I've got a orange peachy Matt lip fluid from Pupa but it does give me the dreaded yellow teeth look! 😬

SapphireSeptember · 16/01/2017 14:48

My teeth are just yellow no matter what I wear (I don't like using whitening products on my teeth, they're fragile enough as it is!) So I just go with the flow and wear whatever lipstick I want.

Lipstick I decided on is Esscence matt matt matt in Perfect Match. It's a pretty nude colour that doesn't disappear on me. Someone very nice did swatches of all of them, the one I was having trouble getting hold of is Red-y Or Not. (I think they're darker in real life, It's A Statement looks like a matte version of Revlon's Chocolicious on me, and Pink Up Your Life is brighter.)

SapphireSeptember · 16/01/2017 15:01

Just thinking about it, black lipstick makes my teeth look really yellow, black nail polish makes my fingers look really yellow too...I think the issue here is black. Sad Oh well. I'll just have to put up with it. Grin

BusterGonad · 16/01/2017 15:54

I like purple power and it's a statement. So they are swatches of Esscence lipsticks I gather?

BusterGonad · 16/01/2017 15:55

The yellow teeth only get worse with age. I hate yellow teeth but I'm like you and just get on with it as if I've not noticed! Grin

SapphireSeptember · 16/01/2017 18:28

Yup Buster, because I'm A) too lazy to do them myself, and B) both the lighting in my room and my camera work skills leave a lot to be desired! Grin

That's the way to do it! Most things get worse with age it seems, but the ability to not give a damn seems to improve.

BusterGonad · 16/01/2017 19:04

Very true, even with clothes I'm far more adventurous than I was in my early 20s. I know think, yes I have a big tummy but do I really care? I've looked this way more or less for years so let's get on with it and wear what I please. Within reason, I'm not going to rock a cropped T-shirt or anything!

SapphireSeptember · 16/01/2017 21:09

I'm part of the big tummy club too, so I hear you. I've started wearing brighter coloured clothes than I used to, still with a gothy vibe, so for instance, I'll wear a bright yellow top with a long black skirt, combat boots and a spiky dog collar, match my eyeshadow to my top, and then wear lipstick in a dark colour. And then I'll get funny looks. Grin Life is too short to be boring! I've always loved bright eyeshadows, they used to be one of my few concessions to colour, and bright pink lipstick. But bright pink goes wonderfully well with black anyway. Smile

BusterGonad · 17/01/2017 06:32

I've just sorted my make up and am having a huge clear out! I've re tried on my Pupa I'm a mat lip fluid and I love them all!!! I've got lip sticks that are the same age as my son (8) and I think they need to go. I've got loads of cheapys I don't wear and I have a friend who's just getting into lippys so I shall pass them onto her. Don't even ask about the nail polishes! Barry M had a sale £1 each! God I went wild!

SapphireSeptember · 17/01/2017 09:55

I've got lipsticks that are older than your son! Grin I have two 17 lipsticks that I've had since I was seventeen! I think they're still okay, but I refuse to get rid of them, sentimental value more than anything. (I did just panic, thinking I'd got rid of them, but I found them!) Then there's a Barry M one I've had for quite a long time. I think I need to replace it, they still do that colour thankfully. (Punky Pink, a lovely bright pink.)

Yes to the big clear out, I've just had one. It wasn't too painful. I just think about the space I'm making for new things. Mostly nail polish and eyeshadow, the lipsticks I no longer wanted I got rid of a while ago.

BusterGonad · 17/01/2017 13:55

I always get worried I'll regret it but a lipstick that's 7/8 years old cannot be good for you! I've got equal amounts of wanted and unwanted and each time I look in the unwanted I take something back out!!!!
