Continuing from the previous thread. It's always so lovely to see new posters come and talk perfume. Everyone is welcome. Come and tell us your SOTD ( scent of the day) or ask us anything perfumey. Someone will know the answer! Get stuck in and get sniffing. You'll find no snobbery here!

I've just taken advantage of DH being away (on a jolly) for the night and ordered a bottle of Madonna Truth or Dare Naked from eBay, wildly influenced by all the recommendations here Wink... super cheap though.

BaronessBomburst · 04/11/2016 21:43

Well I made it out of the office alive!
No one fell at my feet or commented on my perfume but the HR guy demanded a peck on the cheek before I'd even got my coat off. There was banter, innuendo and giggles with my manager, I got patted on the back, walloped over the head with a magazine, given a glass of a bitter orange vodka cocktail, and was apparently made an offer by someone from the workshop although I wasn't listening and missed it.
I'm not sure it was the perfume though. That's a pretty regular day for a Friday.
I'm in again on Monday. Maybe I should try a Tauer for some sophistication?

i've randomly been up since 4am uggggggggggh

VintagePerfumista · 05/11/2016 07:47

I realise now I've been a galbanum junkie too, for some time....Vent Vert, 19, Givenchy 3, Ysatis in my top 10 of all time, and recently loved Fidji, Private Collection and want to try vintage Ma Griffe. Wasn't much fussed about Silences or MMM tbh.

Yay for Badders' Mum, she smells gorgeous tell her!

Hopefully my Vent Vert will arrive today, and if it is the real thing, I will have 100ml of vintage juice so may be able to supply some of you with a shot or two if you fancy it!

I have decided to facilitate my budding perfumista dd by buying her lots of miniatures etc at Christmas....whilst gently steering her in the Right Direction (ie not pink sugary things Grin) Any suggestions for a 13 yr old who likes Chanel Chance (green) and My Burberry ? Or just 13 yr olds in general?

Badders123 · 05/11/2016 08:10

Vintage....check out lush...not the first place you think of for perfume! - but they do roll ons of all their fragrances

FrustratedFrugal · 05/11/2016 09:23

It's snowing outside and I'm wearing Mitsouko.

ThirtySixViewsOfMountFuji · 05/11/2016 10:00

I love the sound of Mitsouko - I have read descriptions of it but never smelled it myself. How would you describe it Frugal ?

FrustratedFrugal · 05/11/2016 10:25

When I first tried it, Mitsouko reminded me of elderly relatives in musty fur coats. I found it retro and dated and impossible to wear.

These days, I smell jammy plummy warmth mixed with the smell of warm clean skin. The perfume gives an impression of softness and sensuality but underneath it's very structured, like a corset made of leather and whalebones. It makes me feel good.

My Mitsouko is a vintage extrait from the 1980s. I've tried several others but this one is by far my favorite version.

ThirtySixViewsOfMountFuji · 05/11/2016 10:29

Superb imagery Frugal thanks so much! I will look out for it Smile

MontanaSkies · 05/11/2016 10:43

I love your description of Mitsouko frugal. I must try it again - I try it every year or so but have never quite managed to "get" it.

SOTD is ELdO Like This. Spicy, warming buttery ginger. It has a lovely dry (iris I think) drydown which stops it going into full on "gingerbread man" territory. Perfect for this sudden chill.

BaronessBomburst · 05/11/2016 10:53

There was something in Mitsouko that always reminded me of coconut. I used to wear it a lot in the 80s. I liked it in summer.
I'm going to have to try it again now!

OCSockOrphanage · 05/11/2016 12:40

SoTD is La Myrrh (SL) because I caved and bought a sample of only 1ml (all that was left). A kind person on one of these threads gave me a remnant vial last winter and I have been looking for a bigger test ever since. I do love it, but can't define it. As another galbanum fan, I think La Myrrh might appeal to people who enjoy its slightly bitter note.

After all the talk here, I also bought 2ml of Portrait of a Lady because I read so much love for it. That will be tomorrow's treat.

Mitsouko is my mother's signature, therefore I have never tried it.

Badders123 · 05/11/2016 13:38

Ah
Mitsuko
One of the ones I've tried and failed to like Sad
I'm tempted by an e bay bottle of cinnabar Confused

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 05/11/2016 19:34

My local house of Fraser has been tarted up and the guerlain section much expanded. The lady tried to tempt me with a robe noire flanker, I quickly corrected her, finally tried vol de nuit-lovely. She said she'd been sent two bottles of Shalimar (I want to say) gold? No tester though, at £100 a bottle a bit much to buy blind.
My pp portrait of a lady is huge! And a silage monster. I put a squirt on before bed and it was still going strong this morning. That harsh edge went completely. I wore the Oud Ispahan today, I. Was asked what I was wearing by two of the women on the bobbi brown counter. They probably think I'm a big spender now. [ grin]
I got an April Violet body spray from boots for 1.50, I'm either using it as room spray or giving it to dd as she loves violet and it reminds her if her gran.

VintagePerfumista · 05/11/2016 19:43

I'm going to have to get some of this Portrait of a Lady aren't I, if it's becoming the latest thread secret sign! I think when I ordered from PP it was OOS, so I just got Carnal Flower....

There is a thread in S&B with a poster looking for a perfume she used to have in a pink glass cone shaped bottle, anyone have any ideas?

OCSockOrphanage · 06/11/2016 10:09

I think we may have lemming tendencies, Vintage.

Can one of you please remind me of the PP full information? I CBA to trawl for it, and having used some of my credit at the sample shop, it would be interesting to try the dupe Portrait alongside the real juice.

I also got a bit of Bulgari Black, based on Luca Turin's rave review I read ages ago. Haven't really tried it, maybe today as I fancy leather and rubber and am almost out of Dzing!

BaronessBomburst · 06/11/2016 10:34

Went for a sniff in a big German department store yesterday. No celeb scents at all, and no Guerlain either; I was looking for Mitsouko.
I got very excited about a perfume sample advent calendar until I realised it was mainly Jill Sanders, with a small bottle of Sun as the main prize.
I have decided I don't particularly like Dior. Diorissimo is horrid, Dune was forgettable, and whilst at first Miss Dior reminded me of TF Black Orchid enough that I even sprayed in on me, it soon settled into meh.
I realise that some of you, inc ViP may never speak to me again.
DS left smelling of Poison for Men. I never even knew that existed!

FrustratedFrugal · 06/11/2016 11:43

Baroness we'll speak to you of course - likes and dislikes are very personal. The great thing about perfume is that there is a lot of variety. There is something for everyone!

It's still snowing here, and below zero. Today is the day for Coromandel. Coco is also great.

VintagePerfumista · 06/11/2016 13:12

Ach, look at me hating your Fire thing that you all went squiffy about! When I rushed home going getitoffmenow Grin

Diorissimo is probably my least favourite of my big 4 Diors.

I have just realised I've had a shower and not put any perfume on, so in honour of Baroness, I think I'll go for Diorella!

I wore Coromandel last night, and oddly, that seemed very Dunesque for some reason! It's never done that before on me, I even checked my phials to make sure I hadn't confused them, but Dune is definitely orange and Coromandel definitely isn't!

PP is perfume-parlour I think.

MaryField · 06/11/2016 13:31

The mention of Pretty Peach has led me on a travel-back-in-time journey through my perfumes and I realise that in 60 years I've barely tried any! After Pretty Peach I was hooked on Gingham for years, then Diorella when I could afford it. For the last 20 years or more I've only used O de Lancôme. Two weeks ago I decided to have a change and have just started on Molecule One which I love on other people but can't smell on me! I will finish the bottle then maybe have another think. I might have to sample some of the suggestions here.

BaronessBomburst · 06/11/2016 13:47

Not sniffed Diorella yet. They didn't have any.

BaronessBomburst · 06/11/2016 13:49

Where are you FrustratedFrugal, if we may ask?

MontanaSkies · 06/11/2016 15:15

Ah, I have a special love for Diorissimo as it's the first perfume I ever remember smelling - my mum wore it when I was little. I used to unscrew the houndstooth-check lid of the splash bottle and sneak little sniffs. Apparently it's been reformulated out of all recognition now but I haven't smelt it in years.

SOTD is Etro Shaal Nur. I love it and it's going on the wish list!
