Continuing from the previous thread. It's always so lovely to see new posters come and talk perfume. Everyone is welcome. Come and tell us your SOTD ( scent of the day) or ask us anything perfumey. Someone will know the answer! Get stuck in and get sniffing. You'll find no snobbery here!

Forgot to add SOTD!
4160 Tuesday's - Rose Ribes

CoffeeMilkNoSugar · 02/11/2016 21:49

SOTN Amouage Interlude woman :)
This stuff seriously stinks. In the best possible way. Smoky, sweet, sour and... burnt-plasticky. I just love this glorious glorious stinker

Hello Ladies - I was ReadyToSignOff, but that was thread specific and I'm sooo over that now! (Youngest DC is now safely packed off to uni.) SOTD was the Perfume Parlour version of Tom Ford Cafe Rose, as I was attending a fashion show aka an overstock sale at my local primary school this evening and wanted to exude an Anna Wintour level of sophistication. I sampled the real thing last weekend and if memory serves, it is quite a close match. It's very sniffable!

Badders123 · 03/11/2016 06:55

I'm going to order FM portrait of a lady from pp
You've all made me do it
Grin

ThirtySixViewsOfMountFuji · 03/11/2016 08:27

Oh no Badders I didn't realise that PP did that one or I would have ordered Portrait of a Lady too Envy please let me know what it is like and I will get one next time (I should wait a long time now though as I have so many different perfumes from there... not quite so cheap when you want to try EVERYTHING but want spray rather than perfume oil).
From my delivery yesterday, the Flowerbomb Rose Explosion is gorgeous (big bottle purchased Grin ), Cafe Rose really nice, and the Black Orchid and Blue Sapphire copies are ones to try out properly before I decide (just sprayed them on card so far). The Lolita Lempicka is indeed liquoricey and quite sweet and lovely (I think) but I only bought the oil, so it is difficult to tell. Fantastic website though...

CoffeeMilkNoSugar · 03/11/2016 08:32

Are PP oils good then? I've been thinking about getting their Midnight Poison oil (I miss MP sooo muuuuch :( ) and perhaps Santal Blush, and maybe some other stuff for layering/experimenting/adding to bathwater/adding to washing... SO MANY POSSIBILITIES! :D

YvaineStormhold · 03/11/2016 08:33

Can I join the thread to say thank you for finding me my new favourite perfume EVER?

I got Narciso Rodriguez Poudree the other day thanks to you lot, and it is beautiful.

ThirtySixViewsOfMountFuji · 03/11/2016 09:34

The oils smell good when you have your nose pressed against your wrist in my experience I have added them to baths along with unseated bubbles, which was great Smile. I tried adding some to unscented shower gel/hair wash but it used a lot of oil, so I'm not sure I would do it again. I just prefer to spray as it projects more.

ThirtySixViewsOfMountFuji · 03/11/2016 09:35

*I mean unscented bubbles of course!

MissBattleaxe · 03/11/2016 10:56

Yvaine- I love the Poudree! It's beautiful. Great choice.

Hello, I kept falling off the other thread, forgetting to post. SOTD here is Heeley Hippie Rose which I love, but feel like I could do with something "cosier" - it's really damp and chilly here today.

Cockblocktopus · 03/11/2016 12:05

Win today here. Home to find two parcels for me. One from a local seller with Sycomore decant. Another from Perfumed Court with gypsy rose as it had been missed out from my last order.

So SOTD was Sycomore be I adore it. Starts of tricky on me but just becomes fabulous. I'm still getting lovely gusts.

CoffeeMilkNoSugar · 03/11/2016 12:23

SOTD Dior Addict Eau Fraiche 2014.

It's really really pretty, but am I the only one who thinks Francois Demachy is the most boring and repetitive nose out there nowadays?

teta · 03/11/2016 12:26

Roger and gallet Jean farina Bienfat today. Its a moisturising spray of Neroli, orange blossom and Violet leaf and and can be sprayed all over. Smells divine and uplifting for the gym this morning.
Ordered Tresor yesterday in the mini Fragrance shop sale.I've very recently discovered it ,though it must have been everywhere in my youth.I do recognise the way it smells but perhaps Tresor was too mature for me for me to notice it much then.
Wore vintage Paris yesterday and several individuals commented on how lovely it was.I used to wear it when young and I really disliked the Sandalwood dry down .But I appear to have grown into it and adore this now.

Badders123 · 03/11/2016 13:00

I will have to take a rain check on ordering the FM - my car just had to have a new battery ConfusedSad
My youth dew decant has arrived - it's a lovely scent - I'm glad I got it and will wear it but I prefer knowing

AnotherPinkiePieStory · 03/11/2016 13:54

Hello new faces and lovely smellers! I'm waiting for 2 parcels from eBay: j lo deseo and Jessica Simpson fancy nights. Yes ladies I am that classy! Meant to be lovely but quite embarrassed to be following such an esteemed crowd!
thirtysix agree. I'm going to be sprays all the way now.
Sotd pp lime basil mandarin. Lovely and quite comforting while son is back in day hospital

CoffeeMilkNoSugar · 03/11/2016 14:06

Nothing wrong with celeb fumes :P Some are pretty grim, but I have a few I love. Rihanna Rogue, for example, is a masterpiece IMHO :)

ilovecherries · 03/11/2016 14:15

Ooh, can I play? I'm on the hunt for the perfect replacement smell. I used to love Opium (the original one with the brown lid) and Guerlain Mitsouko when I was younger and while I do still love them in theory, in practice I don't think they suit me now I'm older. Not sure if it's because they smell dated or if it's that they actually just don't suit me as much. So I'm looking for something more modern, but still that warm, sexy, spicy sort of smell. Any recommendations?

Also, while tripping down memory lane, does anyone else remember Goya's Aqua Manda? It's not been made for decades, though I did find what was might to be a smell-a-like a couple of years ago, but it was very disappointing, nothing like (my memories of) the original.

Monkeybunkey · 03/11/2016 14:15

My latest Avon order has just arrived which contains Christian Lacroix Bijou for her, my current favourite perfume. Am also a big fan of Ghost (original) and Ghost sweetheart.

Badders123 · 03/11/2016 14:19

Cherries...Opium was one of my faves too
I've just bought knowing by Estes lauder...I love it!

VintagePerfumista · 03/11/2016 14:31

Hello lovelies!

I started off this morning in Cuir de Russie Chanel decant. Meh. Underwhelmed after expecting a mega-monster-classic. Nice enough and very understated but if I want leather I want Clint Eastwood bending me over and horsewhipping me with it, not a gentle sniff of someone's sofa.

Or something. In any case, within an hour of school (during which time I rescued a cat which had got in to the second floor and was terrorising the kids Hmm and staff alike, so I got a bit of eau de Scared Tom on me as well) it had gone. Nada. Nothing. Rien.

It is def not a patch on my beloved Cuir Cordoba, which in answer to previous Q is on my Christmas list to myself. Dp would die if he knew perfume could cost that much though, so will be present for self, because I keep worrying it will go discontinued.

Came home and had a roll of PP Cabotine. Now who the feckery wore this? I am immediately taken to 1996, 2 years after I first arrived here, so one of my two flatmates must have had it. S'nice. Not FB nice. And most inappropriate for November, but it's nice.

I am watching some vintage Paris on ebay. Currently only waiting for my FB of Vent Vert which will either be a) genuinely vintage in which case truly bargainous or b) not, in which case I've a white elephant on my hands.

ilovecherries- have you tried Coromandel? Shalimar? Youth Dew? None of which are modern (not sure how old Coromandel is) but they all have that air of Opium/Obsession/spicy oriental about them at various points.

NetHag · 03/11/2016 14:45

Hello all. Complete perfume idiot here, so be patient with me Grin

I really want to find a new perfume, as bored of my usual, but literally cannot seem to find anything I like in the bog standard perfume selling places (department stores, Boots etc).

I've been wearing either the original Stella McCartney (which I still love) or Stella Nude (slightly gone off this) for years, and recently was given a small sample bottle of DKNY A Drop Of Rose, which I quite like.

I do like all rose scents, actually, but I'd like something that isn't pure rose, iyswim.

Any suggestions?

VintagePerfumista · 03/11/2016 14:54

My favourite rose remains Paris.

Hippie Rose by Heeley is Rose with a big smack-your-face of Patchouli

Guerlain Nahema is rose.

If you put your favourites into Fragrantica website it will list you "things you might like" (although I find it a bit hit and miss as it seems to list almost everything in existence!)

Here is another list www.nstperfume.com/2012/12/21/25-rose-fragrances-every-perfumista-should-try/

Badders123 · 03/11/2016 15:00

I was in your position last month...in the end I went for knowing by Estée Lauder but in your case I would suggest nahema too
It's gorgeous
