Continuing from the previous thread. It's always so lovely to see new posters come and talk perfume. Everyone is welcome. Come and tell us your SOTD ( scent of the day) or ask us anything perfumey. Someone will know the answer! Get stuck in and get sniffing. You'll find no snobbery here!

Thanks, Vintage! I will take a look at that link.

See, I don't like Paris at all. Too sickly sweet for me.

Badders123 · 03/11/2016 15:10

Nope
Not Paris for me either

NetHag · 03/11/2016 15:21

Nahema sounds intriguing...

I've just read loads about about fragrance families - very interesting. Loads I didn't know.

ilovecherries · 03/11/2016 15:37

Vintage - shalimar! THAT was the third one in my trio, but just couldn't remember it's name. Youth Dew was what my mum always wore, I still feel a bit teary when I smell it (although my mum is happily still alive and well, but she's nearly 90 and doesn't like perfume any more). Coromandel I'm not familiar with, will check it out.

Ookmybanana · 03/11/2016 16:02

SOTD: Coco Mademoiselle. New big bottle, thank you Advantage card points!

But I miss my favourite ever scent which was V/S By Versace. Came in a round bottle similar to Chanel's Chance but with no way to stand it up. It reminded me of sherbet. Citrusy and woody and I loved it. Discontinued it in 200something and I never found a replacement close to it. If anyone has any ideas, I'd love to sniff them!

teta · 03/11/2016 16:22

Bethany if you want to sample several Roses BeautySpin is good for samples.
I love:
Rose/violets - Paris,Lipstick Rose,drole de rose
Rosy/flowers -Crystal flowers,Nahema (full-on bouquet),Jacinthe et rose
Musky rose - Roses Musk,Mona di orio Musc.
Perfumes de Rosine do a sample pack of different roses you can order online as do other sample sites.Try Bloom and Nose ( France)for sample packs as well.

MissBattleaxe · 03/11/2016 17:47

NetHag- I tried Balenciaga Rosabotanica recently and really liked it. It's not too sweet and a slightly more grown up rose than the sickly sweet stuff that's everywhere now.

Kenzo Flower is quite violetty.

I am wearing Vol de Nuit by Guerlain, which is woody and mossy, a bit like an alternative Miss Dior (Originale)

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 03/11/2016 17:58

Pinky, my dm was to be found in Yardley April violets, cheap, very long lasting. Or I noticed on tk maxx clearance there is Crabtree and Evelyn Violetta. (I love it too, but it's mum)
I've ordered pp version of Portrait, will report back. They were out of Ambre Oud, so I've gone for their Caleche dupe.
Today was collllllddddddd. So a big hug of Samsara.

AnotherPinkiePieStory · 03/11/2016 18:20

nethag I recommend jo Malone velvet rose and oud. Quite a heavy hitter but I'm not a huge girly rose fan. This is a wonderful Rose for winter.
Totally get the underwhelmingness of cuir de russie. It was a sample from perfumista yesterday and expected to love it from description but disappointed like you. Just increased me desire for sycamore really!

VintagePerfumista · 03/11/2016 18:27

I have the PP version of Vol de Nuit. Love it (also the name)

VintagePerfumista · 03/11/2016 18:29

ooooh, OC's local scent sampley place will deliver to Italy seemingly. (Dunno why many places won't, maybe my dh has told them not to!)

hollinhurst84 · 03/11/2016 18:34

SOTD - 4160 Tuesday's - mother natures naughty daughter. Love this

Foxyspook · 03/11/2016 18:40

VP, I love the name as much as the perfume, Vol de Nuit,

Cockblocktopus · 04/11/2016 05:13

SOTD is Gypsy Water. In a good way it smells like a sauna - warm, woody, ceder sweet. I like it a lot.

BaronessBomburst · 04/11/2016 08:01

SOTD is FM Portrait of a Lady as I'm off to the office. There are only men in the office and workshop. Loads of them.
I'll let you know what happens......!
😂😂

Badders123 · 04/11/2016 08:04

I'm off to have rather major changes to my hair today!....so I'm going to give youth dew a go

teachergirl2011 · 04/11/2016 08:07

I wear Cacheral's "Eden" during the day and Estee Lauder's "Spellbound" or "Beautiful" at night x

VintagePerfumista · 04/11/2016 09:45

I love Beautiful, I always think that the name was inspired, because it just is.

I need to try more of these Estee Lauders, because I am very impressed with the ones I have tried so far.

I started off intending Shalimar, but then discovered I only had a teensy tinesy puff left in the sample, so have topped it off with Cuir Cordoba. Smile The Shalimar also leaves me a bit powdery-underwhelmed. Compared to other orientals, or other powders, it seems very generic somehow. (this was a free sample sent with my Chanel decants so am wondering if it has been reformulated? I mean, it's classy, and elegant, and timeless, there just doesn't seem the extra ooomph that say L'Heure Bleue has (if we are talking powdery)

Badders123 · 04/11/2016 09:50

My mum loves youth dew and wants to buy some!! Grin
I Iove knowing - oriental sexiness and very classy imo
Love love love cinnabar too by that's proper hard core oriental

Happy to enable any keen perfumista, Vintage! It makes me feel less guilt.

SoTD is a spritz of Agarwoud (Heeley) to see if it is season appropriate. Not convinced by the first sniff. It is cold, damp and misty this morning and I think it should have been Chergui.

Shorteralls · 04/11/2016 10:20

Ooh, pleased there is a new thread, thank you MissBattleaxe

Reading about perfumes is such a treat.

My scent of the day is Timbuktu topped with a waft of Herba Fresca, courtesy of my samples/decant swap with the lovely Lastimeround Thank you Last Smile

Thatwaslulu · 04/11/2016 10:21

Does anyone else like the Arabic perfumes? I like Ajmal's Shadow.

My signature scent is Coco Mademoiselle though.
