Continuing from the previous thread. It's always so lovely to see new posters come and talk perfume. Everyone is welcome. Come and tell us your SOTD ( scent of the day) or ask us anything perfumey. Someone will know the answer! Get stuck in and get sniffing. You'll find no snobbery here!

I bet the older formulation is amazing vintage, it might be the only time I've been glad of a dabber vial rather than a spray!

Futur is gorgeous too, very green and quite similar to Vent Vert.

VintagePerfumista · 15/02/2017 20:24

Just put a squirt of Anais Anais on for bedtime. 30 yrs ago tonight I boarded a night train and crossed Europe (Belgium-France-Spain) to attempt to get the love of my life back by wearing what I'd worn the first time around (ie trendy leggings, lots of hippy bangles, big Bonnie Tyler hair and AA Grin)

Olfactory memory par excellence...

Pestilentialone · 15/02/2017 20:29

Vintage is it bedtime with the same love of your life?

Littlebatcalledlucille · 15/02/2017 20:35

VintagePerfumista · 15/02/2017 21:39

Pest- Blush nope. Grin

Littlebat- lots of All About Eve on ebay. Quite cheap too. What does it smell like?

VintagePerfumista · 15/02/2017 21:42

Never heard of NOTINO

MrsSchadenfreude · 15/02/2017 21:56

SOTD is 4160 Tuesdays "What I Did on My Holidays." It's as strong as when I put it on this morning. I seem to have a slight allergy to it as my skin went red instantly where I had sprayed. I like it, but don't love it. I get mint, sweetness and sea air from it. DD2 said she can only smell coconut, which I don't get at all. It's the same with Goodbye Piccadilly, which is strongly lavender to me, but not old lady lavender, whereas DD only gets violets.

GreenPolishToGo · 15/02/2017 22:35

That is bad luck about the allergy MrsS. My sample of What I Did On My Holidays is disappearing rapidly since DD has fallen in love with it too. She says it reminds her of a day at Westward Ho! which is, I suppose, the general idea of it. I love it but I'm not sure if the seaside impression is just suggestion for me. Goodbye Piccadilly is definitely violets and leather here.

SOTD is 4160 Tuesdays Rome 1963. Very classy. I hope my cats appreciated it.

MrsCocoa · 16/02/2017 01:29

Evening All - thanks to inspiration from Barbara Herman and Vintage, I became the happy owner of an old sample of Chanel No. 19 today. It's extraordinary stuff: clear green, with iris/mossy/leather heart notes. Need to smell the current formulation alongside.

Green - you're right about the Youth Dew demographic. Wasn't a day to smell like anyone's Nan - but Fracas and Bandit would've been inspirational.

Had just finished making a lemon marscapone cake when I saw the ref here to 4160's latest crowd funding venture. This is also lemon - which I took to be a sign. At least February is a short month.

VintagePerfumista · 16/02/2017 09:31

Right- that's decided me. Have been hovering over a vintage miniature of 19 but hesitating because I'm always a bit wary of miniatures for some reason....am going to plunge.

SoTD is Liz Earle 15. So basically I smell like a bloke on the pull in the early 90s. (I should have waited with the LE, I was in Boots at the airport and wanted a FB of n1 but they had sold out, so I got the sampler set with 3 x 10mls of 1, 9, 15- 1 is fabulous, have always loved it. Crisp, green, botanical, classy. 15 isn't a minger, but it seems very dated. It smells like it's thinking about being Angel, or Obsession, or Opium, but just daren't, so it's going for a masculine vanilla thing) One of the reviews on Fragrantica says "you either love this one, or you love LE n1" which about sums it up for me!

LesIncompetents · 16/02/2017 12:00

Inspired by the cheap fumes thread- SOTD is SJP Lovely, which I shall be wearing to the most definitely NOT lovely soft play this afternoon. Hoping it might combat the Eau de sweaty 5 year old Grin

teta · 16/02/2017 15:53

Wrappings today.I really love the brisk lemon n woodiness of this - also is quite invigorating.Had to finish off dd1's project today so needed a pick-me-up.I also have had a bad cold so can't smell much .I think I might have sprayed too much Mona do Orio's musc for a meeting the other day Wink.

GreenPolishToGo · 16/02/2017 21:32

Chanel 19 and I are old friends. I wore it for years and I think of it as sharp green-smelling elegance in a bottle. I used to have a big splash bottle but it met a sad fate when DD was small and had just started learning French. She saw the words "eau de toilette" and promptly poured the lot down the loo. If only it had been "eau de parfum".

I smelt the current formulation recently and I didn't recognise it. It was a very pretty shade of green but it didn't smell green any more, unlike the old straw-coloured stuff. So I'll be sticking to vintage for as long as I can still find it and, ahem, afford it.

SOTD was Chanel 19 (vintage Wink) Perfect for such a springlike day.

Pestilentialone · 16/02/2017 22:23

Samples arrived Grin SoTD is Who Knew?
Smells like a rose we sniffed out on an open garden day in the neighbouring village. DH then spent a year looking for the same rose, the gardener did not know it's name. Eventually he found one in a nursery, he was so excited they gave it to him (he is in the trade, so they know him).
So I smell like summer morning breakfast, turkish delight rose and a cup of tea.
Next sample tomorrow.
Ordered seven samples and they sent me ten Smile

VintagePerfumista · 17/02/2017 06:47

That's it, isn't it? It's that sharp edge of green in that initial spritz/splash that's not there. It's still a beautiful beautiful fragrance, but the breathtaking edge has gone.

Does anyone know if the grey/silver atomisers were initially made with the yellow stuff inside? Those are what my friend had when I first discovered it.

LesIncompetents · 17/02/2017 12:26

It's a sunny day and the talk of green scents has inspired me to dig out my decant of Vent Vert, it's just perfect.

Has anyone tried Jacomo Silences? It's supposed to be a good no 19 alternative according to Fragrantica.

OCSockOrphanage · 17/02/2017 15:35

Dzing! It's not spring green scent weather here today, it's grey and overcast, but mildish. Rubber and leather all the way! I love Dzing! although I don't wear it that often, but would really miss it if there wasn't a decant in the drawer.

GreenPolishToGo · 17/02/2017 17:52

Ooh, 10 samples, lucky, lucky Pestilential

No idea on the atomiser cases, I'm afraid VP. I do remember the Chanel 19 on my mother's dressing table in the 1970s was definitely yellow. The stuff I was buying in the late 80s and 90s was yellow with a definite tinge of green so I'm guessing the formulation was already weaker by then. I'm sure I read somewhere that Chanel had to alter the formula after the Iranian Revolution made it difficult to source galbanum resin, so that would make sense. But the modern Chanel 19 is far, far greener in colour than I ever remember it. And less green smelling, though yes, still beautiful.

Silences is on my to try list LI, Vent Vert is on my let's pinch the Tardis, go back in time and hoover up all the bottles I can find list because that initial blast of savage green is irresistible.

Continuing the green theme, SoTD is heavenly vintage Fidji. I can't be one bit objective about this one. I was given a tiny bottle in my teens and loved it. I went on wearing it for years until the awful day I went into a department store to buy a new bottle and they told me it wasn't made any more. Happily, and many thanks to this thread which prompted me to go hunting on Ebay, we are now reunited.Smile

VintagePerfumista · 17/02/2017 18:35

I have a bottle of Silences.

It's OK, now't special, it certainly bears no resemblance to 19 other than it being a fresh green.

I have a vintage Vent Vert wee cuboid bottle. It's magnificent. I also have a blind ebay buy that I can't date, which is not as magnificent but a much bigger bottle so I at least get to spray rather than just sniff!

I also have a vintage and a new Fidji. Fidji will always remind me of being on a plane in the early 80s when everyone bought something from the duty free trolley, and the impossibly glamorous lady across the aisle bought a bottle. I wanted to be her there and then.

Been doing a bit of digging about Chanel 19 bottles and packaging and think I will analyse the ebay offers tomorrow, and see what's going. I feel the need!

VintagePerfumista · 17/02/2017 18:51

These are google pics of the Vent Verts I have.

I know the wee one is old, but need to research the big one. Mine is a lot clearer than that as it was still sealed in its cellophane when I got it.

Littlebatcalledlucille · 17/02/2017 19:06

Pestilentalone, THANK YOU! you star!

Vintage, the scent is quite Apple-ey (If that makes sense)

I haven't seen it for years and thought it was discontinued and didn't want to look myself!

Thank you again Smile

One is wearing A 'scent' I picked up in new look yesterday called 'Devotion' oooo i'm a classy chick! £1.50!

GreenPolishToGo · 17/02/2017 22:13

£1.50 sounds good to me, Littlebat!

Silences has gone to the bottom of the 'to try' list while I admire the Vent Vert eye candy. A sealed bottle VP, now that was a piece of luck. So are both of them Cellier formulations despite the difference in strength, do you think?

teta · 18/02/2017 16:09

My kids said I smelt of old church in my vintage Vent Vert yesterday and it started off so promisingly like a classy version of Chanel No 19.I think the modern ones fine on me but it's completely different I believe.
Sampled Mfk's Petit matin and Le grand soir.Petit Matin is a Edp in the very traditional style of a classic cologne but with extra Lavender and Hawthorn plus Ambroxan - it's beautiful and full bottle worthy.Le Grand Soir is a heavenly Amber but probably not something I would wear too often.I would definitely keep a sample or two though.
