Continuing from the previous thread. It's always so lovely to see new posters come and talk perfume. Everyone is welcome. Come and tell us your SOTD ( scent of the day) or ask us anything perfumey. Someone will know the answer! Get stuck in and get sniffing. You'll find no snobbery here!

From a bit of digging around, I think so. I think the big bottle may be formulation #2, which most experts say is not so different from #1. I am wearing it today (totally inappropriate, it's grey and murky out) and it's sublime. I'm so sharp I could cut myself!

VintagePerfumista · 18/02/2017 16:23

I also took possession of some ancient Avon Rapture talc and soap. It's lush- (IMO) a fabulous chypre-y tang. Off to source some (undoubtedly) random and weird Avon container with the actual scent in on ebay!

GreenPolishToGo · 18/02/2017 22:28

Poor teta, but smelling of old churches beats smelling of old lady. And come to think of it, I like the smell of old churches. I'll bet you and VP both smelled sublime. Vent Vert is the sort of scent that should leave green shoots sprouting in the footsteps of the wearer. Is the modern one worth trying?

I spent the afternoon gardening so it was a good opportunity to try a miniature of Georgio Beverley Hills that came in a lovely old Boots gift set. Having read it was banned from restaurants in its 80's heyday, out of doors seemed much the best place to experiment with this nerve gas of a scent. Initially, it's the olfactory equivalent of a very loud and cacophonous brass band but it then dries down into an unexpectedly pleasant white floral. But a little certainly goes a very long way with this one.

Loving the vintage turn we've taken here. Have been in Madame Rochas and Femme this weekend. Femme is a great discovery - gemtly seductive plummy/woody/musk. Sadly, the top notes of the Madame Rochas are seriously off, so difficult to judge, but it was the only casualty in a cheap set of four miniatures. I often smell like a church (Sahara Noir, Passage d'Enfer), and often like an old lady too (just not for work meetings when exit packages are being lined up...)

Pestilentialone · 19/02/2017 14:13

SoTD is UTI Wink
When I can be bothered to get up the stairs again I will check out the two small bottles of No19 and see if they are green or yellow.

Yesterday was 4160 Another Kiss By The Fireside, warm, rosey smoke but not too much staying power. I did do about 20 bowls of washing up, so this may have affected it.

Pestilentialone · 19/02/2017 22:00

Alas both No19 samples are decidedly green.

GreenPolishToGo · 19/02/2017 22:18

Vintage is dangerously enticing, I find MrsC. All that scope for geeky comparisons of formulations, packaging, etc. I don't think I'd ever realised just how much fashions in perfume change until I started getting interested in vintage. But I do try to restrain myself by only buying absolute bargains of anything I haven't smelt in real life.

I've not tried Femme but I can see Madame Rochas would be vulnerable to deterioration unless it was stored very well. It's a light, powdery floral, pleasant and very demure - the kind of scent I could imagine a young Audrey Hepburn wearing. Actually Mademoiselle Rochas would be a better name for it.

UTI, Pestilential? Either Chanel No 5 smells the same on you as it does on me or you are suffering. If so, get well soon.Flowers. Another Kiss By The Fireside is on my 4160 Tuesdays longlist. My SoTD was another one - Careful What You Wish For - nicely woody and spicy. I think it just doesn't make the wishlist but only just.

MrsCocoa · 20/02/2017 00:03

Speaking of AH, has anyone smelt L'Interdit?

With you on Another Kiss Green - on my list too.

shins · 20/02/2017 00:25

Amazing vintage find in a fleamarket today -a 224 ml bottle of Dior Eau Sauvage for a tenner! I can't figure out how old but I'm guessing 80s? It's got a lovely oakmossy depth to it. I've been digging round online trying to date it and it seems to be a rather unusual quantity. Feel a tiny bit guilty knowing the stallholder could've got at least a hundred quid for it on ebay but not that guilty Grin

MrsCocoa · 20/02/2017 01:10

Great find Shins. Was hunting in junk shops myself at the weekend but I only spotted an ancient bottle of a Grossmith lavender and was too nervous to purchase.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 20/02/2017 01:30

I remember Giorgio and Poison being banned at my work.(well, I say bbanned, mean we threatened to duff the wearers up (again not really))
Thoughts in the oh what household are turning to spring. I need a new scent to welcome warmer days. What I've wanted for years is mm untitled, but ££ and never decanted. So green as grass. What do we recommend oh wise ones? G(esp if pp do a version)

VintagePerfumista · 20/02/2017 07:55

If you want green and cheap, then have a pop at Yardley Jade!

I am in Eau du Sud this morning (Annick Goutal) and it is exactly the same (prob bar the longevity) as Yardley Jade. I always thought Jade was a dead-ringer for Cristalle, but it's slightly different. The Eau du Sud is identical. Have that on one hand and Jade on the other.

Re: vintage bargains- the cube Vent Vert I have was 8 euro together with a wee miniature bottle of very old Fracas. I've seen the same size VV for 50 euro on ebay. Nobody is buying it at that price though of course.

Did you check Raiders of the lost scent for the Eau Sauvage dating Shins?
raidersofthelostscent.blogspot.it/2013/10/how-to-recognize-christian-dior.html There are also often threads about Dior dating on Basenotes.

VintagePerfumista · 20/02/2017 08:20

Oh, rummaging in my box I have just remembered another bargain- a set of 3 Givenchy miniatures, a III, an Eau de Givenchy and ??? can't remember what the other one was, possibly Monsieur Givenchy. For £4.99 ebay.

teta · 20/02/2017 08:54

Oh,just woke up this morning ,opened the kitchen door and stepped into something squelchy .....yes you,be guessed it ,the dog had major diarrhoea .Not a good olfactory moment!!
Good greens for spring are Chanel Cristalle edp,Ormonde Jayne Tiare,Fleur de matin for when its a bit warmer.Nerolia bianco - bitter orange is great and pretty green from all of the tree plus Mfk Petit Matin which Mfk describe as an aromatic green .I think it's more like a green floral musk but it has a specific lemon accord from the leaves of the Litsea tree which apparently renders it green .Finally Clinique Wrappings is a stiff mossy lemony green that's great in cold weather .

MrsCocoa · 20/02/2017 09:07

Wow - am going to try that tip Vintage - Eau de Sud makes it onto my desert island list. (Mediterranean summer holidays).

Trying to think about other greens for Ohwhat - haven't tried the MM but see it has a big blast of galbanum (did we get here from Vent Vere - am trying to keep uo....?).

Not quite in the same vein but the best I can come up with are those citrussy greens: Eau de Courreges/O de Lancome/Eau de Rochas. Or the fabulous fggy green of Ninfeo Mio.

You're making me realise I am surrounded by warm, comforting scents right now and am ill prepared for spring!

LesIncompetents · 20/02/2017 10:20

Ohwhatfuckery Carven's Ma Griffe might be worth a try too, you can still get vintage bottles fairly cheap on eBay. Also vintage Ralph Lauren Safari, I find it really hard to describe as it's quite complex- not full on green but I think there's a good dose of galbanum in there.

Shins what a fantastic find! I love treasure hunting at markets and car boots. Can't wait for car boot season to start again!

Been having fun this morning rotating my perfumes- most of the time they live in a storage box under the bed but I keep 4-5 on a little mirrored tray on the dresser so that they're within easy reach and so I can admire their loveliness Grin
After a few weeks I put them back and choose another lot to go on the tray. Yes, I am that obsessed Grin

SOTD is Roger & Gallet's Fleur de Figuier, nothing like a bit of fig on a sunny spring day.

OCSockOrphanage · 20/02/2017 12:54

WhatFuckery, MMM untitled can be bought as a decant; I know because I have one, from Perfumed Court in the US. And not even ruinous! The PP dupe for Sycomore also has a big upfront belt of galbanum I discovered fairly recently.

VintagePerfumista · 20/02/2017 14:08

Love Safari.

Both that and Ma Griffe are on my ebay searches. Looking for the right moment lol.

Update on the Eau du Sud/Jade comparison. Eau du Sud lasts longer, for sure, am back from school now and can't smell my right hand. Left one going strong. But hey, for less than a tenner, you can spritz to your heart's content!

GreenPolishToGo · 20/02/2017 20:55

Maison Martin Margiela Untitled is such a heavenly galbanum soaked green scent I'd say it was in sell a kidney territory. An Ebay seller is selling three 1.5ml samples for a fiver including postage if anyone is interested.

Congratulations Shins. What a wonderful find. Have fun researching it, oh and wearing it too, of course. Smile

SoTD is Rosa Ribes - starts off rather like Ribena and dries down into a delicious fruity powdery thing. I might as well just send all my money directly to 4160 Tuesdays at this rate.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 20/02/2017 21:08

Cheers Polish! Getting that baby tomorrow.
I did not buy the Vamp ShadeScent today. It was my lookie likie. I've been sniffing it since it came out, it's Rubber. It makes my mouth water. I know, weird. Especially as I'm usually such a big fan of the big oriental spicy scents. Just need to hide it from dh for a bit.

Judydreamsofhorses · 20/02/2017 22:33

Been absent from this thread as I have had yet another stinking cold - my immune system is non-existent. SOTD was a sample of Heeley St Clements. I couldn't smell much of it, but I liked the idea of something fresh and zingy.

MrsCocoa · 21/02/2017 21:39

Beautiful sunny morning here so broke out the Seville a L'Aube. Went on to rain all afternoon but the bees wax and orange blossom kept on singing.

Judydreamsofhorses · 21/02/2017 21:57

Heeley Cardinal was SOTD. I also ordered the MMM Untitled samples, so looking forward to those arriving - thanks greenpolish for flagging that up.

GreenPolishToGo · 21/02/2017 23:17

SoTD just had to be MMM Untitled so I have been enveloped in a cloud of blissful greenness. Hope you both enjoy it as much as I do OhWhat and Judy.

That sounds so lovely, Mrs C. Is it anything like Dirty Honey?

MrsCocoa · 21/02/2017 23:57

It's...dirtier and dozier Smile. Beeswax and a floral dark runny honey with soporific vanilla/woods. Seville is brighter; an unusually long lasting soapy/waxy citrus and orange blossom.
