Continuing from the previous thread. It's always so lovely to see new posters come and talk perfume. Everyone is welcome. Come and tell us your SOTD ( scent of the day) or ask us anything perfumey. Someone will know the answer! Get stuck in and get sniffing. You'll find no snobbery here!

Because I have so much housework and marking to do today I am going to make a spreadsheet of all my perfumes Grin

Then I can start making myself proper comments etc.

Chanel 19 today. Sunny day here, first whiff of end of winter.

VintagePerfumista · 11/02/2017 15:02

Urgh.

Another Oud - first sample tried from the JHAG discovery set.

My right hand now smells like I wiped it in a sweaty armpit that wasn't mine.

I have tried various ouds and loved them, but this is a minger with a capital M.

shins · 11/02/2017 15:11

On me, ouds smell like donkeys' arses, I am not a fan!

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 11/02/2017 15:41

i've never tried oud, just never got round to it but i really should. The idea of it appeals to me at least so worth me trying i think. Jsut not sure where to start with ouds truth told, there are so many options and so many things to discover that it can be hard to know where to begin really

SOTD Si Lolita - Lolita Lempicka. I wish this lasted longer because i just love all the pepper in the opening and the immediate dry down. I love pepper in perfumes and this is a an almighty hit of it right from the off. Shame i got the EDT instead of the EDP as i feel its a real shame that the EDT is quite fleeting once the dry down starts. A real pity as it's a really nice uplifting scent

OCSockOrphanage · 11/02/2017 16:41

SoTD has been the last dregs of Chypre 21, then I wrung out the vial. I loved it in Autumn but it seems to need some sun, and there's precious little of that here today so it hasn't revealed itself. Another thank you to the kind person very nearby who introduced me to the Heeleys.

Very interested to hear than Another Oud is a minger for you, Vintage. It is one of my likes from JHaG, though Midnight Oud doesn't do it for me (too heavy) and I'm not keen on Oil Fiction either. Lady Vengeance is probably my best, but none has been a scrubber... yet.

VintagePerfumista · 11/02/2017 17:18
Grin

I have tried to buy the broken Givenchy III but ebay is blocking the sale (Givenchy, like Dior/Chanel clearly not liking their stuff on ebay as used. Told the guy to move the name but he isn't getting what I'm saying at the moment. Made an offer on what seems to be a fairly old bottle of Dune (ie it says Dior, not Christian Dior on the bottle) and a half empty Chanel 19.

Has anyone ever had any of the yellow Chanel 19? Which is apparently the older stuff? Judy?

MrsCocoa · 12/02/2017 00:19

Have some on the way to me Vintage as part of a set of miniatures - it looks straw-coloured.

Had a lovely time at the Guerlain counter today (again...). Their staff consistently seem a whole lot more knowledgeable than other Houses in High Street stores, and seem to relish the chance to show off their heritage. Bravo Guerlain! Think a (small) FB of L'Heure Bleu or Apres L'Ondee might need to go on my birthday list.

VintagePerfumista · 12/02/2017 11:09

Yes, I hover over a FB of L'HB.

I look forward to hearing what you think about the old 19. 19 is something I am never without- my best friend was wearing it when we were first thrown into university accommodation together in 1984 and my flatmate in Spain in 86 was wearing it, so it became the perfume I love through other people. There is still something slightly missing from the olfactory memory though- and I am unsure if they both wore the parfum, rather than the EdT or if it's successive reformulations.

I am in vintage Dioressence today. My, but I feel classy. Noticed my 10ml bottle is getting low, may need to source some more of that too!

A further reflection on the Cuir Cordoba from Friday- when I started wearing it last year, it immediately went onto my FB list and took pride of place as my favourite balsamy leather. Mr Tauer may have changed that now. I find it ever so slightly too sweet when compared to the 3 Tauer samples I have.

OCSockOrphanage · 12/02/2017 11:36

Chergui today, warm spiciness for a very chilly day.

Calminaqualm · 12/02/2017 13:27

SOTD is 4160 Tuesday's Shazam, a rich orange spicy incense, just gorgeous.

MrsCocoa · 12/02/2017 14:37

Calmina - good idea! Have joined you in a blaze of hippyish sunshine. (Although it's sooo cold here today the citrus opening was gone in a nano-second).

MrsSchadenfreude · 12/02/2017 15:46

Calmina - I love Shazam, and Sexiest Scent by 4160 Tuesdays, but my absolute favourite is Goodbye Piccadilly. And if you told me that I would like a perfume that had a good dose of violets in it, I'd have looked at you as if you were nuts. But it really is beautiful, in an expensive, old fashioned way.

Today I am wearing my own creation that I made at 4160 Tuesdays. In homage to their range which has a city and a year, I've called this Benidorm 1973. Grin

MrsCocoa · 12/02/2017 16:55

Hola! MrsS - that is genius .
Now I've stopped laughing will you describe what's in it?

Gatekeeper · 12/02/2017 17:11

SOTD is Sisleys Soir d'Orient and I am almost weeping wearing it

it smells so much like the original J'ai Ose by Guy Laroche which was on eof my signature scents back in the early 80's
Beautiful...woody and balsamy with he most wonderful spicey, smokey faded rose dry down. Dh followed me round the house sniffing appreciatively in my wake

One to save up for

VintagePerfumista · 12/02/2017 18:51

I was in Benidorm in 1973 so I definitely need to know!

MrsSchadenfreude · 12/02/2017 19:17

MrsCocoa and VP - I can't remember off the top of my head what was in it - I will fish out the piece of paper and let you know. I was aiming for the smell of the lemon scented suntan oil we used to use there - it was originally called "lemonoil", so a citrussy, suntan oil smell - oh damn it, I will have to have a look now!

VP - I was there in 1973 too!

MrsCocoa · 12/02/2017 20:52

MrsS Were you pleased with how it turned out? (Your perfume not the holiday...although that would be interesting too, especially if you might have crossed paths with VP).

MrsSchadenfreude · 12/02/2017 21:44

MrsC - yes. I get the lemon blast initially and then it settles to a gentle citrus/suntan oil/warm skin and sunshine.

MrsCocoa · 12/02/2017 22:01

Sounds lovely MrsS - how did you do the suntan oil notes? Am hoping to go back and do another workshop this year. (Note to self: stop looking at Ebay or it will be 2018).

MrsSchadenfreude · 12/02/2017 22:19

Lemon, benzoyl salicylate, hedione, ISO e super. The benzyl salicylate gave the suntan lotion smell, the hedione helped with the citrus edge and the ISO e super made it smell better.

Plumpysoft · 12/02/2017 22:30

I would love to do a workshop.....

VintagePerfumista · 13/02/2017 08:41

Grin I was in a hotel called the Hotel Pueblo and got an electric shock from the swimming pool filter

SoTD is Yvresse. It's lovely. A springlike almost-chypre. Apparently topnote is nectarine, but I get violet. Confused It is sweet, so I thought I wouldn't like it, but the chypre-esque bit kicking in almost immediately gives it that sharpness as well. Fragrantica describes it as a fruity-floral which would NOT have made me try it. They lie. It's smashing.

OCSockOrphanage · 13/02/2017 09:54

That suntan stuff...........Bergasol, IIRC, is totally responsible for my lifelong love affair with bergamot. It really used to accelerate tanning as well. Is it still on sale? (Who cares? No one sunbathes; these days, it's SPF50.)

SoTD is Mad Madame, inspired by Badders' rose tinted thread.

VintagePerfumista · 13/02/2017 10:28

Bergasol! My Mum always bought that and it's where I first met and loved bergamot. Blue gel?

IIRC it was taken off the market precisely because of the tan accelerator bit. Banned substances etc.

LesIncompetents · 13/02/2017 13:44

I'm so pale and freckly that I can feel the sunburn just reading that Grin

SOTD is Oriza's Jardins d'Armide. This has taken a while to grow on me, I normally love powdery scents but this has quite a strong carnation note that I struggle with. It's very vintage smelling, I'm imagining well to do Victorian ladies in Ostrich feather hats smelling like this.
