Continuing from the previous thread. It's always so lovely to see new posters come and talk perfume. Everyone is welcome. Come and tell us your SOTD ( scent of the day) or ask us anything perfumey. Someone will know the answer! Get stuck in and get sniffing. You'll find no snobbery here!

SOTD is SJP Covet, from the back of the cupboard. Why did I abandon this? Ok, when I was a hot flush monster it smelt like cat piss, but now it is back to what I fell in love with.

Contemplating getting some 4160 Tuesday samples (well 9ml bottles). Finding it hard to stick to 4. What's not too sweet?

GreenPolishToGo · 13/02/2017 18:19

Hello scented folk. I thought it was about time I thanked you all for this thread's attempts to bankrupt me.

I was lucky enough to get the 4160 Tuesdays Advent calendar of samples for Christmas. I'm now on my second run through the box - and building up an alarmingly long wish list. Out of 25 samples I only had one scrubber.

Pestilential Why not buy some samples instead of the 9ml bottles? Then you could get more than four. They are generously sized and they have spray tops instead of those irritating little lids which are a pain to get out and then fly across the room and do their best to disappear.

I like The Buddhawood Box, Shazam!, Ealing Green, Goodbye Piccadilly, Rome 1963 and Paradox of the non-sweet stuff. But I like the sweet stuff very much too.

SOTD is 4160 Tuesdays Up the Apples and Pears, which is supposed to smell like an old London pub. It's not like one that I've ever been in but it's definitely one for the wish list. Yummy. Smile

OCSockOrphanage · 13/02/2017 20:40

Bankruptcy is only ever a post away round here! I've got seven Heeley samples in my cart right now, and some I know I like lots. I just don't want to wear the same things often, so almost never buy FBs. Have become a total perfume tart. And happy with that... ATM, true total unconditional love remains a possibility, distant though.

Pestilentialone · 13/02/2017 22:11

Done, seven samples ordered. Can see myself doing another seven in a week or two.
OCSock why did you mention Heeleys?
And for suntan smell, I need Classic Brown SPF 2, now that was the way to go.

MrsCocoa · 13/02/2017 23:39

Green - have 9ml of Up the Apple & Pears - PM me if you fancy a swap?

SotD is All Good Things (last, I think, in the Lush death and renewal trilogy).. What better way for the soon to be divorced to mark the eve of Valentine's Day?

Tomorrow have the work presentation to end all work presentations - needs staying power, gravitas and perhaps a bit of quirk but defo not any hint of old lady. Might be reaching for the Sahara Noir (perhaps distractingly churchy?) or Who Knew?

VintagePerfumista · 14/02/2017 06:24

Surely Youth Dew for gravitas and slightly old lady?

I meanwhile was woken by the bloody cat at 4 and haven't been back to sleep since so will be reaching for something very zingy. Grin

VintagePerfumista · 14/02/2017 09:28

Hmm, first out of the sample box was Field Notes From Paris. Not a total minger. Just smells like it cost £2 and is confused about its identity. Within an hour it had gone anyway so am now rocking Lonestar Memories as its antithesis.

LesIncompetents · 14/02/2017 09:40

MrsCocoa how about Chanel Sycamore? to me it's classy and businesslike, no old ladies to my nose Grin

SOTD is Madonna Truth or Dare Naked, very warm and cosy amber, maybe some incense in there too. Glad I picked it up when I did as it's another one that's been discontinued.

Judydreamsofhorses · 14/02/2017 10:29

SOTD is YSL Black Opium. I bought this as a Christmas sale gift set and wasn't 100% sure about it, but I actually really like it now - it's so cosy and comforting. I suspect I won't wear it from April - October, but I'm fine with that.

OC which Heeleys do you have in your basket? I have a few full bottles of his, and a load of samples. I generally do not enjoy citrus-y scents much, but I am always drawn to St Clements.

Pestilentialone · 14/02/2017 10:37

SOTD is JPG Fragile, I am having fun with the back of the cupboard scents.

MrsCocoa · 14/02/2017 19:28

Who Knew it was! Worked fine and the meeting could've been a whole lot worse. (Youth Dew would've been high risk!).

OCSockOrphanage · 14/02/2017 20:04

Ohh good news then, MrsC. Have been holding my breath for you!

Judy, my basket contains Hippie Rose, Sel Marin, Iris de Nuit, Verveine d'Eugenie, Eau Sacree and another I can't be bothered to look up. I like the first two muchly, and would buy bottles, but not 100ml. 25-30ml would be lovely. I like rose, and citrus, especially bergamot, and soft ouds. My first round of Heeley samples included their big white floral Bubblegum Chic which went to the first person to stick up her hand. She loved it. I liked Chypre 21 in November, but not in Febbruary, so there's probably more of that in my basket as I've used the sample someone here sent me.

Flowers to all posters for 14 February.

Judydreamsofhorses · 14/02/2017 20:16

OC I have full bottles of Hippie Rose and Sel Marin so we must have some similar tastes. I find Eau Sacree a bit bitter on me, but I love Cardinal. I have a sample of the leathery one which I like very much, and I absolutely adore Almondine, which I didn't expect at all. I think I may have Iris de Nuit somewhere, might give that a whirl tomorrow.

And

OCSockOrphanage · 14/02/2017 20:30

Cardinal is also a favourite of mine Judy , and I think the leather with flowers is the one I missed off the list. I'm drawn to that because I love Mona Di Orio Lux, which is verbena and suede. I seriously consider buying an FB of it as it settles on my skin so comfortably. Light, warm, calm, luxurious but not loud.

OCSockOrphanage · 14/02/2017 20:34

Interested to read your thoughts on the Iris. I am very fond of some (Equistrius, Infusions d'Iris and Iris Ukiyoe spring to mind) which is why the Heeley version in the basket.

Judydreamsofhorses · 14/02/2017 21:28

I've looked out the Iris for tomorrow, OC. Based on a spray on the back of my hand I would say it's probably not quite powdery enough for my tastes. I'm a Chanel 19 girl at my core, I just flirt with everything else. I also sprayed a bit of a sample of Cocobella - or whatever it's called - and it smells so incredibly similar to 4160 Tuesdays What I Did On My Holidays which is one of my summer favourites.

GreenPolishToGo · 14/02/2017 22:28

Mrs Cocoa what a very kind offer. I'm close to biting your hand off but having not long fallen down the perfume rabbit hole there's probably not much in my stash to tempt you. I shall ponder and PM with any possibilities.

Youth Dew has lots of gravitas but I'd hazard its reception is dependent on the age of the audience. DH took one sniff of my vintage bottle and uttered the dreaded phrase "old lady", while the DCs, who haven't grown up surrounded by adult women drenched in the stuff, just said it was lovely. I shall still wear it anyway.Grin

As it was so nasty, wet and cold today SOTD had to be vintage Opium; perfect olfactory central heating.

I am not going to Google Heeleys, intrigued though I am, because I just stumbled into the latest 4160 Tuesdays crowd funding venture and have blown the perfume budget for the month.

VintagePerfumista · 15/02/2017 09:17

Gah! My ebay Dune seller has withdrawn the bottle. He probably thinks I am a spy from Dior and out to trick him.

SoTD Bandit. In kick-ass mood and it is perfect. Onto the FB list. This is also the (apparently) meek and mild modern reformulation so I can't imagine what the original was like!

Pestilentialone · 15/02/2017 11:54

SoTD Bvlgari, Pour Femme. I have to confess to not knowing where this 5ml bottle came from.
It is such a gloriously light jasmine blend, compared to the Jasmin Noir that I often wear, no dangling wrists out the bathroom window required. However, not really a match for today's weather. Might have to add a little layer of something more kick ass.

Pestilentialone · 15/02/2017 11:57

What I really need is some vintage Ivorie.

Awaiting the 4160 samples eagerly.

Judydreamsofhorses · 15/02/2017 13:12

SOTD is a sample of Heeley Iris de Nuit. It's very pleasant, and I keep catching a waft of it even though it's been on since 6.30am, but I'm definitely not blown away by it.

VintagePerfumista · 15/02/2017 14:15

Just had an offer accepted on ebay for some vintage Miss Dior.
Makes me feel better about the withdrawn Dune!

LesIncompetents · 15/02/2017 14:44

Wafting around the house in Fracas today. My sample is nearly at an end Sad I would like a FB but it's beyond my budget, might have to go decant hunting!

VintagePerfumista · 15/02/2017 15:14

We should waft together LI, you in your Fracas and me in my Bandit, we would terrify everyone! I have a teensy old bottle of Fracas that I picked up along with a Vent Vert (that was what I wanted, the Fracas was an added bonus)

OCSockOrphanage · 15/02/2017 15:49

PP Noir de Noir today. It is very nearly as good as TF, but seems less decadent to wear while scrubbing out the shower trap! Or maybe it should be the other way round.

I think I may get a sample of the Heeley Iris, Judy, just to try... but I shall postpone that pleasure until I return from visiting my sister.
