Thank you so much for all ur helpful advice.

I do like kimono style but it's like something's I wear to work. I'm not afraid of bright colour and have silver accessories and shoes.

I'm 5ft 4 is a maxi dress all wrong for me?
I love the idea of 50's fit. Was in Brighton at the weekend and saw an amazing dress. But it was 160. And we are busy saving for our own wedding and I think bf would freak out Grin

I like maxi dresses but feel they can look too casual.

I have no style whatsoever so couldn't advise but;

You're not fat at all... and
You've got beautiful shoulders/collarbone/chest area - utilise the strength of those as they are cracking!

nilbyname · 10/08/2016 08:27

If the dress sits just below your knees then yes it will work and look cool with all your beautiful body artwork/tattoos

gingerbreadmanm · 10/08/2016 09:19

I'd steer clear of amazon and ebay. i always think they're a faff to return to and the quality can be poor.

i also wouldn't go for a 50's style dress if it's not your usual style.

do you like lace? i've been wedding dress shopping lately so feel your pain.

lots of lovely lace dresses on asos [[

little mistress have lots of beautiful wedding type dresses on too.

That little mistress dress is ok for a teenager and their prom, but can't see it working for the op . It shows a ton of boob and leg! ShockConfused

gingerbreadmanm · 10/08/2016 11:00

the op looks like she has lovely slim legs. an above the knee dress would look nice. she also said she wanted something young and trendy.

i wouldnt let my teen daughter wear a dress with all her boobs out.

just an idea anyway. based on op's original outfit i thought it was a fair choice.

nilbyname · 10/08/2016 11:07

I won't wear that to a wedding, just not appropriate. But again just my opinion, I didn't mean to make you feel bad. Flowers

gingerbreadmanm · 10/08/2016 11:32

no problem. guess it depends on the wedding and the guests.

im at one friday and i envisage people will be wearing those kind of party dresses which made me finding one so hard especially with all the colour rules etc you see around.

if op is set on a 50s dress i know lindybop always gets a mention on here so might be worth a look they do have some nice, different styles.

gingerbreadmanm · 10/08/2016 11:34

this is the [[http://www.asos.com/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=6184308]] i settled on if any use.

been a nightmare finding shoes to go with it though. i have settled for silver i think but the beads are more pewter.

ginger that dress is stunning. I have asos prime so will have a look in my lunch hr.

Is the neck to high on this dress? Love the colour.

I'm in my early 30's if that helps Grin

nil I do love the colour and length but not sure on the style. I'm short so happy to wear shorter styles.

I'm not set on 50's i just want something that fits and looks good. My fall back is always a sweetheart neck line type dress from coast and I want to look different this time x

I think we have very different tastes in clothing, which is good!

I'm 39 and wearing this with these

And then to another wedding I'm wearing this with these shoes

I'm not keen on those shorter flippy dresses, I think they look really young and can look a bit trashy/clubby.

Have a great wedding whatever you decide to wear Grin

cheeseandmarmite15 · 10/08/2016 12:20

The dress makes you look bigger than what you are.

Horrible dress! Wrong colour, awful cut and style. Might suit a nine year old!

I think you have a 'Bombshell' figure and would suit this style

I love that second dress cheese but I'm very concerned about my tummy where I carry all my fat.

nil I love that dress and I would wear it.

I think I have lost my way a bit. Not sure what looks good anymore Confused

love your outfits nil.

the good thing about the asos dress is it kind of nips in the waist so gives a good shape. u cant tell really on the pics. they have a similar style in a really pale lilac which is nice. probably easier to find lilac shows that are nice than silver ones.

gingerbreadmanm · 10/08/2016 12:58

lilac one. theres lots of lovely dresses and jumpsuits on asos

i do like that one but probably not helpful whilst looking for a dress i read about avoiding bright colours so as not to become the focus point of group photos.

i do think that depends on type of wedding again tho. i shouldnt read too much theres so many 'rules' out there you cant possibly follow them all.

Racheyg · 10/08/2016 14:16

ginger that's good to know about the photos. I might buy the dress and try it on. I might feel differently. I might look hideous Grin

OP posts:
gingerbreadmanm · 10/08/2016 14:23

i dont think theyll be group photos at wedding were at yours might be the same. Register office and club. as i say i think it does all depend and yhe age range of people going etc.

have you looked at oasis dresses on there? there was a lovely botanical skater dress i ordered. really good quality material.
