This site does some beautiful 50s style dresses, I've had some lovely ones from there

love the first one. very pretty woman.

Racheyg · 11/08/2016 22:10

I have a short body so I struggle with jumpsuits, although I do have a nice culottes one but I wore that to her hen Sad

I also love that oasis one.

Once I finish my work I'm browsing the oasis site

I'm glad you're not keen, I don't like it either!
But I stand by what I said - it's definitely much nicer than the first one!
It totally swamps you and bulks you up somehow, which is ridiculous as you certainly aren't fat, you have a lovely shape.
Hmm... Back to the drawing board?!

nilbyname · 11/08/2016 23:14

No to the orange- it's vey orange and not the right fit at the back.

I'm ya definitely worth spending a bit more to get a great fit... Or taking something to a dress maker to alter for you?

Jumpsuits are da bomb!

Queenbean · 11/08/2016 23:21

Why does everyone always just recommend Lindy Bop? The dresses are hideous and look like fancy dress

CakeNinja · 11/08/2016 23:33

I'm not a fan of LB either Queen, all looks a bit 'comedy' vintage to me (admittedly I'm no fashion guru though, so what do I know?!). And who wears a petticoat in this day and age? What even IS a petticoat more to the point!

blowmybarnacles · 11/08/2016 23:38

What about one shoulder outfit, in a midnight blue or other jewel colour to show off your tattoo??

(runs off to google such an outfit.......)

blowmybarnacles · 11/08/2016 23:43

this type thing?

avamiah · 11/08/2016 23:44

I'm not keen on the colours and don't think they flatter your figure at all.
What about a maxi dress?
You can dress it up or dress it down.
Throw on a fancy shawl and a necklace .
Monsoon have some great dresses at the moment.

avamiah · 11/08/2016 23:48

Also have you heard of Boohoo.
Online.
I just love it, they have loads of dresses to choose from.
I recently bought a chiffon maxi dress for a christening and dressed it up with a fabulous pair of shoes .
The dress was only £20 and it's next day delivery.
Hope this helps.

BristolLFR · 12/08/2016 08:05

I recommended them because a) I have a similar shape as OP and they're very flattering on b) she said she liked the 1950s style...

You don't have to wear them with a petticoat, they look just as nice hanging down

Racheyg · 12/08/2016 12:42

The orange dress has gone back.

I panicked ordered a jumpsuit from boohoo as it was the last size 12. But I am going to keep looking.

I love Lindybop. If you have the sort of figure that looks nice in their style of dresses then you will probably look crap in a lot of the 'fashions' nowadays. Like I do. I look appalling in most fashionable things because body con etc or anything tight fitting just makes me look fat and frumpy. I am neither. But also that's because a lot of clothes nowadays are just so badly made from horrible fabrics.

So I make my own or go to places like Vivien of Holloway etc. Or sometimes you'll get something actually nice on the high street but I've found it to be very few and far between. I've a couple of nice Karen Millen dresses but they were upwards of £150 each. But they are my 'going to a wedding' outfits!!

Racheyg · 16/08/2016 08:25

Just an update. The jumpsuit has gone back. Boohoo isn't for me Sad the print was lovely but it was very body con fitting and highlighted my tummy.

I would have looked amazing if I were size 8 and 5ft 8 Grin

I did look on lindybop also but couldn't see a print I really liked. I have ordered another jumpsuit from m&s but it's black and white. Not very weddingy.

I will dig out some of my old dresses to see if they are suitable.

You can tell I haven't been out in a while Grin

I ordered this yesterday but it's not really wedding outfit is it?

OP posts:
OliviaBenson · 16/08/2016 15:06

Don't love either to be honest. I know you wanted to try something a bit different but there really is nothing wrong with the wedding type dresses from coast etc.

Did you have a look in oasis op? I linked a dress up the thread.

TheNaze73 · 16/08/2016 15:12

The silver dress isn't too clubby. I really like it. Think it would suit you

Racheyg · 16/08/2016 16:29

olivia I love that dress and I am so tempted but my friend didn't think it was weddingy maybe I will buy it and she will think differently?

The jumpsuit I ordered wasn't for the wedding really I just liked the style Grin

I will try and find my old coast dresses to see if still fit Grin
