Lovely, friendly perfume lovers thread

This thread continues from our perfumistas thread which is now full. It is a lovely and friendly thread in which we discuss all things perfume-y, and ask for tips and share opinions and SOTDs ( Scent of The Day). Do drop in- we're not cliquey and we all smell nice.

Baroness- you haven't mentioned Tauer. If you like Incense and roses, then you can't beat Andy Tauer's Incense Rose. He's based in Switzwerland so will be able to post to you. I recommend a sample set in a little tin.

Plus Andy is lovely to his customers.

SOTD is Mary Greenwell Plum. I actually had this at full price from HN a few years ago, possibly when it just came out, so snapped it up when it went in the bargain bin!

BaronessBomburst · 01/08/2016 15:01

Thank you!

cressetmama · 01/08/2016 19:52

Order placed. Thanks Frugal, favourite enabler! Just waiting, on tenterhooks, although it will be a few weeks before I start to enjoy the Equistrius, as it is for cooler weather. I would have sprayed it today as it has poured. SoTD has been .... air.

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 01/08/2016 22:24

SOTD was Olivia by Ted Baker. It's very pretty but it felt slightly annoying today. I had a horrible day at work and its prettiness just felt off. This is a scent for relaxing evening walks at twilight. NOT for fraught days teaching high teenagers!!

BaronessBomburst · 02/08/2016 12:35

SOTD is Chanel Chance.
It's not really me but I was given it. When it first goes on I smell like a duty free, but it settles to a slightly floral, slightly spicy, warmth.
And then it completely disappears. :(

ggirl · 02/08/2016 16:58

SOTD Clive Christian X ....my ebay sample arrived in a day !!

cressetmama · 02/08/2016 20:05

Fire... again. Cheap, nice, rain... English summer. Bonfires and sunshine needed....please send.

SlinkyVagabond · 02/08/2016 21:11

Gutted,as I've been in Prague and last night after the shops had closed I stumbled across the Guerlain store. As you can imagine it was very sparse and chic, featuring special editions of their Acqua Allegorias and some interesting things in black capped bottles. I would have sold my first born (well actually you can have him for a bag of jelly babies) for half an hour in there.

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 02/08/2016 22:05

SOTD CK One Summer 2006. It is definitely the best of the One Summer range I think....very summery and citrusy and fresh. My office and classroom feel very muggy right now so this was sooooo needed.

MissBattleaxe · 02/08/2016 22:06

SOTD First by Van Cleef and Arpels again as it was cold and wet today. I've been wearing a lot of Miller Harris le Pamplemousse in the heat.

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 02/08/2016 22:07

Oh....SOTE is of course, the beautiful L'aimant. My little girl has stolen the bottle to take to bed as she adores it so much too.

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 02/08/2016 22:09

MissB what is le Pamplemousse like?

MissBattleaxe · 02/08/2016 22:11

It's beautiful- grapefruit, galbanum and oakmoss. Unlike Pamplelune, it never goes sour. It's more uplifting and sharp. I'm addcited. It was on special offer when I made my annual visit to the Covent Garden branch. 50ml for under £25.

PS Coty L'Aimant is a great choice. I'm never without a bottle- and so cheap!

Corrigans, I don't want you to go unanswered but I have no idea at all!! Anyone else able to help????

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 02/08/2016 22:17

Wow it sounds yum! A summer scent? I love fresh, breezy, uplifting scents. Smile The price is fantastic.

My DH bought me Jasmine Glam for my birthday last week. It's very nice, but he said the woman in the perfume shop told him it was very fresh as he had explained to her that is exactly what I love (he needed advice in choosing one for me). But I do not pick up on the freshness at all. Quite disappointing. It reminds me of Splendor by Elizabeth Arden.

SlinkyVagabond · 03/08/2016 08:47

L'aimant-one of dms scents. She had a bottle of the cream version always.

MrsSchadenfreude · 03/08/2016 10:28

My mother also had the cream version of L'Aimant!

SOTD Choc by Pierre Cardin, which is one of my supermarket buys from France, where it is as cheap as chips. It was one of my first "proper" perfumes and reminds me of the summer when I was 18 and had cocked up my A levels, and the boy I went out with at the time.

cressetmama · 03/08/2016 12:44

SoTD is 4160 Tuesday's Buddhawood Box. Last time I wore it, I enjoyed it but it's not doing it for me today. I am getting a hefty waft of cat pee.

Corrigans, I looked quickly on Crystal Flacon and Perfumed Court for your Chanel decants, but no joy. LuckyScent? I've never used them but understand they are huge, although I can't see decants on the site. Sorry!

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 03/08/2016 13:44

cressetmama i was really wanting to try the Buddawood Box, has ti smelled like cat pee every time youve worn it? Hmm

SOTD is Ghost Deep Night, takes me right back to being 21 and pregnant, i avoided wearing it for the longest time as i associated it with bad memories from that time, what with Twin DD passing away and then having troubles with Twin Ds. I can wear it now though as i think more of the better things, the good from that time, it's very evocative for me

CorrigansDoorKnob · 03/08/2016 14:25

Thanks LastGirl and Cresset. I actually emailed surrender to chance to ask them. Apparently Chanel asked them to pull all their decants. Gutted - I love Chanel.

I suppose they want to keep the air of exclusivity. When you live in a very isolated city like me, decants are often the only way to access most decent perfumes. I feel like emailing Chanel to let them know my displeasure - won't do any good though will it?!

teta · 03/08/2016 14:38

Corrigan I think Chanel have done this before. But the decants/bottles always seem to become available again after time.Maybe it's just a question of waiting.Alternatively you can check on Fragantica if there any bottle splits or be the 'host' for one.I'm sure I've seen splits of Coromandel several times in the past.

MrsSchadenfreude · 03/08/2016 22:50

I had a tester this afternoon of the new Etat Libre d'Orange perfume, "Hermann a mes cotes me paraissait une ombre." (That trips easily off the tongue, no?!) It's interesting. To me it doesn't smell of what it's supposed to contain - I don't get any citrus at all, or rose. I get a sweaty muskiness, like knickers that have been on all day, and quite strong incense. DH said it smells like Granny's Knicker Drawer, and I think maybe he has a point. I do like it, but not enough to buy it.

pipppopin · 03/08/2016 23:28

Hello, any Anik Goutal Petite Cherie fans out there? I've been wearing it for 7 years. SmileSmileAll good things come to me when wearing that scent. A simple but important pleasure. Pear & vanilla. Warm, fresh linen. Newly shampooed hair. Adore.

ggirl · 04/08/2016 19:12

loving the granny knickers description ..but pippopin's sounds much more enticing..haven't tried either of those two

i hav just treated myself to some SJP Lovely for a snip £12.95 from the beauty store

Have always admired it on other people .

SOTD here is my new beloved Clive Christian X ..had a few admiring comments
