This thread continues from our perfumistas thread which is now full. It is a lovely and friendly thread in which we discuss all things perfume-y, and ask for tips and share opinions and SOTDs ( Scent of The Day). Do drop in- we're not cliquey and we all smell nice.

Interesting, Later because I've just come back on to take it all back!
Once the perfume settled, the soapiness disappeared, the scent warmed up, and I am wafting around in glorious clouds of Coco. I would buy a full (spray) bottle tomorrow if they were allowed to post them overseas.
Whose your German gem then?
And would anyone trust a Russian seller? I want some Coromandel. Feedback is good, from various countries in Europe, and he states quite clearly that he's selling products stamped "free sample, not for resale". He only sells Chanel. It's all 5ml perfumes, eye serums etc and other random items like stickers, brooches, and pendants. clearly originally meant as freebies too

SlinkyVagabond · 14/10/2016 17:00

Sounds like he could work in either a store or at an airport (and is a bit light fingered).
Today was a Samsara day. I was doing some one to one with some year sevens and I caught one of them having a sniff of my scarf.(hope he was sniffing not wiping his nose)

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 14/10/2016 18:18

I have been to my lesson with Rue Cambon on one arm and Shalimar on the other. I confess to always having swerved both Samsara and Shalimar because they were so ubiquitous in the 80s and the ads and name irritated me! I like it very much though, I can see me wrapping myself in it once autumn kicks in.

Will dig out German fella later. I am always a bit suspicious of anyone selling lots of stuff on ebay, (especially miniatures) but hadn't thought about them being genuine but half-inched!

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 14/10/2016 19:07

I just ordered Barbara Herman's book (yesterday's perfume blogger) That will do wonders for my purse!

ReadyToSignOff · 14/10/2016 21:04

My samples of Nahema, Fille de Berlin and Flowerbomb Rose Explosion arrived today Grin
My definite favourite was Flowerbomb Rose Explosion, which is very similar to my PP Jo Malone Velvet Rose & Oud, but not quite as sweet and a bit more complex imo (I think I might be purchasing a PP spray of this in the near future). I haven't smelled the original Flowerbomb yet, so it will be interesting to compare. Fille de Berlin is great too and seems to improve as it develops - lovely peppery rose. Now Nahema... I think I'm going to have to keep working on this one Confused because at the moment all I can smell is Bronley Rose soap! They are all sprayed on card at the moment though, as I popped out of work at lunchtime and sprayed doused myself with SJP's Lovely. I wasn't that impressed really and it won't scrub off! I might try a squirt of Nahema before bedtime Smile

SlinkyVagabond · 15/10/2016 09:36

I received a free sample of the new Chanel No 5 L'eau this morning. I'd already decided on samsara again, but gave it a squirt on the card, where it has vanished! What I can smell is very light and a bit sweet, nice powdery ness, but I think this may be one for dd. (Who loves Miss Dior Mademoiselle)

teta · 15/10/2016 12:11

I've been working my way through the stunning Mona di orio perfumes.I'm in love with Rose etoile - a peach Bellini annointed with rosewater, scattered with rose petals and a sprig of mint with a slice of lime. The Vanilla and musk are wonderful and really nuanced and quite subtle. For some reason I was expecting Powerhouse Perfumes.

AmberGreyson · 15/10/2016 12:51

i love calvin klein eternity now

SlinkyVagabond · 15/10/2016 15:15

It's my day for freebies! Went to local posh market town and a mooch round their department store, revisited old favounites just to see how they had changed. Everything now reeks of youth dew(including Dh's car) I have find memories of an older friend who wore it and I always had a little spritzdoused myself liberally when I visited. Hope dh doesn't buy it me as I'm developing a whopper of a headache. But I picked up two sample bottles of a new scent called Zadig & Voltaire, men's and women's. Not tried yet but it includes cinnamon, lemon and coumarin. Woman in shop says it's not a girly scent at all.

SlinkyVagabond · 15/10/2016 18:41

She lied! It's got more than a touch of Angel about it. Scrub! Hope the men's version is nicer.

Judydreamsofhorses · 15/10/2016 19:50

SOTD is Clinique Wrappings - love it at this time of year.

Calminaqualm · 15/10/2016 21:43

I enjoy Madonna's Truth or Dare so much (it's a heady, creamy tuberose jasmine) that I thought I would investigate her Truth or Dare Naked. On Fragrantica it has very mixed reviews, with some people not being able to smell many of the notes at all. But I saw it on Ebay for just over £8 including postage, so I thought it worth a whirl. Oh my goodness, it's just gorgeous, if nothing like the original Truth or Dare. For me, I get chocolate, caramel, vanilla, and mint toffee with just a bit of white floral. It's a very comforting winter perfume which doesn't match its Naked tag. Also it lasts for 3-4 hours!

OCSockOrphanage · 16/10/2016 19:46

Calm, that wouldn't float my boat at all!

Chocolate, vanilla, caramel would discourage me totally.. Delighted perfume people are so opinionated.

SoTD has been Heeley Sel Main.

Judydreamsofhorses · 16/10/2016 20:37

SOTD here is a sample of Heeley Almondine or similar, can't be bothered to go and check the exact name. I really like it, but it's faded very quickly.

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 17/10/2016 06:22

Is the Madonna one a bit Angel-y?

SotD yesterday was Cuir Cordoba. God, I love it more every time I squeeze a bit out of the bottle. And 2 quick sprays at 9am could (and, have just checked can) still be smelled now.

Will need something powerhousey today as have class teachers' meetings for 4 hours this afternoon with headteacher who favours bodycon dresses and 8 inch stilettoes. Need to inject a bit of Class with a capital C into proceedings I think. Grin

I ordered 13 Perfume Parlour 3ml bottles on Saturday. Will report back obviously!

Latest on my Vent Vert vintages research tells me the second formulation is OK, the third formulation (polka dots design) might as well have a different name, and therefore I need to stockpile the remaining bottles I can find of the original. The one I got for 12 euro from ebay.fr is going for £65 on ebay uk (wtf?) and tbh, Perfumed Court, who wouldn't ship to me anyway, wants $111 for 5ml. Shock I shall just have to hope I find more treasures like the ebay.fr one!

ReadyToSignOff · 17/10/2016 11:13

SOTD is Nahema - still trying to warm to this one! I must be a philistine though, as it has taken me 25 years to work my way through 1/3 of a bottle of Chanel No. 5 (considering putting the remaining bottle on eBay to fund current perfume investigations). I think I know what my issue is... I don't particularly like things to be abstract (literature, art, patterns, etc...) and I read an article about Chanel No. 5 describing it as an 'abstract scent' meaning that there isn't one identifiable scent that dominates. I like perfume to be recognisable and have distinct notes; to smell of roses, spices, amber, or citrus, for example. To me, Nahema and CN5 just smell of, well... perfume! Is there a cure for this? Am I talking total rubbish?! Still loving the Flowerbomb Rose Explosion though Grin please don't make me leave the thread!

MissBattleaxe · 17/10/2016 11:25

ReadytoSignOff- No, you'll never be kicked off this thread. No snobbery here! Everyone is very welcome.

Actually I do know what you mean about Chanel no 5. I find it hard to categorize. It's actually an aldehyde, but to my nose, it doesn't smell instantly recognizable as one. I'm not really a fan of it, and I think a lot of woman end up with bottles of it because its the one most gift buying men know the name of.

I think there are many better perfumes out there. There! I've said it!

OP posts:
PinkissimoAndPearls · 17/10/2016 12:23

I much prefer the Eau Premiere version of No. 5, than the original. I admit I do like smelling like the inside of an old ladies handbag though Grin (Preferably a rich old woman with a good leather bag. I have officially turned into my Grandmother). In this category, I would tentatively include L'Aimant and L'Anais Anais (original one only) - all of these are scents I wear to bed Blush

I am just posting to advise the Perfume Parlour version of Kenzo Amour is (to my untrained nose) pretty much spot on and certainly has a better longevity than the real one. I have a DD who loves both perfume and Lush, so have ordered her a couple of the Lush perfume dupes and will report back in the public interest.

I haven't tried the Mandorlo di Sicilia PP dupe I was recommended yet but it's next on my list now that I have spent all my money on DD

BaronessBomburst · 17/10/2016 12:28

ReadyToSignOff Funny but you have virtually said was I was thinking to myself on Sunday. I think that's why I like the Tauer perfumes so much. I can smell the layers and pick things out. I was musing because the SOTD was PP Black Orcheeds (in other words Tom Ford Black Orchid) and I enjoyed it.
Can you 'enjoy' a fragrance? It was interesting as much as smelling nice.
And I now want to try the original!

SOTD is Incense Rose, which DH says makes me smell like a church. I just ignore him. In fact, I'm going to order some more samples. So farI'm looking at Maroc Pour Elle and Incense Extreme.
Any other suggestions?

ReadyToSignOff · 17/10/2016 12:49

Thank you for your kindness and understanding ladies Smile it's an exciting process trying new perfumes and finding out which ones you enjoy and others not so much. One perfume or note seems to often lead on to another! I would love to try some of the Tauer perfumes, but think they may be tricky to track down - any tips please?

OCSockOrphanage · 17/10/2016 12:58

I'm not keen on No 5, except as a soap. DH bought some for me once, and I liked it but have never worn the scent.

Sample drawer lucky dip has brought up a Nose spray of Iperborea (Lorenzo Viloresi) that came in a swap package. I've only just spritzed it on; it's powerful upfront, and the description says it aims for petals in snow. It is indeed very floral and green, and according to one review I've just read, it's a sillage monster with tenacity. It's right out of my comfort zone.

teta · 17/10/2016 13:00

Chanel no 5 - all I smell is pee and Aldehydes.I know this is sacreligeous !
The newest no 5 I really like until I get the pee notes again.Nahema, however I can smell all the different flowers and notes in it right to the ending amber note.Thats why I love it.

Wearing il Profvmo Fleur de Bambu today.Green tea and bambu with a Rice note all together adds up to a creamy clean green .

Badders123 · 17/10/2016 13:04

Agree re Cno5 - just smells of nothing to me. Ditto anais anais. I got a definate smell of leeks from that one! 😖
Am still loving knowing but it doesn't seem to last very long :(

Cockblocktopus · 17/10/2016 14:15

I love no 5 :) I feel all fur coat, no knickers in it. Grin

SOTD was L'occitain Roses et Reines

MinnieF1 · 17/10/2016 14:36

Oooh please can I join? I love love LOVE perfumes. My two favourites at the moment are Chanel coco mademoiselle and also Penhaligon's Iris Prima.
TK Maxi did lots of Penhaligon's and L'Artisan Parfumeur this time last year. Hopefully they will again this year.
