Lovely, friendly perfume lovers thread

MissBattleaxe · 13/07/2016 22:26

This thread continues from our perfumistas thread which is now full. It is a lovely and friendly thread in which we discuss all things perfume-y, and ask for tips and share opinions and SOTDs ( Scent of The Day). Do drop in- we're not cliquey and we all smell nice.

Ooh, will go and have a read. I spotted a few of us on the latest perfumes of yesteryear thread, though feel dreadfully old when people say their yesterday's perfume is one from 1994!

Spuddy came home at 6.30. Dirty stop out.

SuckingEggs · 12/10/2016 15:00

Anyone got Fracas? I love Songes (Annick Goutal) but hate musk, as it gives me a headache. I want something amazing for Christmas and would love a white floral that feels special. Any thoughts, fragranced ones?

Whatthefoxgoingon · 12/10/2016 15:09

I love Fracas, but it is really full on. You have to love your white flowers for this one, but I think it's an underused classic.

I'm wearing Visa today. Brrrr.

PinkissimoAndPearls · 12/10/2016 15:15

Second thank you, the reviews look great on PP - I would love to smell like marzipan Smile I have ordered the dupe of Amour but will definitely try your recommendation next!

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 12/10/2016 15:32

OC the bubblegum Chic arrived and it is gorgeous, thank you. I love it but wow is it a 'big' scent. i only used one tiny squirt and i'm wafting around in a big fragrant cloud. exactly what i want from my tuberose! it is HUGE and smells so classy, creamy, rish, musky. this is exactly what i want from white flowers and this is definitely going on my wishlist!

OCSockOrphanage · 12/10/2016 16:57

OneNightTimeMenace, you are welcome and very pleased to know that it hits your sweet spot; it was not one for me! It is a heavy hitter, and I like my perfume rather less full on, and not so floral. Hope Santa gets the e-mail and sticks an FB under the tree for you.

SoTD here is Vengeance Extreme, but it's calmed down and worn off since this morning, so I may fancy a change for this evening. Hmmm, ponders options....

OCSockOrphanage · 12/10/2016 17:19

That's an excellent read, thank you, Teta.

lasttimeround · 12/10/2016 17:39

Fracas knocked me out last time I tested it. Amazing first about 10 mins then frantic to remove it. It's huge. I'm tempted to try again but need to be near wipes and have tiny tiny dab. It was just whoosh!

I'm wearing samsara today - it's so glorious. I often catch people taking second sniffs in samsara. the good kind of second sniff.

FannyWincham · 12/10/2016 17:57

It's been mentioned already upthread, but Madonna Truth or Dare really is worth a look if you want tuberose and white flowers. It is nowhere near as complex as Fracas but it's also a bit quieter as a result.

SlinkyVagabond · 12/10/2016 18:26

I've had no sotd for a bit as I'm full of that stinking cold, so it would be a waste.
Anyone noticed that Perfume Parlour has lots of sold out scents? I'd decided to have a splurge and all the ones I wanted were gone.

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 12/10/2016 18:52

In honour of you lot I just put Fracas on after my shower. Blimey. It's an odd one. There's a hint of the Edens about it, sort of sherbetty at times, then a bit medicinal. And yes, v sweet. Not unpleasant, but definitely not me. It won't be going onto my lists!

Speaking of lists (I promise I will do a ginormous list of our desert island ones before the weekend) this is my wishlist:

Yvresse/Champagne
Guet-Apens
Histoire des Parfums 1740
L'air du desert marocain (your fault, you lot!)
Liz Earle n 1. (already love it, it's a FB wish)
Emeraude
Aromatics Elixir (same as Liz)
Azuree
Lush Breath of God
Calandre
Venise
Vol de Nuit
Missoni Missoni
Prescriptives Calyx
Nahema (you lot again!)
Parfums de Nicolai New York
Ormond Jayne Woman (yes, you lot!)
Private Collection
Pre 2003 Rive Gauche
Scent
Bal A Versailles
Angelique sous la pluie

So not a long list at all, at all Grin

SuckingEggs · 12/10/2016 22:15

Thanks so much for the Fracas verdicts! Sounds a bit big for me so I'll give Madge's perfume a try.

I tried some Elie Saab Le Parfum and the intense version. Not good on me 😒

I've also got some Reve Opulent - lovely when I tested it but just not good after 30m. Need to sell it.

Cockblocktopus · 13/10/2016 03:58

SOTD is Hermes sur la nil again just to check that I only didn't like it because it pales becide Hermes med and to make sure I don't want it before passing to mum.

I don't like it at all but I'm not sure why. The wrong kind of sweet perhaps.

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 13/10/2016 08:09

Vent Vert today, following on from the Fracas fracas! (same nose iirc) Gosh but it's good. Does anyone have the newest version? How does it compare, I'd really like a FB and it's not too expensive, but I don't want some dumbed down version!

The opening raw straw scent is amazing- I've never smelled anything with an opener like that. Raw green. Lovely!

teta · 13/10/2016 08:50

Penhaligons Violetta today.Violet reminds me of my Granny ,especially when its got quite a bit of Rose Geranium in.Its such a shame this perfume has been discontinued .
Fracas is too OTT for me but I love Carnal Flower with the touch of freshness from the Eucalyptus.Miller Harris Noix de Tuberose is one of the best and I have high hopes for the Mona Di Orio Tuberose perfume I'm waiting to sample.

MissBattleaxe · 13/10/2016 10:51

Vent Vert sounds fabulous! I love a good green.

SOTD Tauerville Vanilla Flash. I don;t normally like vanilla but this is rose, tobacco and not too sweet vanilla.

AnotherPinkiePieStory · 13/10/2016 14:34

thenlater your list looks fab. So many I've never heard of so will need to try
Sotd: PPs jo Malone woody sage. Not sure. Lovely start but can't put my finger on what it becomes. Def want to try the real deal now though.

OCSockOrphanage · 13/10/2016 20:35

SoTD safe, tasteful, Infusion d'Iris. Love the cedar note at this time of year/

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 13/10/2016 22:01

Manged to pick up Coty L'Amaint Fluer de Rose today for dirt dirt cheap. it's very pretty, very much still classic L'amaint but with added rose and slightly fruity notes,. very pretty but ever so long lasting. I wouldn't pay a lot for this but for under a fiver, its worth my time.

Classic L'amaint is the scent of my dear departed mum, she wore it all the time, she's the first and last thing i think of when i smell it

Badders123 · 14/10/2016 07:25

Love laimant Smile

Whatthefoxgoingon · 14/10/2016 09:18

I love carnal flower, and fracas but less so. Any recommendations along those lines??

BaronessBomburst · 14/10/2016 09:58

My Perfume Parlour order arrived!
SOTD is Koko Shanelle. How anyone can say this is indistinguishable from the original, I don't know. It smells similar, very nice even, and is a massive bargain price wise, but it is not the same. It's got a soapiness to it and not as much depth. Think Coco meets Matey bubble bath.
I'm not keen on the roll-on either. It's very small and stiff but I did only order the smallest sample size.
I'll let you know how it lasts......

OCSockOrphanage · 14/10/2016 10:20

Heeley Agarwoud today. It's resolutely bitter, resinous and woody and so far no oudh has emerged at all, so I stuck some Lonestar Memories on top, just for good measure. In about half an hour, it will have warmed up and softened, and at that point it will be lovely. I know this because I tried it accidentally a few days ago!

Loving the Indian summer we're having, but the first frost came this morning. Three cheers for the Scandinavian super-high that's keeping clear skies anchored over us.

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 14/10/2016 13:30

I was in Vent Vert again this morning, but the lovely ebay seller who mistakenly sent me the minger that is Chanel 22 has now sent me free of charge the sublime Rue Cambon and a wee phial of Shalimar parfum to compensate. Fabulous customer service. He/She is in Germany if any of you are after samples of posho stuff!

Baroness- My only real PP fail was Chanel 19, I think because the ingredients are so exhorbitantly expensive for some perfumes that they are difficult to reproduce.

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 14/10/2016 13:58

Allbeauty are offering 100ml for the price of 50ml on a shedload of perfumes btw.
