This thread continues from our perfumistas thread which is now full. It is a lovely and friendly thread in which we discuss all things perfume-y, and ask for tips and share opinions and SOTDs ( Scent of The Day). Do drop in- we're not cliquey and we all smell nice.

Hello fragrant folk

MissB I didn't go for the job interview...I discovered in my prep that it was Belfast only but I live in the very rural, in the sticks side of NI, miles from the big smoke, so wrote a very nice email explaining that I couldn't attend. I have decided to stick with my job for the foreseeable future.

Anyway......SOTD was Victoria Beckham. Don't laugh, but I absolutely adore this!!!

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 07/10/2016 22:39

Sotd well actually just evening for sneaky date night after a week thigh high in mud mulching the orange trees was Baccarat rouge. I bloody love it. DH couldn't figure it out (was convicted it was cinnamon) but def a thumbs up.

Cockblocktopus · 08/10/2016 14:06

Agh convinced not convicted.

Badders123 · 08/10/2016 15:09

I've been lurking like crazy on this thread as I don't consider myself a perfumista, just an interested amateur! However, I wanted to say thank you to the people who mentioned the Perfume Parlour website, as I had a mooch over there and received my order yesterday Smile. I am looking for a new Rose perfume as my previous favourite, National Trust Rose (a full on in your face, lasts for ages Turkish Delight blast) was discontinued/mutated in the last year or so. I ordered sprays of every Jo Malone smell-a-like with 'rose' in the title and they are all quite nice, but the winner is Velvet Rose & Oud, with Tudor Rose & Amber following behind. My two other favourites are the Lush Karma and JM Earl Grey & Cucumber copies. The only fail (in terms of my preference, not scent accuracy) was JM Orange Blossom, which surprised me, as Eden is one of my all time favourites and I thought it would be similar, however I've just checked Fragrantica and it doesn't seem to be in it at all! Also, I am considering buying the chocolate fragrance from the PP and adding a little squirt to Velvet Rose & Oud for the full Fry's Turkish Delight experience - would that be wrong?! Wink

Badders123 · 09/10/2016 12:26

Oooh
Lush used to do a mAssage bRands year Go cAlled blAck magic -it was pure Turkishdelight
Amazing
I mourned its discontinuation!
I've had Paul smith rose before....nice summer perfume

ReadyToSignOff · 09/10/2016 12:40

Thanks Badders I like the sound of Black Magic! I've tried Lush Rose Jam, but for some reason I thought it smelled of honey and it gave me a headache, so I gave it to my daughter, who was very happy about that. Paul Smith Rose is nice, but far too subtle for me I'm afraid (as is Stella). I want to be smacked around the head with a bouquet of roses!

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 09/10/2016 12:57

L'Occitane rose perfume is very rosey...can't recall its full name. My favourite rose is still original Paris.

I will do a list of all the top 10s over the next few days and then we can play Last Scent Standing, and of course the winner must be worn when we go to Scentstock in our yurts!

Sotd Diorella. I am loving smelling like my mother's friends during the 70s!

Badders123 · 09/10/2016 13:09

I didn't like rise jam either....far too sweet.
I urge you to try nahema by guerlain!!!

Badders123 · 09/10/2016 13:10

Rose jam even! My typing is not good today!

ReadyToSignOff · 09/10/2016 13:14

L'Occitane Roses 4 Reines is gorgeous! Last year I was in the Leeds shop and they gave me a very rationed squirt of a 'behind the counter' rosey perfume which I fell in love with (can't remember the name). Unfortunately it turned out to be about £250 and DH refused to buy it as my Christmas present Sad

Cockblocktopus · 09/10/2016 14:04

The L'occitane roses & reines shower gel is also lovely. Most scented shower gels cause me various unpleasant reactions but this one doesn't.

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 09/10/2016 14:26

I've yet to smell any L'Occitane perfume I don't like..and the Divine face cream is AMAZING!

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 09/10/2016 14:41

I really liked the Valentino Rock N Rose but it was discontinued like so many of the things i love. I do like Paul Smith Rose as well.

My all time favourite and first grown up perfume is D&G Feminine. again, discontinued. I can still recall the smell of it now if i want to, mandarin in the top which gave it some freshness and then oodles of sandalwood and vanilla, thick jasmine, delicate sweeping lily and lots of musk. I love it so much and still do, i would be beyond delighted if it ever got brought back

ReadyToSignOff · 09/10/2016 14:59

Thanks everyone - more to try Smile OneNight you may be interested in trying the Perfume Parlour version of Feminine as it gets good reviews on the website...

teta · 09/10/2016 15:08

Ooh,Rose perfumes are my absolute favourites .
La fille de Berlin - full on red rose with pepper for freshness.
Nahema -pdt vintage is best,Rich floral bouquet,
Paris - vintage EDP.Rose, violet and sandalwood.
Piguet Rose Perfection - perfect pink rose with musky ambroxan notes.
Drole d'Rose - powdery delicate pink rose.
None of the designer perfume smell rosy enough for me sadly so its my unending mission to find the most beautiful Rose scents in existence.

BaronessBomburst · 09/10/2016 16:53

SOTD is ........ nothing! Shock
Just dropped DM and DSF at Eindhoven airport and deliberately went "naked" hoping for a good mooch around the shops and beauty counters. Only there aren't any! So disappointed. Düsseldorf airport has fab shopping.
To continue the rose theme, DM loved Phi, Une Rose de Kandahar and has taken it with her. She tried all the Tauers from the sample set and was hooked. We're now looking at ordering some more (different) testers to share. only I get them first

AnotherPinkiePieStory · 10/10/2016 11:54

Hi ready I am not really a rose fan although I wonder if I've just experienced cheap ones as I love actual roses. I also don't like pink pepper and I think that so many seem to have both! But jo Malone rose with Oud is amazing. So dark and special smelling. Like I heard a beauty blogger describe elnette as the smell of a good time coming, I feel like that about velvet rose and Oud. And we all need that!
And thank you so much to who recommended perfume parlour. Loved the 5 jo Malone copies I tried. Except orange blossom: so true ready. Cardamom and mimosa is lovely but wish I got spray so could be more liberal. Can't really smell 5 hours later. So that's my sotd
Feel your pain baronness. What is the point of an airport without smells?
Maybe also bought l'artisan fig extreme in tkmaxx. Blind buy but awesome and whoever liked body shop fig but complained it didn't last, this is the stuff! Bit summery but perfect for sunny days of autumn. Now I'm after an amber.....

Cockblocktopus · 10/10/2016 13:47

Ohhhhh I'm a body shop fig who complains it doesn't last!

I'm properly taking down names of rose perfumes. I'm a fan.

No SOTD but I must have sprayed my watch as could still smell Baccarat Rouge 540 all day.

judgepickles · 10/10/2016 15:52

I love rose perfumes, best I've ever found is also the most expensive, though I bought a bottle 2 years ago & its still going strong. It's Frederic Malle, Portrait of a Lady. It smells like a red rose on a hot day, rich & spicy and delicious. It makes up for the discontinuation of Issey Miyakes Le Feu which was my previous fave & I still long for.

AnotherPinkiePieStory · 10/10/2016 21:28

cockblock go get it. Lasts twice as long and lovely but strong!
judge sounds delicious. I think you guys might help me rethink roses!

ReadyToSignOff · 10/10/2016 23:12

I'm really starting to get obsessed into this now Grin
Thanks for the list teta I'm intrigued by FIlle de Berlin and may have to invest in a tiny decant at some point. It looks so pink and juicy! I'm glad you had the same experience as me with Velvet Rose & Oud (and Orange Blossom Sad PinkiePie as it makes me think my judgement is not too bad (although I'm sure we all have different tastes...). I had a similar experience to you Baroness at Gatwick (which is actually filled to the brim with perfume) as I was dragged past all the shops at full speed by DH. Maybe the 45 minutes I spent at the Jo Malone concession last year put him off?!

ReadyToSignOff · 10/10/2016 23:24
