MissBattleaxe · 13/07/2016 22:26

This thread continues from our perfumistas thread which is now full. It is a lovely and friendly thread in which we discuss all things perfume-y, and ask for tips and share opinions and SOTDs ( Scent of The Day). Do drop in- we're not cliquey and we all smell nice.

Oops forgot
Sotd: lady vengeance. I'm back at work after being off with a sick child for 5 weeks so think it was a bit overpowering but not sure what smell would suit my current odd feeling

OCSockOrphanage · 29/09/2016 12:02

SoTD is Afternoon of a Faun (ELdO) which is perfect today; it is so complex, so many ingredients but today I'm getting the notes I like best.

Thinking of you poorly ones, with poorly DC, and hoping you are feeling better, up and about soon.

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 29/09/2016 12:32

In Givenchy III today. I wanted to be in Liz Earle n1 (my favourite) but my sample phial just would not give up that last mm or so in the bottom, I will need to take it apart.

My Exclusifs phial of 31 Rue Cambon arrived....except it's a 22. Have mailed the seller, but I expect he will want that returning so I shall just keep the 22 I guess.

The postman said to me "Am I going to be coming here everyday then?" I told him, er, Blush more or less and the old postie, plus the SDA guy got used to me!

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 29/09/2016 12:49

Oh, take it back. Lovely ebay seller will send me 31 free of charge. (I will paypal him actually because he is so accommodating about it)

LittleMysMoominMamma · 29/09/2016 17:28

Hello Smile

My first post on this thread encouraged by the lovely, enabling ThenLater... and coincidence of coincidences, I came here to swoon about my lovely new SOTD... 31 Rue Cambon! Grin

AnotherPinkiePieStory · 29/09/2016 18:38

Welcome little. I'm adding it to my sample list! You people are very expensive!

LittleMysMoominMamma · 29/09/2016 19:50

Thank you Pinkie! Tell me about it, I'm spending a fortune, but smelling glorious Grin

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 30/09/2016 12:03

Welcome Little! Smile

Oh deary me. Chanel 22. Is awful on me. Just awful. I wanted to be at myself with Vim. Sad I read Bois de Jasmine, and Luca, and everyone and thought "the smell of white pearls?" The smell of white PEARLS?"

Dd said "Oh my goodness, what have you got on?"

Smelled like someone had had a crafty fag behind the altar while spraying Raid around.

I am recovering today in Vent Vert.

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 30/09/2016 12:21

Ive never tried Chanel 22, I havent tried a lot fo the Chanels to be truthful, they've always felt somehow just too grown up for me. I have Chance eau tendre, Coco and Coco Mademoiselle but the rest seem beyond me even though I am actualyl a fully stamped and approved grown up in real terms Grin

OCSockOrphanage · 30/09/2016 12:44

Hello Little Smile!

Grin Grin at ThenLater's reaction to Chanel 22.

I am fainting with love for the Healey samples a very kind perfumista swapped me. Yesterday, I couldn't wait so sampled a single spritz of Sel Marin and had to sniff myself every quarter hour for the rest of the day. It sat nicely next to the Afternoon of a Faun which I wore first thing.

Today, I am trying the Chypre 21. I didn't think there was any scent so effortlessly wonderful, that works on my skin so comfortably and remains quiet but discernible even in a sensible breeze out walking. Flowers

Both are serious contenders for ginormous decants, even bottles. Off to check the website!

lasttimeround · 30/09/2016 13:08

I finally tried the new lynxs in supermarket. Quite nice really for the first bit but them started to smell a bit chemical after about an hour. I most liked the tobacco and amber but that's probably because I don't own more expensive versions of the same smell. With the oud wood and iced musk ones after it settles it gets pretty clear to my nose that it's a reproduction of those types of notes. But I wasn't repulsed by a long way. Might even get te the tobacco one

SOTD timbuktu layered with herba fresca.

PS - shorter check your inbox cos almost everything has arrived for me to try making a decant Smile

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 30/09/2016 13:14

The only other Chanel that the 22 reminded me of is the original Chance tbh. The patchouli of Chance is a bit similar to the incense of 22.

Having just taken possession of a hairdryer from Amazon for dd's birthday on Sunday, I have realised that the parcel I hid in the wardrobe thinking it was her hairdryer is actually my allbeauty cheapy 70s and 80s FBs!

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 30/09/2016 14:41

Sooo, Tweed, Panache and Blue Grass are blooming lovely. Chanel and Guerlain etc are missing a trick, they should have bought Tweed before Taylors got their hands on it, sexed it up, called it something like "A Cyprus lined Avenue in the Spring Rain" (or something else long and modernist sounding Grin) put it in a Lutens stylee bottle, called it niche and started flogging it for 95 squid a bottle.

Chique is the only one I find a bit in-your-face.

Not bad though, for 4 blind buy FBs delivered for £22. Grin

AnotherPinkiePieStory · 30/09/2016 18:00

Argh thenlater I'm off to search for them too! I'm a sucker for cheap thrills!
Plus I have £23 in boots points and need a pick up. What do you ladies recommend? I'd love a selection of miniatures but they don't seem to do them much outside of airports do they?

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 30/09/2016 18:56

allbeauty.com is your friend for the cheapies!

Yardley Jade is a marvel for a cheap fresh green scent. IMO it beats Chanel Cristalle hands down, because it's sharper. They have that in Boots for sure.

teta · 30/09/2016 20:38

I've just ordered from Arran Aromatics - Driftwood,After the Rain and a rose, lily and Rosewood one for £5.00.I bought loads of Neroli and Frangipani shower and hand wash from Tk Maxx.Plus Several Neom candles and l'Artisan Parfumeur diffusers for Christmas presents.I'm all perfumed out but the house smells gorgeous. It definitely beats the smell of Wet Spaniel and 4 kids.

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 30/09/2016 22:42

I have a job interview on Tuesday. I work full time but because I have four very young children, I want a part time and permanent job. This is it guys!!!!! The job is teaching SEN students....what perfume is ideal????

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 30/09/2016 22:45

I was thinking Caleche, Paris, Organza or J'Adore??

MissBattleaxe · 30/09/2016 22:55

Last Girl - L'air du Temps

OP posts:
LastGirlOnTheLeft · 30/09/2016 22:59

MissB....I am so glad you said that! As soon as I posted I thought about the wonderful, untouchable L'Air du Temps!!! OK that's the one!!!

teta · 01/10/2016 00:09

No,something really light!
My Ds1 is dyslexic and real!y sensitive to smell.last week he had to do a test to see if he could get the extra 25% time for a specific exam. The Lady testing him stank of onions and sweat. He said it was so bad he couldn't concentrate on the test .

SlinkyVagabond · 01/10/2016 08:08

My local Boyes store always has tweed et al really cheap, may have to invest. I was hunting through my dhs aftershaves last night (he rarely wears them anymore) and came across a little bottle of givenchy Insense, had a tiny splash, my it's lovely! He has Chanel for gentleman (was his honeymoon scent) opium for men, joop (vom face) and L'egoitise which I used to adore in him, but due to a certain situation I cannot stand. I got thinking then of scents that you used to love, but now make you sick. Mine was Clinique aromatics. I had the lot, (must have been an olefactory migraine) shower gel, body lotion, scent. Then when I got pregnant with dd I knew someone I loathed who wore it. Combination of morning sickness and dislike means it turns my stomach to this day.

jaguar16 · 01/10/2016 10:00

Wow what a lovely thread!

Today is rainy so my SOTD to cheer myself up is my favourite summery smell Dior Escale a Portifino

I am very very fussy with scents and regularly wear very few!

BaronessBomburst · 01/10/2016 10:03

DS is currently wearing Elizabeth Taylor Diamonds and Rubies after a spray in the local cheapy shop.
He says he likes it but I don't think it's him. Grin
We've trawled all the shops in the village. There's an eclectic mix. Celeb scents are big, but none of the ones ever mentioned here. The only Lanvin is Oxygene, and the only Yardley/ Taylors is English Lavender.
Kruidvat has a whole range of smell-alikes for €7 a bottle, but they're kept behind the counter so you can't test them and no one knew what they were suppose to smell like anyway.

Oh well.

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 01/10/2016 10:09

Baroness, we have a shop called Equivalenza which is the same. I've been tempted, but you are faced with the shop assistants who want to follow your every step.

Perfume Parlour takes some beating IMO. Though I've compared the godawful-on-me Chanel 22 with the PP version, and the PP is infinitely gentler! (the 2 compared are virtually unrecognisable) whereas PP Rive Gauche I reckon is nicer than the insipid real stuff they churn out now. (that's on my list of vintages to grab hold of)
