Lovely, friendly perfume lovers thread

MissBattleaxe · 13/07/2016 22:26

This thread continues from our perfumistas thread which is now full. It is a lovely and friendly thread in which we discuss all things perfume-y, and ask for tips and share opinions and SOTDs ( Scent of The Day). Do drop in- we're not cliquey and we all smell nice.

Need to try this tweed perfume . Enjoying trying cheaper things snd it sounds like my kind of scent

SOTD estee lauder tuberose gardenia. This is becoming my weekend scent. I generally wear more spicey oriental or woody scents so flowers on the weekend is a sort of holiday. And it's so pretty dammit. I don't generally do pretty but in jeans and white t I just feel lovely in this. Flowers all day

OCSockOrphanage · 01/10/2016 20:25

Lovely idea to have a down time scent LastTime. And pretty is a good thing, if that's not your default.

Enabled by ThenLater, I am gripped by James Heeley. Sel Marin has had it's full day trial, and again,I am in love (okay, I am promiscuous). It doesn't last as well as Chypre 21 on my skin, but it is fresh, salty, low sillage and lovely, with bergamot which is a particular favourite of mine. In fact, I am so thrilled by the range that I have bought (another) set of samples. I am thinking that I may splurge on a 20ml decant of the chypre. May venture to Perfumed Court or Gerard's site sometime, if I can't keep myself busy.

AnotherPinkiePieStory · 01/10/2016 22:15

teta your poor DS. I remember being very sensitive during pregnancy. Stale smells are the worst. The boozy conferences were awful but onions and sweat. Ugh
baroness love the thought of DS in Liz! I can picture us all smelling our way around local shops. Mine does Bronnley soaps. May need to treat myself soon and gorgeous tins too.
thenlater perfume parlour keeps drawing me in but wow wow wow to fragrantica.com. So interesting I keep getting lost in it!
jaguar welcome. Please don't tempt me with more lovely smells!
Ive heard lovely things about Elizabeth and James perfumes. Has anyone tried them? Really expensive and not seen many samples

BaronessBomburst · 02/10/2016 10:29

I've just ordered Koko Shaneel and Black Orcheed from Perfume Parlour.
I'll let you all know when it arrives!

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 02/10/2016 14:35

I have PP Black Orcheed. It's not as rich or lasting as TF, but it's still good.
Sotd Dioressence. Am at inlaws for dd's birthday lunch and need to wear something sophisticated and classy to compete with snotty SIL 'how can you wear anything other than n5? ' Meh.

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 02/10/2016 14:36

Bois de Jasmine is my go-to page for reviews. I just love it.

margaritasbythesea · 02/10/2016 18:15

Excuse me for crashing your thread but if you perfumistas don't know the answer to my question there isn't one. Is there a place that will deliver Fragonard perfume to or in Spain for a reasonable price? Fragonard charge £12. Marks and Spencer won't let me order from the UK and their Eu shop doesn't stock beauty. I can't find it anywhere else.

I recently emigrated and my favourite perfume - their verveine - came open in my bag. I miss it every day.

OCSockOrphanage · 02/10/2016 18:25

Ask nicely and someone here might post some to you, with you PayPalling the cost... assuming their local M&S has it in stock. I would offer, but not sure that I have seen it in mine, except in the tissue sachets.

OCSockOrphanage · 02/10/2016 18:29

LOL at ThenLater's last post about SIL. I'd give you evens that your taste in scent is waaaay more sophisticated that hers!

AnotherPinkiePieStory · 02/10/2016 21:04

Bois de jasmine you say thenlater. Will settle down with Brew and peruse.
Also picked up Lidl suddenly Madame. Smells nice so far. I'm getting a rep as cheapy here! I do own No 5 too so your SIL should be ok. How odd.

SlinkyVagabond · 02/10/2016 21:09

The names on perfume parlour make me laugh though. Funnily enough sotd was their Musc Rav, now that lasts all day! I'm waiting till their version of Gris Montagne is back in stock before an order.

Badders123 · 02/10/2016 21:11

I bought knowing by Estée Lauder yesterday
My first "proper" perfume for a long time
I am VERY happy with it Grin

margaritasbythesea · 02/10/2016 21:29

I would give out a very pretty please OCsock. Thanks for responding.

BaronessBomburst · 02/10/2016 22:11

I'll have a look for you margaritas. DM lives in Spain and is visiting so I'd recently searched many a perfume stockist hoping for a cheaper bottle of Chanel. There were a few decent sites......

AnotherPinkiePieStory · 02/10/2016 22:35

margaritas will look in my local m&s but really variable stock! You never know!
badders that sounds lovely. Do describe.

Conflictedoncemore · 02/10/2016 22:44

I'm a perfume addict; some of my faves:

Jo Malone - Blackberry Bay
Chanel - Coco M
Tom Ford - Orchid Soleil
Lancôme - La Vie eat belle
L'occitane -Verbena

All have amazing staying power xx

margaritasbythesea · 03/10/2016 06:23

Thank you very much both. I tried to make it into an excuse to find a new perfume but I love this one.

Badders123 · 03/10/2016 06:39

Oh my goodness!
Wouldn't know where to start!
It's my b day on Saturday and I haven't bought really decent perfume for so long I decided that I wod treat myself 😂
I went to the nearest big town and tried on lots of fragrances - oddly enough I was determined I was going to love Shalimar by guerlain but it was only "ok" which really disappointed me
The lady in the shop was very good - and very patient with me! I must have sampled 2 dozen 😮
After I explained my likes - years ago I wore obsession and have also worn things like Stella and ysatis by givenchy she pointed me towards coco by chanel.
Now....I have a confession...I don't like any chanel perfume!
Just out of interest I went to the estee lauder counter as a very dear late aunt of mine always wore estee lauder fragrance.
When I was a child it was eau de estee and then that was replaced by white linen. They both smelled lovely on her abd she was always so glamourous and well dressed unlike me 😂
Anyway, I asked for a spray of estee and rather embArrassed myself by almost crying! It was just so.....her.
I knew those fragrances wouldn't suit me so asked to try cinnabar and the lady also recommended knowing.
..........

Badders123 · 03/10/2016 06:47

....my kindle just died so have switched to my phone!

I love cinnabar - such a deep, warm scent.
But I just couldn't make up my mind about knowing
At first I liked it - rose, oak moss, plum, melon, patchouli and woods.
Then after a while there was something I couldn't put my finger on that put me off so I left the store
By coincidence later that same day I had to go to a different town and went to another shop and asked to try some perfume there - tried several like angel, jimmy choo, Marc Jacobs new one... but I couldn't get knowing out of my mind!
I went back to the Estée Lauder counter and sprayed some on my wrist - WOW
I was right to love it!
But I still couldn't put my finger on one element then BAM realised it was clove I could smell!
I don't like cloves!
Disaster!
But I decided I love the rest of the Fragrance so much I could overlook the clove Smile
It also has mimosa and tuberose - I have found as I have gotten older I prefer deep rose based scent
Gosh- that was an essay - sorry!
I think knowing is warm and elegant - do try it!!! Smile

Cockblocktopus · 03/10/2016 07:20

Found a very sad looking bottle of Tweed at our local country chemist. Does not at all smell as I expected it to Confused and I didn't like it at first but it's faded to this beautiful powdery Amber. More an Autumn scent for me but only $16 so not bad for that!

Reminds me of a very jolly hockey sticks, powdery, maiden aunt of mine instead of the wool and leather and woody smell I was hoping for. Ah well!

lasttimeround · 03/10/2016 07:25

I love estee lauder fragrances too and somehow don't get on with Chanel. I think the chanels are generally lovely but they just aren't 'me'. Estee Lauder surprises me by how much I like them. I didn't really think of them as a perfume house (more skincare) but out of the very mainstream offering at the department stores here it's guerlain snd estee lauder that I gravitate to.
badders not that you have to like it by any means but bois de jasmine describes habit Rouge as a way into shalimar. I also find shalimar too far away from what I know but want to get it. I'm hoping it will be a bit like youth dew which I was initially spluttering over. I now frequently wear it and get such pleasure out of its richness and depth that I actually grateful for the experience!

I slightly envy you the scent memory. My mother's rive gauche and Tresor I think are different now or perhaps I have no scent memory. Although powerful evocation of first boyfriend every time I smell cool water - often makes me blush as he was a sexy bugger!!!

Badders123 · 03/10/2016 07:34

Lasttime...Smile good to hear I'm not only one who dislikes Chanel! My aunt died 2 years ago and she has been on my mind a lot lately for some reason. I felt so silly stood there with a wobbly lip and tears in my eyes!
Strangely the lady behind the counter has the same reaction to tweed! Her grandmother wore it.
I can't remember any boyfriends scents - or at least most of them wore lynx!! ConfusedGrin
Wasn't tweed a yardley fragrance?
I remember wearing lace as a young teen - and the one with white lid - gosh what was that one!? White satin!!!
My sister wore Lou lou which I loathed
I so wanted to love shalimar - but it was a bit underwhelming compared to knowing
I grew up when poison and Giorgio first came out - ugh! Awful!
I also love opium which my mother wore
But I think they have altered it? Doesn't seem to smell the same to me anyway...

BaronessBomburst · 03/10/2016 07:53

Margaritas You can buy Fragonard online from Amazon.es but the seller is having a laugh with his prices. It's €20 shipping too.
The Fragonard website itself seems to be the best; I can't find it cheaper anywhere.
But the reviews on Fragrantica! Does anybody not like this perfume?

CathemeralChild · 03/10/2016 08:04

Can we talk Chanel?
I've a bottle of Chance Edp 100ml which my best friend gave me because 'you love perfume'. There was a whole explanation as to why that particular scent was chosen, which was beautiful and makes it special, and it was not a cheap present, but I'm totally meh about it. It just smells like that ubiquitous perfume counter/ duty free smell. I wear it anyway, but, no, I get nothing.
Help me appreciate it!

margaritasbythesea · 03/10/2016 09:24

Thnk you Baroness - I am so frustrated with M and S eu you can't imagine! I have worn this perfume for about a year and though I have a selection at home it so often wins. It manages to stay interesting somehow, fresh and warm at the same time.

I am enjoying reading your thread, btw. It could be addictve!
