Lovely, friendly perfume lovers thread

MissBattleaxe · 13/07/2016 22:26

This thread continues from our perfumistas thread which is now full. It is a lovely and friendly thread in which we discuss all things perfume-y, and ask for tips and share opinions and SOTDs ( Scent of The Day). Do drop in- we're not cliquey and we all smell nice.

Where are you based, DailyFail? Can you try out the Chanel Exclusifs? You could try 'Bel Respiro', which is an elegant, fresh, 'green' scent. It's unusual but utterly feminine and tasteful. Quite how a scent can convey all that, I don't know - but it does.

Or you could fly the flag and wear Miller Harris 'L'Eau de Rien', which is quite sexy and unusual but quite a near-to-the-body and not overwhelming scent. Your clients wouldn't recognise it (hopefully) and it has a great British/European story behind it, too, which might be a conversation thing (if you do that sort of thing with your clients).

My browser cookies have obviously clocked my recent perfume searches and gave me an advert for the new No 5 L'Eau today. Has anyone smelt it? I'm devoted to No 5 but it does not sound like my cup of tea; the description was heavy on the citrus.

DailyFailAteMyFish · 03/09/2016 07:42

Thanks catfromjapan! I will go forth and google.
I'm in NI but have a house of fraser, Debenhams and Boots within reach at lunchtime.

needastrongone · 03/09/2016 09:14

Davidoff Cool Water Wave is lovely DailyFail, and not at all expensive. Long lasting and fresh. A daytime scent.

BaronessBomburst · 03/09/2016 10:24

How about Issey Miyake? That's clean and fresh. (I wear M&S Isis in the summer which is a dupe)

I went to the cheapy, sell everything, plastic tat store yesterday to see what they had to sniff. All the testers had the spray tops missing, and if it was on the shelves it didn't have a tester, and if there was a tester it wasn't in stock. Hmm
They had various Elizabeth Taylor but no White Diamonds, an Adam Levine tester which might have been interesting, and all the old school Lynx (Africa, Marine etc) and an impressive selection of Brut.
I bought a lavender toilet block and left.

AnotherPinkiePieStory · 03/09/2016 11:13

I like Isis too Baroness except for name (which randomly is same as my neighbours personalised plate which apparently cost a fortune 3 years ago and must be hard to resell now!) Grin at your shopping trip.
My allbeauty.com order just arrived. I've tried the Fancy nights body lotion which is a lovely rich Amber smell. Don't know how close it is to the perfume but will def try to track down now. Not like how I imagined a celebrity fragrance would smell. I've shyed away from them since my first ever perfume, which was bought by my dad. Gabriella sabatini: very random choice even by his 1990's standards!
DH is giggling at name but likes the smell too. Quite masculine so may offer to share.

marceline · 03/09/2016 12:36

My most recent discovery and obsession is Chanel Eau Vert. The citrus and flowery loveliness is intoxicating. But sadly it's such a fleeting and expensive joy....I wish they did an EDP in that exact scent.

MissBattleaxe · 03/09/2016 14:52

Dailyfail- try Philosophy Amazing Grace- it's very pure and clean and light.

Or Chanel No 19- a good green green chypre that's cool and classy. Chanel Cristalle is another safe bet- green and clean but not too citrussy ( faint bergamot/lemon). I wore it for 20 years and I still go back to it. It's excellent for daytime as it's never overpowering,

Seren I had a sniff yesterday, was underwhelmed, smelt of nothing. It's on a card, so will dig it out to see if I'd gone nose blind.
I've not bothered today as I'd gone to town with the intention of a house of Fraser end of holiday blowout, found nothing to inspire. But id showered with Waitrose vanilla and camomile shower gel, which isn't vanillery at all but is very clean and light. Wish they did it as a body spray.
Was digging in my drawer and found a bottle of Prada ambre that I got cheap, on a whim,I'm not keen, so think I might eBay.

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 03/09/2016 15:54

slinky what's prada Ambre like? i realllly wantto try it but keep missing getting it and no nowhere near me sells it Sad

no sotd yet still deciding what i want as its cold and rainy here

DailyFailAteMyFish · 03/09/2016 17:31

So many wonderful ideas! I'm going to slink off into town tomorrow. Thank you so much!

Judydreamsofhorses · 03/09/2016 18:49

SOTD is Bella Freud 1970, worn with opaque tights and the Hush ruched skirt - Autumn!

Thanks to everyone who replied ref Liz Earle, it is the number 15 one. They definitely have it in Boots here, so I might pop in at lunchtime on Monday. (Or save it until Friday as a reward for making it through the week.)

cressetmama · 03/09/2016 20:26

I have the Prada Eau Ambree, on a TK Maxx purchase. I like the scent, but it doesn't last on my skin.

Took a fancy to a random spray yesterday, and lucky dipped: came up with Wazamba, from PdE (a house I like, mostly) . It's never been a favourite, but it was lovely yesterday, a soft warm patchouli with saffron and spices.

Today, no scent as I took DS out driving and he complains if scent is overpowering in the car.

OliveBranchCollins · 03/09/2016 21:27

Hi all I've been dipping in and out of these threads and yesterday purchased Coco Mademoiselle and Viktor and Rolf Flowerbomb it's my first foray into proper grown up EDP.
Wore the mademoiselle yesterday and the Flowerbomb today sprayed on at 7am and am stil sat sniffing it now.
I love both of them so what else could I try next?

Sixpencenonethericher · 04/09/2016 13:40

Hello sotd is Ellie Saab Leau couture it's lovely

Judydreamsofhorses · 04/09/2016 14:21

SOTD is Heeley Sel Marin. I am looking forward to Autumn, but will really miss wearing this - I suspect it won't translate well to cooler days.

SheStoodInTheStorm · 04/09/2016 17:41

Managed to try SJP Lovely today and I'm not sure what I think of it!

Tried Stella too but it hasn't really lasted on me.

I find this a total minefield!

teta · 04/09/2016 18:14

Sotd is Chanel's Cristalle EDP.I was so pleased to return home to my 'Green' perfumes.

Justdreams I love Sel Marin too.In fact I buy James Heeley samples every year for my holidays. The Verveine perfume is so beautiful.

Well I'm back to reality now.One D's has loads of holiday homework to do in two days! And I Never want to do a holiday again with my domineering childless sister in law plus 4 kids.

MissBattleaxe · 05/09/2016 12:47

teta- Cristalle is such a classic. I wore it for twenty years and still love it now despite my scent promiscuity!

Judydreamsofhorses · 05/09/2016 13:01

SOTD is Narciso Rodriguez For Her. It's a bit cooler today, so this feels perfect.

needastrongone · 05/09/2016 19:22

It's really warm here today, I'm sat in a vest and shorts, it was bloody freezing yesterday!

SOTD has been Vera Wang Princess, which on me is light and fresh and feels right for the weather. Long lasting.

I had Chanel Chance for a long time. And Coco, which I loved at the time (probably 20 years ago!). I have no Chanel at present. Strange.

SerenDippitee · 05/09/2016 19:58

I looked like a loon but had a good sniff of the Lynx scents in Sainsburys, and put on some of the Oud and Dark Vanilla. Too much vanilla for me so I didn't buy it but I was impressed!

MrsCocoa · 06/09/2016 00:26

SotD Bvlgari Black. Bit tamer now than it seemed on release in the late 90s.

If anyone is interested in swapping almost 9ml of 4160's Up the Apples and Pears (from The Four Mysteries collection), perhaps for another 4160 fragrance, then please pm me!

teta · 06/09/2016 08:29

DailyFail have you tried any of the Ormonde Jayne Perfumes ?Many are lovely and very suitable for work.I particularly love Tiare and Frangipani.I wear Tiare when I want to appear efficient ,as its a cool green floral with a similar vibe to Cristalle.Another good English brand is Miller Harris.Terre d 'iris and Feuilles de Tabac smell wonderful on.

Sotd is the gorgeous fresh green floral Tiare.I'm so pleased I bought a bottle of this .Even though its been my most expensive purchase ever.
MissBattleaxe Cristalle is beautiful. But I'm puzzled I love it now as I used to dislike nearly all Chanel perfumes. But I'm now really irritated by my simple florals that I previously adored. And loving slightly bitter greens. Is it my age ?

Sixpencenonethericher · 07/09/2016 09:32

Morning sotd is Marc Jacobs Daisy blush it's so nice
