Lovely, friendly perfume lovers thread

MissBattleaxe · 13/07/2016 22:26

This thread continues from our perfumistas thread which is now full. It is a lovely and friendly thread in which we discuss all things perfume-y, and ask for tips and share opinions and SOTDs ( Scent of The Day). Do drop in- we're not cliquey and we all smell nice.

Cresta I wou!d wait until you're there.Italy has Wonderful Niche perfumers like Profumum Roma and many others.

BaronessBomburst · 01/09/2016 12:45

Aha! Found you all again.

Lynx. Oh my. 😂😂 I spent a summer as a student working in the factory packaging the Xmas gift sets. We were a long production line and every hour the bell chimed and we all moved along one place. There were three positions for folding the boxes and after three hours I always had cut and bloodied fingers from the sharp edges on the cardboard.

No SOTD as yet but I'm wearing an understated grey dress; it's got to be the sophistication of a Tauer.

MrsSeanBeanIsAtWork · 01/09/2016 12:50

Hello :)
Someone said I smelt nice today. Hope the inference isn;t I don't normally.... anyway I'm wearing Diptyque Philosykos EDT.

I have also been testing Acqua di Parma Iris Nobile (EDP) and am in love.

Sixpencenonethericher · 01/09/2016 13:56

Has anyone dabbled in the Christian Dior special editions edts? They had them today in Fenwicks, I was drawn like a moth to a flame. Extremely lovely man staffing it who i had a lively chat to (to dds horror) Grin. I got two cards one Gris Montagne a green aldehyde and Ambre Nuit a down and dirty musky one. I darent ask how much (got a feeling it was a "if you have to ask you can't afford" thing) But oooo I was seriously tempted.

SheStoodInTheStorm · 01/09/2016 17:55

Oh wise ones, what's the difference between a EDT & EFP?

FrustratedFrugal · 01/09/2016 17:58

Do you mean eau fraiche or eau de parfum?

FrustratedFrugal · 01/09/2016 18:01

Here's a guide. In practice, EF and EDT meant to be refreshing burst of perfume that fade quiclky and EDPs more lingering, but in practice whatever lasting power you get varies a lot.

SheStoodInTheStorm · 01/09/2016 18:05

Really helpful, thank you!

needastrongone · 01/09/2016 20:29

I'm itching to buy SJP after all this praise!

I have Vera Wang Princess coming from Ebay from the Tesco Outlet though as a bargain chance choice.

I think someone asked about Tom Ford, was is Wild Orchid or Black Orchid, I'm not sure? The latter for me is the better, it's so intense and woody, like an aftershave. Today however I was in Debenhams and tried Orchid Soleil, stunning. Wish list for Christmas. I have just got White Patchouli, which is lovely too, but I need to break the TF habit Smile

Stand out tester today was Victor and Rolf Spicebomb Extreme, 100% on the wishlist too

Sixpencenonethericher · 01/09/2016 20:56

My dd got sjp lovely for her birthday it's so nice

cressetmama · 01/09/2016 22:50

SoTD was Upper Ten. I rather think it was developed for men, but it's a pleasantly complex citrus-y fragrance with notes of amber and patch for longevity. It was a freebie sample from Germany, and I liked it... probably not enough to buy, unless it was in TKMaxx at clearance price.

BaronessBomburst · 02/09/2016 08:40

I went for the Incense Rose MissBattleaxe as I remembered I still haven't reviewed that one. I spent the afternoon sniffing my wrists and getting bursts of scent when I walked in the sun or leaned over the kettle.
I was also briefly investigated by a wasp but I ignored him so he went away.
And I still need to review it! It's going to be gone at this rate. Grin

Judydreamsofhorses · 02/09/2016 08:58

I fell off this thread when it dropped off the front page - hello! SOTD is Rive Gauche. I love this in autumn, but it's actually possibly still a bit too warm and sunny for it today.

I have £50-odd of Boots points and am dithering about one of the Liz Earle perfumes, the spicy kind of one, not the original citrus-y scent. Anyone like it?

lasttimeround · 02/09/2016 09:03

Youth Dew again today. I need something formidable (in both English and French sense - hah - im having tough week and apres l'ondee makes me cry - this makes me strong!) I'm surprised at how wearable I'm finding it (it's the bath oil) as the first time I smelled it i just recoiled in shock. Half way through the day the flowers start to bloom in it and I get this very dark, plush, very red, rose.

FrustratedFrugal · 02/09/2016 10:03

SOTD Nicolai's Le temps d'une fete for the past few days. The narcissus note is thick, animalic, almost fecal but in set the context of a lush bouquet. A great late summer perfume.

Sixpencenonethericher · 02/09/2016 12:33

Sotd is Marc Jacobs daisy dream

wiltingfast · 02/09/2016 13:05

SOTD Maison Margiela's Untitled

Lovely elegant warm green, this one. One of my favourites. Bitter but sweet. Can be almost overpowering, like walking through a a thick wet wood in Spring. Settles beautifully Smile

needastrongone · 02/09/2016 13:33

I haven't tried Liz Earle Judy, sorry. But didn't want you go go unanswered.

I have a soft spot for Daisy and Daisy Dream, but have neither at present.

SOTD is Vera Wang Princess, which was £14 on Ebay at the Tesco Outlet. I've only just sprayed, and can only get chocolate and a musky smell so far, but it's lovely. Light, so a daytime scent for me.

Birchbox sent a small sampler of English Laundry by Christopher Wickes, so I shall try this tomorrow.

chough · 02/09/2016 13:38

Judy, the Liz Earle spicy one is lovely, and I've had compliments while wearing it.
It's Botanical Essence No 15: I bought mine in Boots only a few weeks ago, and it was £49.
Not all Boots branches stock Liz Earle: check on the LE website if you're not sure.

SheStoodInTheStorm · 02/09/2016 17:47

Went to Boots today, excited to smell SJP....and they didn't have it Sad Will have to try again!

thecatfromjapan · 02/09/2016 19:37

I'm happy about the Lynx-love on here. I've been buying those new ones for dh, having decided that if he is not terribly bothered as to how he is scented, he might as well be scented in a way I appreciate.

i tried the new Burberry yesterday. It's very pleasing and comforting: fruit (blackberry? peach? and vanilla). However, I also tried the Van Cleef and Arpels "California Reverie", which was a seductive and happy tuberose. I really am very fond of tuberose.

Today, I'm feeling melancholy in "28 La Pausa". I'm wearing yoga clothes and feel my iris-infused mournfulness should be a little more elegantly attired.

AnotherPinkiePieStory · 02/09/2016 22:13

judy I have a sample Liz Earle no.20 and liked it but didn't last long enough for me. I recently spent my Boots points on a few Library of fragrance perfumes: thunderstorm and orange blossom. Really simple but when layered transform into more interesting scents. My DH bought me Oud which is lovely but too full on and I need to try mixing it with something else to stop people fainting on first sniff!
I'm loving the Lynx love. Hoorah. Will not smell alone.
SOTD Mary Greenwell Plum. Fruity but not as well done as Fire.
I'm looking forward to that Burberry one cat will look out for it.

DailyFailAteMyFish · 02/09/2016 23:38

Hi, can I pick your brains about a 'confident' perfume?
I would wear Chanel 19 pure perfume for going out, Body Shop English Rose for day to day this summer and Laura Mercier Eau Gourmand Vanille in the winter.
I need something light, bright and clean but not citrussy or cloying. Perfume would be worn to meet clients in America. Advice gratefully accepted.
