MissBattleaxe · 13/07/2016 22:26

This thread continues from our perfumistas thread which is now full. It is a lovely and friendly thread in which we discuss all things perfume-y, and ask for tips and share opinions and SOTDs ( Scent of The Day). Do drop in- we're not cliquey and we all smell nice.

Hi everyone, we're falling off the front page!

SOTD Miller Harris Le Pamplemousse (Again). It's just SO good. The weather's muggy so it sort of slices though the heat with its citrussy magic.

Darlingcoffee Beauty spin sell Annick Goutal's at a discount online .Type the perfume name Into the Fragantca website to see similar smelling ones.
Sotd is Cristalle EDP.Fresh and green for a sunny day.

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 26/08/2016 12:10

hi missBattleaxe! did your parcel arrive?!

no SOTD as yet, im just too hot to choose anything,m i have so many lovely things to choose from as well it seems such a shame to have none on

lasttimeround · 26/08/2016 12:40

Are these discount sites safe to buy from? I'm a bit worried to end up with the wrong juice. Otherwise I keep thinking of all ghetto lovely stuff I could have...
Is there anything to watch out for? Or reliable sites anyone recommends?

lasttimeround · 26/08/2016 12:44

I was just looking at beautyspin and they have vetiver, california reverie, habit Rouge and eau de charlotte (an old old fave of mine which I'd love to have but probably wouldn't wear anymore as I associate it with me in my late 20s - and jam). I'm pretty new to all this but have rapidly burgeoning obsession and apart from a good guerlain counter there's nothing else available to sniff regularly.

teta · 26/08/2016 14:30

Well,I bought a bottle of California reverie a while ago.And le Chevrefeuille by Annick Goutal from there and all perfumes were fine.Plus loads of samples. They are very well reviewed on Fragantica and stock brilliant Niche perfumes that I find hard to get ( and sample).

DarlingCoffee · 26/08/2016 14:38

Thanks teta!

Calminaqualm · 27/08/2016 17:45

I have been following this thread for ages (thanks for all the tips on perfumes to try!) so thought I would join in to bump it! My favourite scent in this hot weather is Shay & Blue's Blood Oranges. It opens with a true bitter but juicy orange peel citrus which persists through to leather and woods. On me it lasts for 4 or 5 hours, but is just a skin scent by then.

SlinkyVagabond · 27/08/2016 17:55

A cheapy! I was in our local Boyes (nthern store selling all sorts) and picked up Bronnley Orange and Jasmine cologne. 3 quid. Perfect for hot days, a orange blossom/juice start then warming to jasmine and bitter orange. Lasts hardly any time but it gives me a lovely boost.i give my bedding a spritz before jumping in.
Right, Autumn is on the way! Yayy! What's our top tips for a lovely transition scent?

ggirl · 27/08/2016 18:18

Calminaqualm --oooh that sounds gorgeous

this thread makes me want to buy so many !!!

teta · 27/08/2016 19:22

Sounds refreshing Slinky.
Wearing Nerolia Bianca today -A Guerlain Aqua Allegoria bitter orange and Neroli.

chough · 27/08/2016 19:46

I was flattered this morning when the checkout girl in Aldi said how nice my perfume is, and asked what it was, as she wanted to buy some.
It was Liz Earle No 15.

lasttimeround · 28/08/2016 19:41

That's so nice chough. I love it when someone takes an appreciative sniff of me.
I tried on tuberose gardenia today amongst others. Was really like 'oh that's not me' - I'm not a floral perfume wearer more spicy woody with jasmin as the flower that im drawn to but i wanted to try some other white florals as an exercise almost. Realised that i also just love orange blossom.
But over the day tuberose gardenia stood out and has grown on me hugely. It's very romantic and feminine but not at all girlish. I like tuberose but thought I find it too heady (my awful fracas experience still looms large). This is so refined and almost light (although its quite a heavy perfume) it just feels refined for all the froth. Maybe that's the gardenia although I don't have a clear sense of how gardenia smells except from the body shop. Or it could be that fracas is just a tuberose that really hits you square. This keeps wafting up from my wrist and makes me feel just lovely.

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 28/08/2016 20:00

SOTD is the sample of English Laundry women's (pink coloured, can't remember exact name) from my last Birchbox. I like. Floral but fruity but light. Nice.

Calminaqualm · 28/08/2016 20:19

Lasttimeround, you might be interested in Madonna's Truth or Dare (it's the one in a white bottle). It is a tuberose and gardenia perfume with vanilla. For something as cheap as chips, it smells really classy and is long-lasting. It's quite heady and creamy, but makes me want to keep sniffing at my wrist all day.

lasttimeround · 28/08/2016 22:09

I'll need to look that up. Thank you calm. I'm getting really into this but a little scared of the £££. Funny tho that type of smell is not at all what I'd associate with Madonna or Truth or Dare. It's v lady like. I know from somewhere Madonna liked/wore Eau de Hadrian which is such an austere citrus tuxedo which fits in my mind with her in suits. I'd expect truth or dare to be filthy somehow... I must seek it out.

SlinkyVagabond · 29/08/2016 02:07

Speaking of Madge et al, are there any nice celeb scents? I know SJP is liked, but are any others?

NorthFlameglitter · 29/08/2016 02:13

Glad I found this thread as I love my perfumes and have just bought my 5th perfume whilst on holiday (a treat to myself) as a holiday reminder.

I just recently bought YSL Black Opium which has vanilla and coffee undertones with a hint of tangerine. Beautiful! And not a bad price too either - £45.99 for a 50ml bottle.

DarlingCoffee · 29/08/2016 06:25

I want to check out Celine Dion's scents as apparently one of them is a dupe for Petite Cherie. I think it's called sheer brilliance. Also if anyone likes Jo Malones pear and freesia. Waitrose Heritage range sell a hand soap and shower gel that smells very close.

SerenDippitee · 29/08/2016 08:55

May I join you?

SOTD is Prada Infusion d'Homme. Pinched from DH who received it as a gift and never wears it. Very similar to the women's Infusion d'Iris. I'm not a fan of citrus, even in summer; in warm weather I want minerals, salt, and ozone. I'm thinking of ordering SJP Lovely today as it's only £22 on Amazon for 100ml edp gift set, and I've heard that it's salty in the mid-notes. Can anyone confirm?

Slinky if you're up for a big, aldehydic white floral then I've always had a soft spot for Elizabeth Taylor White Diamonds. It's definitely a vintage vibe and not for everyone, though!

SerenDippitee · 29/08/2016 09:00

PS I don't want to wish the summer away but is anyone else looking forward to cooler weather to get back into certain scents? I had a whiff of my Cuir de Lancôme when getting something else out of my scent drawer and I can't wait to wear it again on our first properly chilly autumn day.

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 29/08/2016 10:54

serendipitee yes there is a salt tone to Lovely int he mid section. it's not huge or overblown but it is there. i love it and im so impressed by it being a celeb fragrance as tbh, they are normally pretty hideous and all smell the same. ive been wearing it most of the summer and have had nothing but compliments on it

SlinkyVagabond · 29/08/2016 11:04

I'm not a big one for florals actually, the exception to the rule is a bottle of Jean Patou's Sublime, but it's for those days in February when you long for Spring, I think it's tuberose.
SOTD for me is a spritz of dhs Chanel Pour Monsieur, starts with tarte au citron, now it's a lovely soapy leathery scent with a touch of sandalwood. I bought his first bottle of it on honeymoon in Paris 36 years ago and it takes me back.

MissBattleaxe · 29/08/2016 12:21

Welcome SerenDippitee! I love the Prada Infusion range. I shall look out for the men's on, now you've said it's in the same vein.

Seren I'm all about leathers and chypres right now. Autumn is my favorite perfume-wearing season...
