This thread continues from our perfumistas thread which is now full. It is a lovely and friendly thread in which we discuss all things perfume-y, and ask for tips and share opinions and SOTDs ( Scent of The Day). Do drop in- we're not cliquey and we all smell nice.

*in advance and sorry for typos!

BaronessBomburst · 18/08/2016 23:45

I am about to go on holiday! I've got to be up in three and a half hours and haven't gone to bed yet. I may not bother.
So, Incense Rose will have to wait until I'm back from touring the UK visiting relatives. Did I say holiday? :(

PS it was divine.
PPS I get to collect the vintage Arpege from my brother's house.
and all the other things I've been buying on eBay

AnotherPinkiePieStory · 19/08/2016 06:56

Thanks for best wishes guys and I've loved reading your descriptions Baroness : really has cheered me up thinking of such evocative smells. I had a squirt of Library of Fragrance Mango which my DS said reminded him of haribo. Not sure it's a keeper!
Good news is that we should be going home in pass today so back to perfume. Think I might start with reassuring Chanel no 5

wiltingfast · 19/08/2016 10:14

Ohh alas alack, someone from this thread (ambroxide I think?) sent me some perfume and it broke in the post Sad I could smell it coming up the drive! Such a pity, smelt gorgeous, was it Fire?

Envelope smells beauuutiful though Grin

Laughing at the Tauer descrptions, I got a lovely sample set from him and one after another I hated them. Apart from LADDM, would LOVE a FB of that. Carillon pour un Ange was particularly bad.

Lonesome Rider sounds interesting though, I do like leathers. Hmm, might be time for another sample set Grin

SOTD here is Coromandel. Applied with a v light hand as am at work. It is dull and autumnal outside and its warm spiciness is cheering me up. I like the way it is different depending on how much you put on...

BaronessBomburst · 21/08/2016 10:20

I'm a bit disappointed by the perfume selection on the ferry!
I was up at four, showered, and deliberately didn't put anything on. Okay, so I wasn't expecting Tom Ford or Hermes, but they don't even have Chanel or Guerlain. Just a massive Miss Dior promotion and lots of chunky, gilded bottles with ridiculous lids, the contents of which all smelt rather similar.
I've plumped for Givenchy Ange ou Démon as it was a normal looking bottle, and the first whiff was of marzipan, so something different. Then it went to a papery, dry, just ironed hot linen sort of smell (lillies?), and is now developing into a clean, warm, vanilla floral, but with a depth I love. I keep thinking it should be in yellow packaging. The black doesn't match. It's nice, which is just as well as I sprayed rather liberally.

On another note, the gin selection was disappointing too, but they've got Bombay Sapphire on offer which is always a good staple. Wink

  • I actually wrote that on Thursday but haven't had a chance to post. I liked Ange ou Démon so much I'm planning on sampling it again on the way back. SOTD will be Coco by Chanel, which was an eBay decant. It came in a beautiful pink atomiser which I can refill.
OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 21/08/2016 12:50

oh i love the smell of Ange ou Demon in the bottle but on my skin it ends up smelling like toilet duck Sad

still havent decided on a sotd yet as ive been busy with housework and im a bit frazzled now

ggirl · 21/08/2016 18:01

SOTD is diptyque philosykos

anniversary present from hubby

love it ..suits the rather cool day we're having

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 21/08/2016 22:22

SOTD is Blu Montana. WOW....one powerful scent!!! I had forgotten how the sillage is the best ever, and how bewitching it is. Peonies and musk and rose - beautiful!! But he warned, one spritz is more than enough!!!

BaronessBomburst · 21/08/2016 22:34

L'Air du Desert Marocain has just appeared on eBay as a decant if anyone's interested. I've got Tauer saved as a followed search, other than that I can't comment on the seller or anything. They've also got lots of things I've never heard of so possibly a niche seller?

wiltingfast · 21/08/2016 22:51

Ooooo. Runs off to check it out Grin

wiltingfast · 21/08/2016 23:00

Wow pretty hefty price tag there, 1.5m is €7. I can buy a full 50ml bottle for €90 Hmm (c€1.80/ml)

Think I'll hold out and get some at Xmas....

BaronessBomburst · 21/08/2016 23:44

The one I found was £4, with free postage.

LADDM is fantastic on crisp autumn days.

I am feeling the nip in the air and officially starting the season of chypres.
Easing into it gently by enveloping myself into the plummy goodness of Femme by Rochas.

Fruity chypres = feminine curves with a backbone of corsetry. Grin

AnotherPinkiePieStory · 23/08/2016 09:31

Wow I love that analogy frustrated. I am in hospital with DS so hope that my perfume sample boxes arrive soon. Going to try to learn more through the Perfume Society.

cressetmama · 23/08/2016 20:42

Away on holiday to the Cote d'Azure tomorrow. What's nice and new to sniff at Brizzle (Bristol) airport?

takesnoprisoners · 24/08/2016 10:31

Hot day today so SOTD is Roses by L'occitane.

teta · 24/08/2016 10:42

Bristols not that Interesting Cressetmama.I ended up buying Chanel Cristalle EDP.There are no exclusives and only a couple of Tom Fords. But I did spray myself with lots of mainstream perfumes that i'd wanted to test for a while!

Sotd is Rose Perfection by Piguet.I start wearing this in Autumn. There's a lot of crunchy leaves on the ground here.

lasttimeround · 24/08/2016 13:35

I have it and am just do pleased. Apres L'Ondee - spicy floral smells like after the rain but not in any literal sense. There's a spicy dampness under iris that's not too powdery. Beguiling and beautiful.

lasttimeround · 24/08/2016 13:37

Bottle is just lovely too

Lovely, friendly perfume lovers thread
needastrongone · 24/08/2016 17:11

That is indeed a lovely bottle.

SOTD was Happy, I wasn't going out of the house today, other than to run tonight. I am fond of this scent nevertheless, and often 'go to' it I am in a rush before work and need to scent and go....It does indeed make me feel, er, happy!

Yesterday was Azure Lime by Tom Ford. It's my absolute favourite TF, and the first DH ever bought me. I have very little left, I ration, but often just can't resist using it. It never fails elicit a comment, and lasts all day.

Tomorrow is GCSE results day for DS, I need to smell of success Smile

ggirl · 24/08/2016 17:34

lasttimeround that bottle is gorgeous and your description sounds ike I need to visit a guerlain counter

ggirl · 24/08/2016 17:35

My SOTD was anais anais , crips floral to cut through the humidity

midnightmoomoo · 24/08/2016 18:50

Popping out of lurkdom to ask if anyone has any thoughts about Tom Ford Velvet Orchid? I have a sample and love it, is it worth buying a full size? I'd been planning on a Chanel, I've not had a TF before.

lasttimeround · 24/08/2016 21:13

Been doing some reading - it's violets not iris in Apres L'Ondee. I'm going to bed doused in it. It's very grounding calm somehow while also very feminine. I feel deeply content in this.

I'm sometimes astonished by having quite visceral reactions to scent. (I'm quite a practical sort usually) I tried Fracas a few weeks back in selfridges. Liked it on the card but 10 mins after spraying it on my skin (it was lovely at first) I was actually distressed by how badly I needed it off. The girl at the make up counter was very kind as I begged for alcohol based remover and tissues and scrubbed like a mad woman. Wierd

DarlingCoffee · 25/08/2016 19:55

Pip, I adore Petite Cherie too! It's my favourite ever perfume (and I work for a competitor so shouldn't really say that!). Have been tempted to try Nuit Etoilee also by AG but so far not managed it. DH always snorts at the price come birthday time! Does anyone out there know of a cheaper version of either scent?

SOTD 4711 reminds me of my Nanna and so refreshing in this heat.
