Come and chat about fashion, make up and anything glittery and frivolous. We'll take your bad hair day seriously and you never have to apologise for a new bag Grin

And if you happen to know where I can find comfortable but stylish trainers in kakhi or dark brown you are particularly welcome (Blatant abuse of thread setting up privileges) Wink

HELp need Pettys advice please.
Finally got around to trying them on. They are slightly snug. i've got suede ones, will they stretch at all? Not sure whether to send them back or persevere. At the moment they don't feel that comfortable but i do like them.

Advice please

maradesbois · 29/04/2016 08:32

Morning!

Sitting in front of the laptop in my dressing gown bemoaning 5pm deadline, really struggling with this piece of work it bores me so can't get motivated. Getting near the end of my course though, the real world is beckoning!

Shop love the stans, think they are the ones Blair got.

Have a wonderful time Blair.

Dream maybe you should forget about the pettys and keep your cash for something else? If uncomfortable you'll never wear them. I made that mistake with some tod's ballet flats from summer sale last season. They hurt in a way I know won't give, really annoying.

Dry, no, forget about floaty kimonos. Put what you would've spent on it in the red loafer fund Wink

FedupNagging · 29/04/2016 10:01

Dream my petty's did not stretch AT ALL despite all attempts! Follow Mara's advice and look elsewhere. I will be ebaying mine in the autumn Sad

Am sending mega concentration vibes to you Mara.....

Your weekend sounds lovely Topaz; your dd will need some distraction and a good meal by the sounds of it!

Have just checked out the Gucci loafers Dry - they are gorgoeus. Kat linked some fab styles, I also loved the block heeled ones. Amber did you get the backless loafers you had your eye on?

Ootd is a step up from yesterday - maison scotch navy skinnies, mih breton and stans. Will wear grey cos scarf and denim jacket when I go out.

QueenC · 29/04/2016 14:31

It's all very quiet on here. Although with awful changeable weather it's hard to get excited about clothes. I realised yesterday that I have so much unworn stuff just waiting for the warmer weather.

I had to go shopping today for some bits for the dc. In desperation I went in river island-didn't find anything for them but managed to buy some boyfriend jeans for me! I'm just hoping that they don't stretch too much as they're not a snug fit but there's no way I'd get in a 6. I really like them with my heeled boots.

topaz your weekend sounds good. We're just chilling. My dp are coming down which is always nice. I'm out with a friend tonight, no idea what to wear though yet.

shopafrolic · 29/04/2016 15:53

Thanks for all the well wishes for DH and DF.
I went to see DF this morning and helped him get to the bank - he is walking with a stick now and very unsteady but we are getting there.
DH is improving - last day on his antibiotics today and we start Sleep's elimination diet on Sunday. I ordered a NutriBullet from JL but it is taking an age to get here. Does anyone have one? Please PM me any smoothie recipes if you do Thanks
I wore my Second Female coatigan today for the school run with R&B black skinnies (AGAIN) and my black Woolovers crew neck, Crisi boots. So cold but the coatigan feels good on the school run.
Mara hope you hit your deadline. I didn't realise Blair had the furry Stans. Will be interested to see if they squeak as they will have to go straight back if they do and I'll change style.
QueenC don't think I've seen you in Boyfriend jeans - wear them for the MU?
What time are we meeting?
Missed loads I know but I hope everyone has wonderful weekends.
Today was the funeral of a local girl who died very young (1st year at uni). The wake is happening now, so many desperately sad young faces - just horrible :(

BerniceBobsHerHair · 29/04/2016 16:14

Hello everyone

I am very behind as usual.

Shop I think I missed that DF was home. Hope he is doing okay, and also that your DH gets better soon. Is he still under your feet at home? Hope he gets on well with Sleep's diet.

I love that coatigan and think the stans are perfect for you - hope they don't squeak!

Topaz well done. Think I asked on here about 5:2 but I am not good with self denial. Will check out Michael Moseley.

DreamQ I would also say try something other than pettys. I've never had success stretching out shoes. Have you looked at Hudson? They usually have nice boots and good sales.

Mara hope the assignment is going well. Don't think I realised your course is just a year long - not long to go now then!

I popped into RI today too QueenC. Their jeans are supposed to be good quality for the price. I loved this jacket

Oh yes Dry the gucci loafers would be fab for you. I read on DMBL40 blog that she had trouble finding them in stock though. I really love the block heeled ones she tried on - so beautiful

Kitty I like those BR chinos and I have been looking for something similar for ages. Do you find they keep their shape or do they bag over the day? And what is BR sizing like? Do you size down as with Gap? Shame BR aren't so generous with the money off codes as Gap is.

Blair hope you have a wonderful time away.

I've bought this but I'm uncertain....I think it looks better open on me but I'm not sure if I'll feel like wearing it like that. Need to have a play around with it I guess.

My outfit is very similar to yours Fedup - breton, rolled skinnies, flat suede boots and becksondergaard star scarf and YSL blazer - when will the weather improve??

Happy bank holiday weekends all.

Longislandicetee · 29/04/2016 18:37

Evening! I have nothing of fashionable note to say Grin

I am wearing J crew long tee (white) with blue matchstick jeans, Nike trainers (old!) and LA Gear hoodie (grey). It's very appropriate for this weekend Grin

justasecond · 29/04/2016 19:06

Hi all
lots to catch up on, have had a busy week so glad its Friday.
Viva big congratulations for completing the marathon, what an amazing achievement!
Blair hope you are having a brill time
shop hope df and dh are better. I like the furry bit on those stans
Dry you should totally get those loafers. I have had my eye on these for a while gucci marmont I have enough in my paypal for them and am wondering if I should get them Blush I was plotting a pre mu try on at the bond st store as they may well look awful on. Also beige may be better.
topaz well done on the weightloss.
dream agree with the others re the pettys I have learnt that buying shoes that are too tight in case they stretch is always a bad idea!
Mara good luck with your assignment, I am looking forward to finding out what you are studying at the mu!
Bernice I like that coat, how would you wear it?
No shopping news but I returned the me and em jogger trousers, they were just a bit meh for the price.

louloubelle2 · 29/04/2016 19:27

Dreamqueen Have continued to lurk to see your petty update! Is it the half size which is still too tight? That's such a shame, but my other thought was that the pettys are pretty narrow, could that be more the problem than the length?

I would agree with PPs though, it doesn't sound like these are the boots for you. In actual fact, I confess I cancelled my zalando order as I figured we are (hopefully) heading into sandal season soon, and if not, I have a couple of pairs of ankle boots (ash jalouse and r&b chelsea boots) which will see me through the outfits which the pettys may have otherwise suited. I'm going to save my money for the new season a/w styles - which could very well be a trend for a higher length boot maybe?

Dreamqueen · 29/04/2016 19:51

Thank you everyone for petty responses. They feel ok but while being a little tight, they are sort of flopping up and down at the heel. I've decided to return them having taken all the good advice. i just don't feel the love for them as much as I want to. I have some Hudon open toe ankle boots which hopefully if the weather improves I can get out until I find a replacement.

i already have a huge pile of not quite comfy shoes & boots. At the moment they are in the bottom of a cupboard. I can't decide whether to try & ebay them or to just drop them off at the charity shop. i did ebay a few years ago when I decided to get rid of all my burberry stuff from the 90s. That was very successful but most of what i have to get rid of now is mainly high st and shoes & boots. is it worth doing ebay or should I just donate it?

Drywhitethanks · 29/04/2016 22:27

Ok....Gucci loafer love all round then.

VivaVegas · 30/04/2016 08:11

Morning, have spent the week on a high but now coming back down to reality!
Will look at Michael Mosley as need to start eating better, have got away with eating what I want with all my training but now I'll ease off a bit I won't get away with that anymore.
A couple of purchases, managed to pick up a le pilage in a local charity shop for £3.99. It's hardly used and a nice blue so has already been used.
I then bought this Boden stripy top with the 25% off this week, not arrived yet but hoping will be good with jeans, navy 7/8s for work (if it ever warms up) and possibly with my Whistles tube skirt.
A day of decorating today but out with DH tonight so need to think about what I'll wear while I'm wealding my paintbrush!

VivaVegas · 30/04/2016 08:12

I got the top in the navy/ white colourway, it has linked the wrong picture.

Stokey · 30/04/2016 08:36

Dreamqueen agree with what the others have said. I hardly ever wear my Petty's as they are a bit tight (and a bit too formal for me).

Well done on the weight loss Topaz. I need to lose some too but keep getting distracted and eating too much.

I've got a 40th today. I'm not sure what to wear as it starts with lunch at a restaurant, then on to the pub and finishes off as a house party. Maybe black midi skirt, cut out shoulder jumper and leather biker jacket. But I think I need to wear tights as it's still cold, so will probably wear black Stan's. Not sure if it's versatile enough for the whole day!

Have great weekends everyone, may check in hungover tomorrow.

shopafrolic · 30/04/2016 08:53

Sounds fab Stokey have fun
DMs 80th birthday today - popping round there later with gifts and then taking her for dinner tonight. If I'm brave enough in this weather I'll wear this HL dress but more likely leather skinnies, J Crew metallic silver tee and my HL blazer.
Dream definitely good call on sending the Petty's back - I can second Bernice's recommendation of Hudsons - love them.
Off to do a huge healthy food shop today - DH's new diet regime starts tomorrow :)

VivaVegas · 30/04/2016 09:23

Gorgeous dress Shop I'd love that!
What's in your healthy shop then? I could do with some inspiration mainly for evening meals. I'm pretty good with breakfast and lunch but we're in a bit of a rut with evening meals, so new ideas welcome.

VivaVegas · 30/04/2016 09:39

On a bit of a roll this morning!
Just ordered this cobalt dress from Hush.
I have a similar one in black from last year and it was great on holiday and after with a denim jacket and trainers.

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 30/04/2016 11:46

Hi all Smile it's warm and not too muggy here in HK and we only had a few spots of rain. Been exploring today with our friends, and hit the tailors - a blazer for DH and a red and gold cheongsam for me - so excited, can't remember who suggested it but I love the idea!

In the bar atm, then going to chill in the pool as I think we have a late night planned...!

shop I wore my stans all day today and they were super comfy and not squeaky! Yes, they're the same ones. Glad your DF and DH are doing better Smile

maradesbois · 30/04/2016 12:30

Hello,

Just popping in to say have pm'd all the mu attendees and maybes with details for 14th May. Think I got everyone and the names right but pm me if you haven't received.

Will catch up with thread later, enjoy your night Blair, glad no squeaks! Off out now for my girls' day, handed in the bastard assignment yesterday with less than 5 mins to spare but its a weight off my back!

Shop, random food idea for dh, an Italian friend makes avocado pesto with just avo, basil and lemon juice, is yum on grilled chicken with a big green salad, no need for any other dressing.

maradesbois · 30/04/2016 12:31

Shop

LinusLovesBretons · 30/04/2016 14:46

I just adore this dress but I'm afraid it would make me look like I was wearing my nightie instead of making me look like Elizabeth Bennet. Hmm

Love that cobalt dress viva

Have fun today shop and enjoy spoiling your DM.

Very Envy blair, reminds me of our holidays pre-DC.

Drywhitethanks · 30/04/2016 15:26

Linus I think that's a difficult dress to pull off.

Out for dinner tonight am taking rhubarb vodka Hmm .....why do I always have such dificulty choosing what to wear?
I always think of what Lara said about being true to your style.
There are things I feel very me in tailored clothes, fitted dresses, heels, heels, heels etc and things I feel I "should" wear jeans, skinnies, less structured clothes that look fab on others and way cooler but when I try those they always feel wrong. That look is more daytime for me.
So I try on loads. Discount dresses and pencil skirts because they're "boring" and end up wearing black Skinnies, black slouchy top and incredible shoes and feeling like a sack of potatoes wearing great shoes.

Rambling, I know, does anyone else have this?

QueenC · 30/04/2016 16:21

dry you look fab in pencil skirts. They're not boring especially with fab shoes. And you definitely need fitted rather than wafty. The friend I went out with last night always looks fab-more on trend than me and pulls off the expensive look. I knew she was wearing a leather skirt and would look fab and I panicked a bit about wearing a denim dress and my Mary Janes. But the outfit was totally me and I would have looked ridiculous in hers and vice versa.

Having a bit of a tidy up/clear out and thinking of selling the grey dune sandals with jewelled heels that I bought last year. Love them but can't think of an occasion where I will wear them them this summer. The parties I have I'll be wearing my dresses and black sandals.

blair glad you arrived safely. Have a fab time. I do hope you make the mu,
shop if I need to wear boots to mu I will wear the boyfriend jeans but really really hoping to wear the new silver shoes. C'mon sunshine.

shopafrolic · 30/04/2016 16:53

Thanks for the tip Mara - noted
Viva DH is doing an elimination diet so a month of no wheat, dairy, caffeine or alcohol. He is rubbish at eating veg etc so this is going to be hard work for him. We spent an hour in Waitrose finding various ingredients and then he wandered off at the till to get a 3 pack of Snickers Hmm
Dry wear what you look amazing in and fee most you in - fitted dresses and heels. I am probably your opposite in that I think I should probably wear them more but know that actually I look and feel more me in skinnies, blazer and heels. Have a lovely evening.
DM was pleased with her small gifts - a pretty pen, a gorgeous notebook with her initials laser cut into the cover and some gold embellished thank you cards. We have paid for champagne on the table tonight and I have written her an IOU for afternoon tea at our local fancy hotel. She seemed really touched. Looking forward to dinner.
DS wanted everyone to play football in the garden with him so we got DF outside seated on a chair and he managed to join in a little which made him smile.

shopafrolic · 30/04/2016 16:54

Gah!!!! Blair sorry to have bought the same Stans as you but yay for no squeaks. Have a wonderful trip.
