Mrs C - It was a struggle! There was a perfumery up the road that sold Serge Lutens and Juliette Has A Gun, too!

Has anyone tried Mary Greenwell's "Cherry"? Also £20 in the Fragrance Shop...

MrsSchadenfreude · 17/05/2016 23:15

And my doctor was virtually next door to the Etat Libre d'Orange flagship shop!

MsBojangles · 18/05/2016 11:31

SOTD Houbigant Orangers en Fleurs. Holy shit this is beautiful, my nose has barely moved from my arm since the postman arrived. Reviews say it's almost identical to Serge Lutens Fleurs d'Oranger, has anybody tried both?

cressetmama · 18/05/2016 13:29

Scored a sample of the new Hermes cologne Eau de rhubarbe ecarlate in HoF yesterday (in exchange for buying raffle tickets!) having read Bois de Jasmin's recent five-star review. And perfumistas, it is lovely. Very sharp upfront, with a softly musky end game. Not certain that it merits an FB, unless it's in a duty free shop with no other delights on offer but apparently in the US, they are selling coffrets of 4 x 15ml sizes; that would get me waving the credit card. However, the Neroli Dore which was launched at the same time is fairly dull IMO and probably not worth the £75 price when compared with the Mary Greenwell Lemon (this view based on your reports as I haven't seen a tester of that yet).

I share the open-mouthed astonishment at MrsS' Paris office location, and can only think that your powers of self-restraint must be super-human.

MrsCocoa · 18/05/2016 19:50

MrsS - have tried Cherry a couple of times. I should say up front that i rarely like fruit fragrances, but I quite like this. It opens with sweetie-style cherry (with berries), but develops into something more musky and woody (patchouli for depth?).

If it came in the handbag spray I'd buy it - not sure about FB though....

Lemon follows a similar path, starts of relatively one dimensional but becomes more complex and interesting with time.

MsBojangles · 19/05/2016 16:01

Back to basics today with, Sexiest Scent on the Planet. I'd forgotten how fluffy and cosy this one was - it's simple but a perfect snuggler for today's grizzle.

cressetmama · 19/05/2016 16:25

Grey here, too, and similar thinking. Bvlgari Eau de The Bleu, plus a touch of Flora Psychedelica for added je ne sais quoi. It is a pleasing combination. The new 4160 Tuesdays are good for layering.

FrustratedFrugal · 19/05/2016 18:01

I'm really repetitive these days - another day with Sacrebleu.

Thanks for the tip re Bois de Jasmin on rhubarb - I really enjoyed it. I love rhubarb perfumes - on my top shel right now, In Love Again and Aedes de Venustas. I also own CdG's Rhubarb Sherbet and a sample of Flashback. I may have a problem Wink

cressetmama · 19/05/2016 20:28

Rhubarb is good for the system Frugal, probably any system. Raw oxalic would clean drains!

This afternoon's inspiration has died quietly, but was okay while it lasted.

CointreauVersial · 19/05/2016 22:53

I've joined the Fire club, and bought a bottle - not only was it on sale, but I also had a 15% off voucher. Rude not to.

It's nice....spicy, woody, and easy to wear.....but I don't adore it, and it was pretty much gone by lunchtime. I will persist....

I'm very tempted by the descriptions of Aedes de Venustas, and have added it to my "would like to try" list. I do love Flashback.

I have bought another Perfume Society Discovery Box, which arrived today. Always a fantastic selection.

cressetmama · 20/05/2016 10:18

Dzing! Good for dog walking and practical days, including getting new tyres!

MsBojangles · 20/05/2016 14:24

Debaser by DS and Durga. Green, the greenist of green things...figs and green. It's spectacular!

cressetmama · 20/05/2016 14:36

Want to sniff your wrist, MsBoJ!

YetAnotherNC · 20/05/2016 14:55

SOTD, for setting up ArtWeeks exhibition, YSL Rive Gauche. Wow, boom that's strong. V nice though. I love getting wafts of scents and feeling like I'm a fragrant cloud...!

teta · 20/05/2016 15:26

E Coudray's Musc et Freesia today.I also wore it yesterday and it bloomed and lasted well after the brilliant ephemeral Freesia opening.Today it's cold here and I can barely smell anything.
Love the sound of Debaser ( and the name) and am rather tempted by one of the Perfume Discovery boxes but shall desist.I have more than enough bottles to be getting on with.

MsBojangles · 20/05/2016 16:13

Want to sniff your wrist, MsBoJ!

It's like the initial greenness of Premier Figuier but greener. It's powerful stuff, 2 tiny dabs have been plenty today and it's still going strong, bit rounder now but lasting incredibly. Good job I'm on a no-buy or I'd be furiously googling the cheapest bottle I could find...Blush

kittykarate · 20/05/2016 17:05

SOTD: 4160 Tuesdays mrs gloss made me do it

Has a wonderful list of ingredients, but it's pink rose and strawberry hubba bubba on me. Mostly inoffensive for the office environment though.

MsBojangles · 20/05/2016 17:23

It's not my favourite either, kitty, it's pleasant enough but a bit 'girls night out'.

Yet, I loved the ads for Rive Gauche, so stylish, especially this one - I wanted to be her when I grew up...still do Grin

cressetmama · 20/05/2016 17:53

Rive Gauche always reminds me of my sister who wore it for years, and that packaging is still fabulous. True chic endures. I've always been a Y girl myself. Luca Turin (IIRC) described Y as a "T shirt" fragrance, and rather brave for a first fragrance back in the days of le smoking and le safari jacket.

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 20/05/2016 18:16

I am never without a full bottle of Rive Gauche as you may have suspected from my tastes.
I remember the first bottle...I was living in Spain and in the April 1986 (because I am that old!) edition of Cosmo, which I had with me, there was one of those strips with the very first Obsesion ad (csn't remember if it was the threesome one or the one with the bloke kissing the woman's stomach- whose eroticism was ruined forever when my flatmate said perhaps he's a dwarf and that's the only bit of her he can reach! ) I traipsed around the town trying to find Obsession but kept getting blank looks and in the biggest perfumery in town, the woman kept thrusting Spanish brands at me, Tabu I imagine, and saying 'Espanish Espanish' I told her I wanted 'not Espanish' and the only one she had was Rive Gauche.

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 20/05/2016 18:17

Joanna Lumley only ever wears RG I remember reading.

YetAnotherNC · 21/05/2016 09:02

Have had a Rive Gauche sleepover. It's still lovely.

MrsBJ I'd love to be that elegant, but I fear im more likely to have got paint on that suit and a pencil holding my hair up!

Cresset the packaging is fabulous isn't it. That blue is one of my favourite colours. And I think the scent goes so well with the metal, wouldn't be the same out of glass, it might not have that initial bite.

MsBojangles · 21/05/2016 13:13

Seville a L'Aube, I'd adore it without the lavender Sad

teta · 21/05/2016 13:32

Songes EDP is Sotd today. Its a bit heady for a warmer day although my 11 year old DS told me I smelt nice and sort of Nutty Smile
Rive Gauche was my Scent when I was a teenager. My sister and I used to go to the local youth club smelling powerfully of this, in our M&S black velvet trews.I remember the excitement when I first glimpsed the shiny metallic tubes in our Christmas stocking.

MrsSchadenfreude · 21/05/2016 14:23

SOTD DKNY Woman. Love it. First bought it in New York on a shopping frenzy weekend, staying with my friend who worked at the UN. One sniff and I am back in Bloomingdales. I think this is my signature scent, it's the one I always come back to.
