Ambroxide minis of vintage Miss Dior are not hard to find - I saw some on ebay.de when I was stalking vintage Diors.

Ambroxide · 14/05/2016 23:44

Thanks for eBay Miss Dior tips, all. I will look out for a larger quantity! I really like it a lot. It's a good compromise between my love of the big hitters and my usual summer fare of green figgy stuff. It reminds me a little of Ma Griffe which is a big love of mine.

Those who would like a bit of Fire, please do send me your addresses and I will be happy to post. Ireland totally fine. However, be warned that I am rarely at the post office and it might take me a week or two to post! I'll try and remember to tell you when I have made it there (I live in London but all the nearby available post offices are in really annoying places that I don't often get to).

Hello, waitingforgodot. I think I smelt Angelique some time back and was ambivalent about it so might not be the best person to advise. I felt similarly about Black March so that might be one to look at. Also Pentachord Verdant. If you like green, a big favourite of mine is Sisley's Eau de Campagne. Also Premier Figuier.

MrsCocoa · 15/05/2016 20:11

Waiting - I put Bigarade concentree into Michael Edward's Fragrance Finder, and it suggests:

Miss Dior (topical!);
Si;
Yvresse, and
O de Lancome.

Failing that, head down to The Fragrance Shop and try the Mary Greenwell's. Lemon is a bit like O de Lancome.

MrsSchadenfreude · 15/05/2016 21:24

SOTD Mary Greenwell Lemon. Love it. Quite a grown up citrus. Reminds me of something, but I can't think what.

My go-to perfume for summer was always one from M & S - Fleur d'Orangier by La Maison de Senteurs. Unfortunately they no longer do it, although you can get the soap, shower gel etc. Any ideas of anything similar to try? I had Fragonard's Fleur d'Orangier and it didn't compare.

MsBojangles · 15/05/2016 21:55

We were talking about orange blossom scents a bit ago - Jo Malone, L'artisan Parfumeur - Seville A L'aube and Houbigant - Oranges en Fleurs, all got a mention.

SOTD Fire again, makes me feel like a capable grown up Shock

MsBojangles · 15/05/2016 23:46

The editor of British Vogue wears YSL Cinema, apparently. I love it too but assumed that the 'trendies' would be snooty and deem it rather pedestrian. Bet she's got a secret stash of BG too for holidays Wink

teta · 16/05/2016 08:36

Penhaligon's Orange Blossom is also lovely as is California Reverie by Van Cleef and Arpels. Its Neroli,Mandarin,Frangipani and Jasmin. Its very uplifting and beautiful but you have to spray a lot to ensure it lasts.
Mary Greenwell's Lemon today as Dh is away.I really don't like Fire.I have a redundant bottle here.I can appreciate its well made and if you enjoy the spicy Serge Lutens, you will love this. But it's too heavy for me

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 16/05/2016 09:30

I want to try the Mary Greenwell's Fire since i've heard you all saying how lovely it is, i'll have ot look out for it next time im out and about shopping. there's not a lot of choice here for perfumes tbh, it's all the same fruity bubblegum florals in every shop apart from maybe boots and debenhams which have basic chanel and dior ranges. theres no exclusives or limited editions ever though, i guess they just wouldn't sell here as it's an affluent town at all

Ambroxide · 16/05/2016 10:42

Teta, that's interesting. I do love the spicy Serge Lutens type of perfume, but Fire feels kind of insubstantial to me. It's not heavy enough!

OneNightTime, I would be happy to send you a sample of Fire if you want? Please do PM me if you'd like a bit.

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 16/05/2016 11:18

I meant it's NOT an affluent town here, missed a word out but im sure you all got the gist!

A sample would be fab if you are sure you don't mind ambroxide I'll drop you a pm when I get a second Thanks

MsBojangles · 16/05/2016 16:18

SOTD: Portrait of a Lady. It's beautiful, of course, but not really 'me' iykwim. My bank account is most relieved Wink

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 16/05/2016 20:48

Sotd: vintage Eau de Gucci.
It's a lot sweeter than I remembered it being.

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 16/05/2016 20:52

SOTA has been sjp Lovely. smells much more expensive than it actually it is. Surprisingly not fruity for a celeb fragrance. I was given a big bottle for xmas so im glad i actually like it as i hate wasting perfumes. My sisters have often done well out of my dislikes!

Ambroxide · 16/05/2016 23:47

SOTD more Miss Dior. I've set up an eBay alert.

OneNightTime, no problem at all! I like passing perfumes on to people who might find them interesting.

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 17/05/2016 00:06

i'm really only a baby perfumista but I think i'm getting more discerning! It can be difficult being stuck in a rubbish town that hasnt got easy access to more niches brands and since my neighbour likes to make off with my post when he's punishing me (a long long story!) i'm wary of forking out a lot of money for samples i might not get or might not get in good time!

Ambroxide · 17/05/2016 00:10

Well, I am rubbish at getting to the post office so don't get too excited! But I will send you a sample in the next couple of weeks if you send me your address.

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 17/05/2016 06:04

Have you all seen the Poison-haters thread? Grin

Those threads always make me smile because I generally love every single perfume that they claim "makes me boak".

I have ebay alerts set up for vintage everything as well as "half bottles" on ebay.co.uk, ebay.it and ebay.de. Ebay.it is often a good one as Italians are still quite wary of ebay so there often isn't much competition for bidding.

Frugal- I meant to ask you- how did you get on with your Lithuanian seller? Was it genuine? As you remember, the jury was out with me as I couldn't decide if what I bought was fake or had just gone off. I'm a bit hmmm about the sheer quantity of stuff being sold. Maybe however it is a perfume hidden treasure and we have hit the jackpot!

MsBojangles · 17/05/2016 15:18

I did chuckle at the Poison thread, Tendre Poison was my first 'proper' perfume, bought it Paris for extra swank. I found a bottle of the 90s original version on eBay and it took me right back, sadly it doesn't suit my skin any more but I do enjoy a quick bottle sniff every now and again.

Threads like that do make me wonder if other people are secretly wreteching behind my back Hmm

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 17/05/2016 15:25

Yes, me too! Though I silently stick 2 fingers down my throat when I smell any of the ubiquitous pink fruity ones. A woman walked past me at lunchtime and I almost shouted "euwwwwww go and have a wash"

Musing on our Miss Dior conversations- I guess Miss Dior original is Dior's signature perfume as it were, and obviously n 5 is Chanel's. What would everyone say the other houses' are? Givenchy? Guerlain? (I am wearing Givenchy III again today and it has something of the Miss Diors about it, smooth, grown up, classy- I feel I even walk differently when I wear it!)

MsBojangles · 17/05/2016 16:43

I investigated Givenchy lll after reading your posts but dismissed it as a bit too ladylike, too Chanel no5ish but vintage Miss Dior is my go to, dare I say signature scent...

I've sold a couple of bits on eBay so may be able to justify a new bottle of something...

FrustratedFrugal · 17/05/2016 17:22

SOTD Une Rose for the early part of the day, AA Nerolia Bianca for an afternoon boost.

wiltingfast · 17/05/2016 17:40

My own "signature scent" back in the day was Dune Grin Wore it for years. Must go back for a sniff to see what I think now.

SOTD here is more ma griffe v fond of this. Feel ladylike, elegant but commanding Grin

MrsSchadenfreude · 17/05/2016 19:02

When I lived in Paris, the first office I worked in was sandwiched between Annick Goutal and Editions de Parfum Frederic Malle...

SOTD Encre Noir. Love this. The cat is quite keen on it too. DH less so.

IdentityRequest1 · 17/05/2016 19:20

Today, Narciso Rodriguez musc oil. I love it!
Looking for something more summery...

MrsCocoa · 17/05/2016 20:51

Crikey MrsS - did you need to get colleagues to impound your credit cards at lunchtime?
