Let's go!

You persuaded me to try the apples and pears despite not being very keen on sweet and sour combos. Kitty is right: the chutney goes very quickly - now I get quite a classic and harmonious chord of light dry wood and distant ripe orchard fruit. Don't know if it's ISO E Super, aldehydes or something else, but it's open, cool and sparkly (quite elegant and quite synthetic).

Looks like this thread has been the source of quite a chunk of the 'crowd'?

Perhaps we should revisit the suggestion in the last thread that we commission something as a group (could we agree a brief...?)?

MissBattleaxe · 05/05/2016 21:46

SOTD Annick Goutal Rose PomPom. As delightful as its name!

MsBojangles · 05/05/2016 21:51

Glad you made it back in one piece, cress!

I shall have to give Apples and Pears a road test tomorrow, although I've a hairdressers appointment in the afternoon so hydrogen peroxide will be the overwhelming note of the day. The set will really come into it's own in autumn/winter I suspect.

kittykarate · 06/05/2016 10:08

SOTD - 4160 Tuesdays Buddhawood Box

First spray and it's very aggressive, but it quickly dries down to a warm spicy wood smell. Not loud, but definitely still able to pick it out. Such an autumnal scent for me, I can picture it unwinding with a scarf.

MissBattleaxe · 06/05/2016 10:49

I've tried all four mysteries now and my favaourite is Buddhawood. I wasn't keen on Apples and Pears. Caught by Candlelight was good though- very cosy.

MsBojangles · 06/05/2016 18:25

1.Candlelight

  1. Flora Psychedelia
  2. Buddawood
  3. Apples

Happy overall and would definitely take part in the next crowd funding event.

MrsCocoa · 06/05/2016 20:12

Does Candlelight last on you guys? Opens beautifully - makes me think of SL Arabie, but moves quite quickly to a powdery/anise skin scent (also lovely, but barely there on me).

MsBojangles · 06/05/2016 20:47

I didn't find any of them lasted particularly well, found myself reaching for a refresher spritz often.

Does that fact that they're 'freshly brewed' have any bearing on that I wonder?

cressetmama · 06/05/2016 21:04

I have worn Apples and Pears today all day, from 10.00, and can still catch a pleasant whiff when I sniff. It's never going to be a must because it's a bit bland. I do like Buddawood Box, and even more on the second or third try, and I am looking forward to another evening test of Candlelight, which was the stand out scent from the batch on the first go round. Flora Psychedelica remains an unknown quantity, but I liked the first sniff.

I don't think any of this lot are the love of my life, but would definitely be up for a share in our juice and to crowd fund a future venture on the 4 x 9ml basis.

Could a really good green chypre, with some lasting power and a bit of oomph, be considered?

MrsCocoa · 06/05/2016 22:05

Cresset - an aromatic green? Count me in!

MsBJ - guessing Sarah would have left them to macerate for a couple of weeks before posting?

MsBojangles · 06/05/2016 22:13

They did come much quicker than expected, weren't they meant to be sent out in June? I don't suppose it makes much difference either way.

Aromatic green sounds good to me too, newbie that I am Smile

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 07/05/2016 06:42

Green with oomph sounds good to me too. Though am in furrinland and 4160 don't ship furrin yet.

I have been awol surrounded by hysterical pre-exam teens but being soothed this week generally by Givenchy III. It's so calm and grown up it brings me over all zen like.

MrsSchadenfreude · 07/05/2016 09:31

Where can you buy the 4160 Tuesdays perfume? I thought they said Fortnums were stocking it - I couldn't find it in there and asked, and they'd never heard of it!

This thread is very bad for my bank balance - I have ordered both Lemon and Fire. That's following my FB of Feu Follet...

SOTD is Lyn Harris's Eau de Cologne that she did for M & S. I had the sense to buy a couple of bottles before it disappeared.

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 07/05/2016 10:09

SOTD is 4160 Tuesdays Sunshine and Pancakes. thsi seems to last so so long on my skin, i put it on at around 10am yesterday morning and could still get faint whiffs at gone 11pm. Wearing it again today as I surprised myself by how much i liked it yesterday when i was never fussed by it before

i get lots of citrus at first followed by something woody that's smoothed out with vanilla and honey, it's not quite fresh but not quite musky either, it's somewhere between the two

MrsSchadenfreude · 07/05/2016 10:18

Fire and Lemon have arrived. Lemon is more me, I think, but Fire (which reminds me of a Faberge body spray that I used to have in my teens, called Tigress!) is more of a winter perfume.

The cat has disdained the Lemon but Fire has turned him into raptures - mad licking and little growly noises. HmmConfusedGrin

MrsCocoa · 07/05/2016 10:18

Hi Mrs S - does the Lyn Harris Cologne smell of warm elastoplast to you (in a nice way)? What is that note?

MrsSchadenfreude · 07/05/2016 10:27

The fabric elastoplast? Yes!! And it's the note that lingers too! A sightly medical, sunshiney, cottony smell!

MsBojangles · 07/05/2016 11:48

I almost want to get a cat after reading that!

My dog prefers me 'fresh' out of the garden and covered in muck, the cleaner and sweeter I smell the less cuddles he offers.

MsBojangles · 07/05/2016 12:00

Buy direct from their website MrsS 4160, although the ones we've been yammering on about were a crowd funded project, probably available later in the year.

Fortnums did stock one, I think it was Centrepiece but don't quote me on that.

MissBattleaxe · 07/05/2016 14:29

You can still get involved with the crowd funding. It costs as much as you wish to contribute and you get a perk for every amount. I'll find the link.

In the meantime, Luca Turin wrote THIS about 4160 Tuesdays and Sarah McCartney is a very happy bunny today.

MissBattleaxe · 07/05/2016 14:35

Here it is: Crowdfunding for Four Mysteries www.indiegogo.com/projects/the-mystery-of-the-materials-four-scented-stories#/

CointreauVersial · 07/05/2016 19:36

I think I have a bottle of the Lyn Harris Cologne, but I may have given it to DH.

Onetime - Sunshine & Pancakes is one of my favourite 4160s.

I had a little squirt of Fire today while I was shopping. Nice....definitely wintery, but didn't last very long on me. I also grabbed a tester in Body Shop while I was standing around waiting for DD2, and was pleasantly surprised - it was Shea EdT. It smelled a bit like a sweeter, less spicy Spicebomb.

cressetmama · 07/05/2016 20:24

SoTD was the 4160 Tuesday Apples and Pears, and so far there's no reason to quibble with my first reaction; it's pleasant but goes bland fairly quickly. This afternoon, I put a squirt of JHaG Gentlewoman on top to refresh it, and the neroli and almond brought it up very flatteringly.

So if you have both, they layer well (for me anyway) and the combination extends a sparkle and makes the base last well. It stays close but present, a bit more weighty than a citrus eau, but just as pretty and fresh.

So sad the M&S Miller link up was short lived. I bought the heaviest of the men's colognes and we still have nearly a FB, mostly unloved.

Thanks for the link to the LT review, Battleaxe; as you say, 4160 must have been over the moon!

FrustratedFrugal · 08/05/2016 10:17

Very happy for Sarah McCartney, she deserves the praise!

I've repeat worn Sacrebleu Intense for almost a week now. I love the burst of tuberose / methyl anhtranilate in the opening, the rest is pleasant but fairly forgettable.

MsBojangles · 08/05/2016 11:44

I'm eyeing my new sample of Portrait of a Lady but it deserves a more auspicious outing than a Sunday dog walk.
