Yet - did you get the Truth or Dare? And has the Fracas arrived? Anything to report?

FrustratedFrugal · 10/04/2016 20:41

And the weirdest flanker award goes to Poison Girl

I've almost used up my sample of Diorissimo. Have really enjoyed wearing it, tonight, wearing the last drop in my Pear+Olive vial.

cressetmama · 11/04/2016 09:34

Thanks Frugal! Have just downloaded it, apparently for the second time. Book me in for the memory clinic, alongside DMiL...

MsBojangles · 11/04/2016 19:32

SOTD: Vintage Miss Dior. I always forget how quietly sexy this is when it's been warmed by the skin, perhaps sensual is a better word. Hope the dog appreciates it Grin

I caved and bought Bronze Goddess after having a couple of samples...it's one that I didn't want to love because it's so common, in more ways than one Blush

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 12/04/2016 06:24

What does BG actually smell like Ms? My friend (on the back of me PMing her about it, having read about it on here Grin) got some and loves it. It just sounds so dreadful!

I am going to wear Yardley Jade today. I absolutely love it, and for £7 what's not to like! Not very long-lasting, but I am only at work until 2 today, unlike 6 yesterday when one squirt of Seville a' l;Aube lasted all day. (I do like it, but think it could be toned down slightly, orange IMO, shouldn't be quite that in your face)

One of my 18 yr old students had Miss Dior on yesterday I noticed, and like my students who listen to Bob Dylan and Pink Floyd, I can only assume she'd been at her mum's smelly box!

Speaking of Yardley, are there any other cheap as chips recommendations? I keep meaning to grab a bottle of L'Aimant, but any more?

teta · 12/04/2016 09:05

Jo Malone's Wild Bluebell today in honour of the bluebells that are just starting to open - early in my garden.I was very fragrant for my trudge round a muddy sheep farm dropping dd1 off for her work experience in the middle of nowhere.
I vote for Yves Rocheur for cheap smells.I love the Iilac and Lily shower gels, lotions and perfumes. And they're always on offer.

MsBojangles · 12/04/2016 11:45

It is dreadful but wonderfully so! It's the perfume equivalent of a sliced white loaf, cheap but so so satisfying occasionally Grin

Probably helps that I'm an absolute coconut fiend, although BG is only really coconut heavy at the first blast, after that it settles into something more nondescript and air freshnerish - 'exotic' white flowers and soap. It's the coconut that keeps me spraying...that makes me sound like a Tomcat but you know what I mean, I hope!

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 13/04/2016 00:47

i blind bought Belle D'Opium and i really like it. it's quite sharp in the opening but settles into something dirty, musky and sharply white floral quite quickly. the opening is a little sour maybe but it doesn't last long, gone within 10 minutes, so im not put off by it. i think dp will like it actually, he seems to like that sort of scent on me, he says its very me and i am a bit of a white floral fiend.

my cheap as chips recommendation is the Marks and Spencers Florentyna range, especially the white flowers. very big and bold and cheap as anything. theres three in the range, the orignal florentyna, the white flowers and a midnight floral which is a little darker,a little deeper.

YetAnotherNC · 13/04/2016 07:20

MrsCocoa the Truth or Dare did arrive. Truly dreadfully tacky bottle, but the fragrance IS very close to Fracas. The Fracas still hasn't arrived, and since I've used the last of my sample I can't compare alongside each other. But from memory, the TorD is just a bit sweeter and a bit thinner, not as creamy and rounded as Fracas, but it's a damn good dupe and I'll wear it happily. Perhaps I could decant it as the bottle makes me wince every time I use it (seems I am a bottle snob)!! MsBojangles I have the same sort of "cheap white loaf" reaction to this as you do to BG!

I think i will still want to keep the much more expensive Fracas, even though I should perhaps eBay it - can I justify keeping two so similar fragrances?

I also finally got a full bottle of Loewe Gala (it travelled from Spain) and I'm still completely in love with this warm elegant oriental, plummy carnation, labdanum, animalic! Yummy but powerful, so I have to be careful not to just spray it willy nilly....

cressetmama · 13/04/2016 10:02

Today's scent delivers the alternative to spraying with caution. Prada Eau Ambree is so fleeting on me that I can't smell it at all 60 minutes after spraying it lavishly. Does it last on anyone? Am I partly anosmic to it?

MsBojangles · 13/04/2016 12:18

The sun is out so it had to be a floral...SOTD: Annick Goutal, La Violette.

I want to see exactly how tacky we're talking, Yet Grin

Feawen · 13/04/2016 22:02

Sotd death and decay from Lush. Something interesting for the perfumista on a budget. I have the solid perfume and I've enjoyed dabbing a little on my wrist every few hours - it doesn't last long or have great sillage (though apparently the liquid version is a bit penetrating!)

MrsCocoa · 13/04/2016 22:08

Wow - Gala gets some rave reviews on Fragrantica, Yet. You could always sell some, but not all, of your Fracas?

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 14/04/2016 08:40

Picked up a teensy sample (2ml) of Coromandel on ebay yesterday. I know it's not Coromandel season, but it would have been churlish not to...until I can justify a full bottle!

I am also wondering which of the Givenchy III and Miss Dior bottles (original and looking a bit battered both, therefore I presume genuine) have my name on.....decisions decisions......

SoTD good old Paris. It always seems so "full" somehow compared to other rose perfumes. Hard to explain, but other rose-based ones bore me after a while. Paris never. It's my old 80s in your face thing again I suppose!

cressetmama · 14/04/2016 11:22

Reading Luca Turin DuftNotes on Frugal's recommendation. It is sooooo good, and tempting to read just another, then another. Like eating lovely chocolates (Pierre Marcolini please!).

SoTD is Y, which pleases me every time. It has been reformulated but somehow managed to survive, mostly intact.

MsBojangles · 14/04/2016 11:48

Was so intrigued by Gala's reviews that I just had to buy a cute little 5ml bottle on eBay. There's a couple left if anyone else is interested.

SOTD: Tart's Knicker Drawer Smile

FrustratedFrugal · 14/04/2016 17:21

Yep the Turin essays really are fab - he's such a great writer. And I love the box of chocolates analogy. DH used to go to Brussels a lot and he's never without a box of Neuhaus pralines.

I thought I had used up my Slumberhouse sample of Pear+Olive. I get a really overripe juicy pear and the mouthwateringly salty grassy olives but DH says it smells like fresh dill Confused

FrustratedFrugal · 14/04/2016 17:24

Cresset I smelled nada when I tried Prada's L'eau Ambrée. My friend's boyfriend cannot smell it either.

FrustratedFrugal · 14/04/2016 17:28

Perfume bottles from hell - Nicki Minaj's Pink Friday and Minajesty

Arrrrrrgh, my eyes!

MsBojangles · 14/04/2016 20:02

Lol @ Minajesty!

Wonder what they smell like...

MrsCocoa · 14/04/2016 23:21

Quick question: I have received some vouchers and am limbering up for a full bottle purchase. Think this might need to be a big warm smoky amber or frankincense - currently toying with Ambre Sultan or Sahara Noir (have found some!).. What would you choose for?

FrustratedFrugal · 15/04/2016 06:00

There have been rumors that SN has been discontinued. If you find it, grab some! But read Victoria'review first, it is a strong incense.

YetAnotherNC · 15/04/2016 07:08

I will try and take a picture and post it of the lurrrvely Truth or Dare bottle. It's tacky, but can't compete with Nicky Minaj's monstrosities! OMG they're repulsive!

MrsBojangles that's how I discovered Gala, those 5ml bottles are dangerous, partly because they're so cute. I am interested to know what you think of it.

MrsCocoa that's a good idea, I may see if I can find anyone interested in splitting the bottle, or sell some on EBay. I also have a very nearly full bottle of Sahara Noir which I think I'm going to split as I don't use it enough.

cressetmama · 15/04/2016 10:05

Blush I may have collared the last Gala 5ml off Ebay MrsBJ and YetAnother.

Next, I must choose a SoTD to walk the dog and visit a possible residential home for DMiL who, very sadly, is not coping well on her own any more, and who is six hours drive away. On a grey showery day, it has to be all about comfort, right?

Grin at those bottles; my eyes bleed.
